फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
This story of a sexy Gigolo quickly turned into a murder mystery story. The best thing about this series is the lead Jesús Castro's blue eyes and his 1989 BMW 325i convertible (LOL). Really there was nothing to get me addicted to watching it - as a matter of fact I kept switching to other series' and then coming back to it. I kept watching since I always finish everything I start and the Gigolo winds up in the center of the murder mystery. Winded together in this mystery is the Gigolo, his faux mother (a madam that rescued him from escaping from an orphanage and a crime and turned him into the Gigolo), her daughter with whom he was having an affair, his clients, his main client Ana, Ana's daughter who he fell in love with, Ana's father - all have reasons to kill the the one who got murdered (don't want to give it away). So in the end, I was surprised to see a shocking twist that was worth watching to the end (real killer was divulged).
No pun intended - especially because there is only one prominent one. And no it is not the one the title suggests - because the Gigolo of the title does not have a diary. Though I reckon it would have been intreresting to see him have one. But the character is well fleshed out enough (no pun intended here either).
But this is about events unfolding and culminating into something - well we are not entirely sure into what. Or rather whom - because while the police is there in the first scene, the first episode may suggest a different victim than the actual one. Also no pun detected (I thought I switch it up here).
Considering the title of the show - there is not much ... well erotic stuff going on. There is enough to get those who do not like scenes like that at all to be not happy, but not enough (skin) for those looking forward to scenes like that.
This is a mystery at heart, that unfolds by going back in time and retelling the things that happen. From different perspectives - no Rashomon here though. Still entertaining enough to say the least. The ending is a bittersweet deal I reckon - but if you suspend your disbelief it does make sense ... yes your questions will be answered.

I gave it 5 stars to practice my Spanish (!), but where it was set is anyone's guess, there was no alluding to any city, so could have been Mexico, Argentina - certainly not Spain as you'll see when the story unfolds.
Once again, Netflix seem to love these novellas where the set design comprises a lot of concrete. The interrogation room was devoid of anything bar a table and concrete ! Modern directors also seem to loathe lighting for reasons peculiar to themselves. So the audience has to play a guessing game of what is actually happening. The same when anyone enters their own home - WHY isn't the first thing they do is switch on a light ???? No they all stumble around in the dark instead. We need realism in our movies not the fantasy of the director.
The storyline itself was good, but it was the depiction of the production team that ruined it. I didn't mind seeing unknown actors playing the characters, but being English there are few well known Spanish actors to me anyway.
I won't spoil the ending, but its not something I want to sit through again, and it will be interesting to see if there will be a Diary of a Gigolo Pt 2.

Years ago, this would have been a straight to tape piece of junk, the movie where you fast forward to the sexy parts. Even then it wouldn't have created a stir. Today, it is still tedious and stupid, an unbelievable plot, dimly lit and filmed in some anonymous city. I still recommend using the fast forward button, but be careful, the sexy stuff doesn't last long. It might be good for practicing your Spanish. The actors are all unknowns, most with the anonymous, dark-eyed good looks of a soap opera star. A kid from an orphanage escapes the cops through the efforts of a madam who supplies sex partners to lonely, rich women. Although the kid looked way too old to be stuck in the orphanage, he learned to sport a tux, grow one of those persistent four-day-old beards and become popular with the older ladies. You can easily fill out the details. One episode was far too much. If I missed something important in the rest of the episodes, I apologize. Just about anything would be a better use of your time.
Pretty essential (and a bare minimum) when your show is about a gigolo, that the intimate scenes are electric, sensual and erotic.
That they are not.
Even the chemistry between the lead characters is def not there. That's partly a directors fault cause lacking chemistry can still be bettered by quality directing and editing.
Well, and so there's everything else about this show that's just poor quality: script, dialogues, storyline, editing.
It's just another cheap miss by Netflix. The priority nowadays seems to be making shows on a budget, and not striving for quality anymore.
Cause this is not quality. Sorry, to the actors.
