Were the worst movies that all of these stars ever made really released in the same year? According to this series of promos, it sure looks like it!
MGM would offer featurettes every so often with clips from its forthcoming season. Every ten years, starting with 1934, they would label it as an anniversary celebration, usually with one of their more distinguished (i.e. elderly) contract stars talking up their glorious past and even more glorious future.
This is a barebones one. Despite its glorious past, MGM was in decline. It was a decline in the entire film industry and would not bottom out until the next decade in financial terms. It would no longer be the dream factory, the leading studio in a town dedicated to the movie industry, but a set of assets to be priced and sold and valued at a low price until the rise of cable and home entertainment made old movies valuable again.
In the meantime, the titles offered are historically undistinguished, clips offered badly edited to an uneven quality and the presentation lackadaisical. We would not see its like again. Pity.
