Very cute and entertaining but incorrect on facts. One example, the sea krait is venomous not poisonous as they say.

A wonderful programme that appeals to children of all ages - hell, even I enjoy watching it and that's saying something considering most children's programmes drive me insane. The episodes are informative without being boring, exciting without being frightening, and witty without being crude. The writing is intelligent, and doesn't resort to the easy and dull 'goodies vs baddies' scenario adopted by so many other cartoons. I even love the choice of voices (Scouse for the Walrus) & music (sitar for a very relaxed shark). To top it all, my 3 year old now has an encyclopedic knowledge of sea creatures that probably surpasses most adults' ...Afterall, did you know that Cookie Cutter Sharks eat their own teeth? No? Neither did I.

Excellent show combining fun cartoon, rich characters and sea facts. My son has given up all shows for Octonauts and now calls himself Peso! He assigns everyone a character as he sees people.

The best part is when he wants to have a conversation about the show. The other day he came to me and said, "Mom, let's discuss krill." My son is 3, so it is exciting to hear how it has expanded his vocabulary to algae and krill. Sea animals are no longer sharks and whales, but hammerhead sharks and orca whales.

Saying something interesting about children's programming requires a critical shift, acknowledging that we are not the primary consumer. Actually, for much of this media, I think parents are that target audience. Sesame Street cannot possibly be as educational as advertised, but great effort is obviously spent convincing parents that it is.

Well, here we have something that is educational in a narrow sense, but very well engineered for kids. Let's set aside the specification of the character set, the determination of the animation style, the jokes, the pace…

What impressed me is how the synthetic world is placed. Suppose that a goal of the project is to introduce kids to the marvels of living creatures and systems of living creatures. Choosing the oceans is almost a no-brainer because of the diversity and strangeness of the creatures, plus the fact that kids normally don't encounter sea creatures.

Much harder is deciding how to span our world with theirs. Look at what has been done here. The representative of our world is a band of anthropomorhized animals. We explore with them and also get educated by them, but the emphasis is on exploration and care of the explored. The octonauts are headed by a sea creature, an octopus that oddly breathes air not water and seems the most human of the band. The group also — and essentially, I believe — includes 'vegimals' a further hybrid that blends animals and plants. We (the humans in the audience) are blended, folded into our representatives, and they are folded into what they observe.

Now look at the other side of the divide: the sea creatures are themselves anthropomorphized, but to a subtle lesser extent. They speak English to the octonauts; they have the same emotional vocabulary as well. But they are apart, of nature.

I cannot think of a more creative approach to the cinematic problem of bringing the world of the child to the world of the sea, in a way that carries observation and message.

This show is a work of art. It combines education, gripping action and comedy to create one of, it not the best, show in the 21st century It will become a modern classic, it's a seminal pieces of work

My son Sebastian discovered this show in Fall 2020 and it very quickly became his favorite. Not hard to see why, either, given his love of ocean animals. The focus on "community helpers" is great, with just enough shadiness through the Quasi character, a former pirate. We all love to sing the "Creature Report" theme song, which, interestingly, is retained in English for the Spanish translation (he always watches the first 10-minute episode in Spanish).

This could be SO much better. The fact that they frequently intervene in natural occurrences when the "Octo-alert" is sounded really reinforces the "all animals are cute and shouldn't fight" nonsense.

Our kids do learn stuff about the animals however, from the creature reports. But generally this show is appallingly repetitive and also the attempts at making it multicultural (mostly with accents..bad ones.) are frequently cringeworthy and at worst stereotype reinforcing.

As something that kids watch a lot it could be so much more informative but instead it goes for cheap wins. And also the fact that every. Single. Injury. Is fixed with a bandage. Too many catchphrases.

So I have a little brother and he discovered this show (he's 4) in the spring of 2020 during quarantine, through that time this has become his favorite show. He will, without fail, quote his favorite lines from the likes of Peso, Quasi, and especially Barnacles. Jeez, even I, at 14, still enjoy watching Octonauts with my brother, I take it as one of my guilty pleasures. It is a children's show that doesn't talk down to its audience and remains educational and comedic.

All these shows are all the same in terms of animation and premises.

