At a presentation held by Studio Chizu on Dec. 23, 2024, Hosoda's next film was announced, alongside a first teaser visual and a release window of winter 2025. Emi Shinohara, the voice actor behind Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter in the '90s Sailor Moon anime series, has passed away at the age of 61.

Shinohara's death was announced by her talent agency, 81 Produce, on its official website, which stated that the voice actor had been undergoing treatment for an unspecified illness; however, the treatment proved ineffective, and Shinohara passed away on Sept. 8, 2024. She is survived by her husband, Hiroshi Watari, also a singer and voice actor.

Although Shinohara was best known for voicing the character Sailor Jupiter in the original Sailor Moon anime series and following movies up until 1997, she also voiced several other significant roles, including Kaho Mizuki in Cardcaptor Sakura (both the first series and the Clear Card reboot), Uzumaki Kushina in the Naruto Shippuden anime and video games, and Aoki Shizuko in Smile Precure!.

Now, the head of Studio Ghibli and producer of films such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and The Boy and the Heron, has weighed in on the critically acclaimed anime movie based on the one-shot story by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man.

According to Comic Natalie via Crunchyroll, Toshio Suzuki, the chairman and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, commented on the Look Back animated movie currently playing in Japan. Suzuki said, "For whom is the work for? The answer lies within the film." While intentionally vague, Suzuki is acknowledging the creator-driven spirit of the film, as Look Back follows two young girls on their journey to become manga artists. Of course, with this being the work of Fujimoto, things are never as straightforward as they may seem.

Osamu Tezuka's iconic surgical genius Black Jack is getting a brand-new stage show.

According to Comic Natalie via Anime News Network, the character's upcoming production, Black Jack Mangeki!! Osamu Tezuka Dai-5 Kan: The Fusion of Comics and Theater, is set to run for eight performances at the Human Art Theater in Tokyo next year. Akio Otsuka, who has voiced the character since 1993, will portray Black Jack alongside double-cast co-star Ippei Osako. The latter performer has appeared in several hit films and TV shows, including Shin Godzilla (2016) and Netflix's live-action Alice in Borderland series. Ryusei Kudo serves as both director and scriptwriter. The play -- the fifth entry in Osamu Tezuka's Mangeki! series -- will run from March 20-24, 2024.
