Overall story feels a bit like a first draft but had some fun moments. Main lady and katie's bf were good, but some of the other acting was spotty. Some plot points were way too stereotypical . Like, a woman in her 50s doesn't know about menopause?? You'd expect that coming from male creators, but apparently women wrote this. I guess that was just the easiest way to tie things up (not a surprise given the entire plot is based on a 50 year old movie. They weren't trying to reinvent the wheel here). Also take issue with the happy ending which is so unrealistic. The daughter should cut ties with her mom or intervene because she's clearly mentally ill and needs help. Anyway, iff you watch this and want to stop it after an hour, you won't be alone. Way too long.

Far from funny, and a total suspension of reality is necessary in order to like this mess.
Now I find it hard to fathom Nancy lowering her standards to pig sty level, which is where she would need to go with that bum her daughter drug home.
So that aspect of this comedy that I abandoned after 25 minutes of pure boredom and face palming disbelief as this bum was revealed for what it is and the mother still kissed him after hanging out one day. Instead of Katie's Mom, it should have been called Katie's THOT or That Ho Over There. Which is more appropriate for what I witnessed on TV.
Nope, definitely not something that I would recommend.

Dina Meyer stars in the 2023 comedy Katie;s Mom. I was interested in this film when it made some noise at various film festivals last year. I was wondering why it did not get distribution but I managed to see it this weekend on Tubi.
The movie has a sultry plot when a recently divorced mother has an affair with her daughter's boyfriend. They realize it's wrong, the daughter gets hurt but mom finds herself as she starts out on a new adventure around the world.
One problem, no one seems to really get hurt.
Ms. Meyer, in her mid-50s when she shot this project, still looks very pretty and has long since won the genetics lottery. Here, her character is living in the Southern California home that she obtained in her divorce from her ... wait for it... Plastic Surgeon ex-husband. It comes with an in-ground lap pool and wonderful views.
The publicity, for this movie, said it is like The Graduate, as told from Mrs. Robinson's point of view. If you recall that classic film, Director Mike Nicols kept the then 36 year old Anne Bancroft away from the daily rushes because she was being filmed to look so beat up that he feared seeing what was being done to her would soar her on the project. Alias, no such ugly stick beatings would work with Dina Meyer.
Therefore, I wish she had been poor. It would have been something to provide sympathy for her character's attempt at showing sorrow. Also, it would have distracted us from examining the plot's attempts to mimic An Unmarried Woman, Breakfast At Tiffany's and the aforementioned 1967 classic of the true mother/daughter house.

This movie really wasn't that bad. I actually watched until the end. This was more watchable than Anne Hathaway's "rom com" called The Idea of You. That movie was horrible in my opinion.
I dont know if I could forgive my mother for what she did. It's hard to imagine being attracted to my child's significant other but I'm sure it's happened more than once.
The movie really did not have to be as long as it was. But other than that if you have time on a Sunday afternoon it is a good time waster.
The brother was a bit odd and overly suspicious which was a little strange but I guess that's what brother do.
The ex-husband was a douche!!! Just saying.
All in all not a bad movie for Tubi standards...

Women over 40 are complex and sexy. These characters, their problems, feel very real. This movie is well worth your time -- fresh and original, yet a re-imagining: The Graduate was an important movie, and so is this one.
It's far more nuanced than an older woman-younger man story. What emerges is a story about self-knowledge and self-discovery.
It's valuable to see someone center a woman's perspective on screen, and it makes sense that a woman director did such a masterful job at it. Great production value, and, honestly -- a great run time. The film is incredibly well paced, which is a rarity.

There are a lot of reasons you might dislike the characters in Katie's Mom, but you end up incredibly charmed by all of them by the end.
I've seen this movie four times and I find more reasons to love it each time. All of the relationships are excellently layered and fleshed out in a way that makes you feel part of the family--which in this case is definitely complicated, hahaha!
The story really builds and moves, never lagging. It's obviously not your typical rom com, but it definitely scratches that itch with a subversive twist in this modern nod to The Graduate from Mrs. Robinson's perspective.