My daughter LOVES this show (she is two and a half). She names all of the animals while we are watching it, and if she sees those animals on other shows she names them then too. She has a blast at the aquarium. I appreciate this show because it includes females in science roles, which is nice for my daughter to be exposed to (Go Tweak and Dashii!).

A lot of kids should watch this! It deserves more fame and fortune! I can see everyone dedicated to this show worked hard on it! I couldn't believe that an actual human plays the Vegimals! And how do you do those whale calls!? I just want to know how the Octonauts actually came together!

This show is great on all levels. The animation, stories, humor, voice acting and educational value are all top notch. The humor between all the characters is even entertaining enough for adults. My wife and I will crack up at the adventures they go on. Each animal has their own personality, brought to life by the wonderful voice acting. And every episode wraps up teaching about an animal they encountered accompanied by a "creature report" song. Highly recommended!

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS THAT I HAVE EVER WATCHED

For one, this show is boring and flat. The characters are boring and the stories are too. I see many reviews and high ratings claiming this is entertaining, but I personally thought it was terrible - the sound effects were over-the-top and jarring, and the characters look strange and off-putting after a while. The characters are both unmemorable and also mind-numbing with the same doll face on all of them and boring expressions, and their character is extremely flat and boring saying the same boring over-the-top catchphrases. The story is nothing to praise; It tries to set things up for a good payoff to the climax but things are still painfully pushed around for sudden stakes and conflict or even resolutions which are both extremely boring and suddenly confusing to sit through. There are characters like the little turnip thing that are only there to look cute and give comic relief, only rarely getting spotlight or helping out, and the main characters sound boring and unnaturally bright and excited. Although it is educational, it still has facts that are off and compared to the flat and boring animation, jarring music and stale story, the education is the only edge it has, which is still boring and weird. Just because it's a kid show doesn't mean it can be awfully stale and boring, give a good show. If you're easily entertained and like flat color and constant catchphrase, this show is definitely for you.

Like the title says simple entertainment for little kids. does a great job offering them the ability to learn about sea creatures and other animals that live in or around the water. There's no overwhelming emotional attachment or political information involved in it at all. It's just simple quality entertainment for kids without violence, rhetoric or part of the adult world. I only wish they were more episodes available for the kiddo to enjoy. Ignore the negative review by their comparing it to MCU is absolutely beyond me.

She is 6 and has been watching it for years now. And while she is starting to branch out to so many different things at this stage in her life she still comes back to the show every now and then. Funny characters and a healthy dose of child appropriate humor that makes you feel comfortable letting your kid hang with a few episodes.

All of the spin off shows, and movies are great too. Really if you have a small child and are looking for a down to earth show that will be stimulating this is one of the better ones out there. They are always loading episodes with facts about marine biology, but manage to do so in a way that keeps kids interested. Super cool concept. A+

Although at times it can be slightly startling (the only flaw considering it's a kids show), but thats to be expected considering ITS THE SEA AND IT IS AN ACTION SHOW.

Characters - charming. Every one of them is memorable, and none blend together. Sure the main trio is a tad overused, but no one complained when Pokémon did it.

Episodes - some samey, but SOMEHOW in a good way.

Education? Bucketloads. Nay, OCEAN LOADS.

And the music is undeniably awesome. Especially the main theme. It sounds like something out of a mega man game remixed by god damn Mozart.

Cbeebies has a surprisingly awesome roster. This is one of their heavy hitters and one of their most famous - and for good reason. You netflix Devs were idiots to put this off.

Amazing show, to the plot twists and amazing characters, have to say though- Gup U is a cardinal sin. Great show, 11/10- would recommend. The intro is so iconic, hardcore captain barnaciles, so very bias.

"The Octonauts" is a pretty good show and it teaches kids about ocean life in a fun way. It doesn't do the standered 'good guy' and 'bad guy' theme instead focuses more on adventuring. The ending is better than any other kids tv show as instead of the 'everyone happy' formula and replaces that with the "creature report" section providing quick facts about the creature that episode is covering. The atmosphere of the environments used in this show may look colourful, but sometimes the environment can make the viewer a little on edge (well not like super scary as the show is towards kids). Overall I do like this show and even in adulthood I still come back to this show because this show can also be goofy at times.
