HTTP://www.examiner.com/movie-in-dallas/bobby-blakey Ever since Grindhouse hit theaters it has caused a resurgence of this genre of filmmaking. Some work and others not so much, but for the most part have created a whole new genre of entertainment if you get it. The latest to come along Cherry Bomb tackles the grindhouse genre throwing in a homage to 80's revenge flicks, but is it able to pull it off or will it live up to its name and be a bomb? Cherry Bomb follows a stripper hell bent on revenge after being assaulted. With the help of her brother they set out on a journey to do what the law won't. As a story, this film has everything on its side to create a fun revenge flick that holds no punches. Sadly it just doesn't have much else to help it along. The acting is pretty bad throughout, but not in that entertaining fun way you expect from these films. It could have still worked if they had the action or cult type substance these films usually incorporate, but it missed the boat there as well. Everyone seems to be giving it all, but somewhere it just seemed to fall apart. There was never any real urgency in any of the characters situations be it life or death. All the characters seemed all over the place never seeming all that consistent. The action was OK from time to time, but for a movie meant to focus on the revenge factor, this should have been where they push the envelope to make this film work, but instead they just seemed to let it happen and sadly it did not.
This is a decent attempt and shows clear effort with a smaller budget to create a fun movie, but sadly just misses the mark. From the start of this film it just never really gets going and becomes more laughable than it seemed to be intended. If in fact it was meant as more of a mockery of the genre and to be so bad it's good, then they succeeded in spades, it just doesn't look as though that was the intention.
