Finally a comprehensive depiction of all actors, events and opposing positions that lead to the birth of the Irish nation in the 20th century. Highly recommendable if you are a non-Irish outsider and you want to understand the history. All the confusing names I have been struggling with became clear... UVF, IRA, Black and Tans etc... all those names whose history you need to understand in order to also understand the Civil War in Northern Ireland. It even gave me a glimpse into why the high ideals of the Irish fight for freedom have crushed so bitterly nowadays. It is really unbelievable how much blood was shed and what a bitter sacrifice the Irish had to make....