I absolutely loved this movie about a woman's sexual awakening after her divorce. All the acting was superb and there were many heart-warming and surprising moments. I laughed out loud more than a few times.
All the characters were well drawn with believable flaws that make them human and relatable. The script was punchy and fun and the directorial choices and cinematography were impressive, particularly for an independent film.
I'd highly recommend this film to anyone, but especially women seeking a sexy comedy told from a woman's point of view. It's the best of all the May/December movies that have come out in recent years.

A mom who has a fling with her daughter's boyfriend sounds like a terrible person, and how is this a comedy? I loved this film and watched it twice - it's very funny and turns surprisingly emotional when the mom and daughter must face the consequences. Some reviewers mentioned a happy ending - not quite. The great script and acting make you accept the mom's tryst as inevitable, you enjoy the seduction happening, and kind of root for it because the main character - Dina, the mom, is likable and clearly needs a shot of dopamine to get out of a funk. The boyfriend is charming in a good way - he wants everyone to be happy. This is a fresh Indie take on comedy-drama. Nothing feels formulaic. Some California references or culture might have been lost on me - but that's why I watch foreign films! I highly recommend this.

I recently watched this film on Tubi, and what a ride! Dina Meyer was perfectly cast in the role of a recently divorced loving mother finding herself in the riskiest manner possible. I didn't expect to find myself rooting for her, but because of the nuanced writing and spectacular performance, I was with her all the way. The whole cast was talented and they gelled like a real family. It was a delightful reinvention of a classic story from a perspective not always centered in cinema. It's rare to find a laugh out loud romantic comedy these days. I can't wait to see what's next from these filmmakers.

It's rare to find a movie this smart and funny. Hilarious, well written, zany and totally enjoyable. If you're looking for a comedy that's more interesting and complex than the politically correct options available now, you'll love this film. I'm glad I found it. It's sexy and outrageous and the writer doesn't shy away from a taboo subject and deals respectfully with the power and vulnerability of a woman on the brink of menopause when she realizes she is anything but invisible, in fact she's got it going on. This film is brilliant and the best I've seen in a long time, which is why I've taken the time to highly recommend it.

I started this not knowing what to expect but I can say I sure was surprised. Several of the scenes are very funny and I love the reactions of some of the actors.
I honestly like it a lot, it was a romantic comdeh that I actually found very funny and that is a rare find nowadays.
I found myself smiling and laughing and really enjoying the story.
It was different but thats what made it so enjoyable and why I loved it so much! Finally a romantic comedy that isn't copy and paste like all the others.
I loved all the spicy scenes!
Great overall and very funny! I would watch more of Tyrell Shaffner work.

Katie, Julia Tobin and her mom, Dina Meyer are both seduced during winter break, Chrismanukah, by rakish, heart throb, Aaron Dominguez. It is amazing to see this blended family being stretched to its limits, and yet, holding together.
I loved the gorgeous pool, atmospheric beach, ride down Rodeo Drive for a shopping spree . Katie's dive into the saccharine sweet chocolate fountain was devastating. Her retreat from her childhood house reminded me of The Graduate.
What can I say? America's blended family has so many pitfalls. Yet, a real family, needs to break apart as it stays together.
This very low budget Indy is so polished. The actors are as skilled as the sets are authentic. The sex scenes are absolutely hysterical. Between the passionate screams as a swinging light fixture, I laughed so hard I began to cry. I guess that was the point.
I can't wait to see what Meryl and Terrell do with their lives. Their first attempt was golden.

Since the unfortunate death of Nora Ephron we've seen a boatload of D+, not well written romcoms ultimately get glowing reviews just for allowing Anne Hathaway to look and act 24 at 40, and then calling her brave for dating... a 24 year-old. Katie's mom is much better written and it was a relief to see Dina Meyer being a truly beautiful middle aged woman embracing the perks that come with aging, and being appreciated for them by young men. It is an overall imperfect, but highly watchable film. One of the characters overdid it a bit at playing annoying to the point of not inspiring enough sympathy when she experiences long-overdue character growth at the end, and there were a couple trope moments it would have been stronger without.
