Gimai Seikatsu

(14+) Beautifully rendered and infused with a lot of heart, I think this series (although good) could have been so much better. The way the two protagonists begin to draw closer is not forced or rushed, it makes sense, but there are a couple of scenes that I didn't care for (or perhaps did not fully understand) which kind of dampened my enjoyment. I may have interpreted them wrong, but without those two missteps I would give this an easy "9". I would recommend, still, just not super enthusiastically.

Gimai seikatsu is a rather ambiguous 12-episode series, which contrasts with its English title 'Days with my Stepsister', worthy of a dubious Manhwa, but which had the advantage of arousing curiosity.

Not to be confused with Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta ('My Stepsister is My Ex-Girlfriend'), which also deals with a relationship between brother and sister in a blended family in a more dynamic, humorous and fan-service-oriented way.

What we have here is a very contemplative series, which underneath its mature psychological approach to relationships drags on and on.

It's too long at times, too talkative, and it's hard to get a grip on what's happening to the characters.

The narrative is intended to be philosophical and, once again, psychological, but it falls flat on its face when confronted with the emptiness of the subject matter. It's empty.

The characters have no personality whatsoever. They're just veggies!

The animation is rough despite two good early episodes, and the graphics become very inconsistent at times. The proportions of the characters are no longer respected, depending on the scene and the perspective.

The music is good, though, and the sets are pretty polished.

Episode 1 was so promising... Despite its few qualities, this is a rather 'empty' anime that shows clumsiness and laziness.

A series that will soon be forgotten.

I love this series very much. The way they communicate very matured, very open minded, not like typical rom-com anime. The character development and the slow burn romance is really really good. Whoever only enjoy with typical romcom anime will say this anime is not good, sleep, boring etc. They'll never understand how good is this anime. Its so hard to find anime like this nowadays. No words can describe how much i love this anime, easily my top 3 romance anime ever. I hope it getting season 2 idc how long i must wait. Ghost Mikawa, you really write a masterpiece. Shoutout to Studio Deen for making a really good animation.

I also read the manga and light novel of this work. I think it was an interesting work. I suggest that you add this work to the program and watch it. The attractive drama I saw in this work was interesting. I hope to make a second season. Thanks to the creators and great voice actors. I think this work should be seen more. The things I saw in this anime were things that were both attractive and sad in some way. This anime had good characterization and the characters expressed themselves well. The last thing I have to mention is that I hope the quality of the work will increase in the second season and this work has the right to be of high quality. When Yuuta Asamura's father remarries he gains a stepsister, Yuuta Asamura, who is slightly younger than him and is the prettiest girl in their school year. Early on the two decide that it is best to keep their distance from each other as they feel getting close could make things awkward for the family. Of course they can't totally avoid each other.

I thought this series was okay if not the most original. It is the sort of series that is fun enough while watching but you know that soon after it finishes you'll forget all about it. In fact writing this now I'm struggling to think of many details of the show! The characters designs and animation are decent enough. Overall I'd not say this was a must see; perhaps give it a try if you enjoy the genre. At least now one can watch the whole series rather than having to wait a week for the next episode.
