With a title like "Everyone's Going To Die' it's tempting to expect a sub-Guy Ritchie piece, but this film confounds your expectations right from the start. it's an (increasingly) rare example of an truly engaging film about people, and relationships and life. The two lead performances are fantastic and the chemistry between them makes you care what happens right from the start, and the script keeps their characters developing both plausibly and unpredictably. This film is laugh-out-loud funny, surprising and surreal, sad and moving in parts...yet always true. It looks beautiful, holds your attention all the way through and sends you away happier than when you went in. "In A World" of clichés, and film franchises, Everyone's Going To Die' is the best film I've seen in a very long time.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Everyone's Going to Die at first - the low-budget feel is noticeable in the beginning, but that quickly fades as the story pulls you in. What unfolds is a surprisingly brilliant, understated film with a strong emotional core.
The atmospheric music runs throughout and might irritate some viewers, but I actually found it added to the film's offbeat charm. It sets a mood that's both melancholic and strangely hopeful - much like the characters themselves.
I've watched it twice now, and the second viewing really deepened my appreciation. The performances are subtle but compelling, and the slow-burn pacing rewards patience. It's not flashy, but it lingers with you afterward - which to me, is the mark of a good film.
Definitely one of those quiet gems worth discovering.
