The Outlaws was a sleeper that became an unexpected hit in 2017. It was an action comedy with a nice balance of both comedy and action that was based on a true story called the Heuksapa Incident that occurred in Seoul in 2007 between two rival gangs.

After the original production schedule was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we finally have the sequel called The Roundup although the Korean title is The Outlaws 2 which is what it should've been for the English title as well to avoid any confusion.

If you're a fan of Ma Dong Seok aka Don Lee, who is a former boxer turned actor, you will definitely like this movie. If you're familiar with his filmography, particularly his action movies, there's nothing new here to be found but he's one of those actors that is so likeable that he could churn out a movie like this every year and it would still entertain you. It's just a testament to the fact that he stated he made this movie for the fans and to de-stress anyone who have been struggling during the pandemic.

The Outlaws had interesting fleshed out characters in both the protagonists and villains who had just the right amount of screen time which probably also explained the longer run time than the sequel since it was based on a true story. Jang Chen, played by Yoon Kye Sang, was a great villain who at the end, got what he deserved.

In The Roundup with its shorter run time and based on a crime statistic (i.e. Korean tourists going missing in foreign countries every year) instead of a true story, the villains this time are not as interesting, and we don't get to learn much about them other than the fact that they just kidnap tourists for money. The villain named Kang Hae Sang, played by an unrecognizable Son Seok Koo and his first foray into the action genre, is just as vicious if not as interesting as Jang Chen.

In terms of the action, you will get exactly what you expect: clean but brutal fight scenes as well as thrilling chases just like the original.

The comedy is just as good and, in some ways, better than the original and the movie will certainly make you laugh.

Overall, if you like The Outlaws, you will definitely like this movie too but don't expect anything groundbreaking although some may like The Roundup even more than The Outlaws. And since it's been reported that a third installment is in the works, hopefully we will not have to wait as long for the sequel.

Just as fun and involving as expected. Ma Dong-seok kicks ass once again!

In comparison to The Outlaws, this was an even better mix of action and humor. It upends the first film not only in quantity of well-choreographed fight scenes, but in extending them into bigger, more full-fledged set-pieces as well. Case in point: a terrific car chase that manages to maneuver into street brawling before getting back on the road chasing. Much as I find this film solid in terms of generally everything (acting, plot, production...), it's the action that kept me glued to the screen, and dammit, it delivered in spades.

If there's one thing I'd call a setback, it's the overall feel of inevitability in how it all pans out. In other words, nothing is really unexpected or original storywise. But that's something you learn to accept and swallow with many films if you're an avid watcher, let alone when it's regarding an action thriller with its goals primarily being that of adrenaline spiking. And laughing at some really well-delivered jokes.

In short, it's another bruising vehicle for Don Lee's persona, as well as a thrilling showcase for comedic action done right. Meaning you should watch it ASAP.

Bone-crushing action flick which makes us laugh while offering up regular jolts of adrenaline due to Sukku's rampage performance. Lee Sang-yong had great sound mixing that made Don Lee stand out as 'super-police'. Equally good sequel you wish would continue.

Gilgamesh, I mean Ma Dong-seok, and his incomparable vigor is the star of this devilishly entertaining action-thriller-comedy. The plot might tad shaky in its focus, but the film never strays in delivering its ravishing thrills.

This is the best action film I have seen in years. The Roundup is very well done and it's worth your attention. If you can handle subtitled movies, then you should take it in.

This time the presentation is far more refined and more smoothed around the edges! Almost all the issues that I have encountered on the previous occasion have been rectified except for a couple. We've got ourselves better fights, comparatively more space for the primary cast to breathe, and last but not least, a competent portraiture of an unrelieved and an unyielding antagonist, who will make you terrified.

But, hey you don't need to worry. Don Lee (Ma Dong-Seok) is here to save the day (yet again) with his overpowering charm and his heavenly fist, and boy oh boy! Doesn't he pack a punch!

After months of waiting got to see the sequel to my all time favorite action thriller, The Outlaws. Just like a million other reviews I have only good things to say about the Round Up and yes it thrilled me to bits. Unlike the first movie Deputy Ma has softened up and he is seen laughing and having fun. I liked the earlier version of Ma, he was damn serious and made everyone who watched him laugh..the Venom-Jang Isu compromise scene for example. The Round Up also has a flamboyant musical score, projecting Ma as 'the beast cop', very cliched. The Outlaws on the other hand had a subdued score which came alive ferociously only at the right time. The title scene and Ma and boys approaching the Venom thugs gave me goosebumps. MOWG..what a composer. In the Round Up the supporting cast gets a lot of screen time, Jang Isu, The rookies,Dong-gyun all gets to do some rollicking action.

Of course the icing on cake is Sukku Son, brutal and fits the role to the t. The final confrontation should go to some action hall of fame. Ju Seong-rims' camera and Kim Sun-mins' cuts are top notch.

With all due respect to Sang Yong Lee, kindly bring back Yoon Seon Kang as director and Mowg as composer for the franchise. Please..

I would like to note that I've been up on Don Lee for a minute. Ever snice I saw Champion (quite literally a Korean adaption of Over the Top), and before he did the Eternals, which unfortunately, was not the movie to introduce the Train to Busan star to American audiences.

My man is going for a Slyvester Stallone style here. For me as an American it's very much a though back to 80s and 90s action movies, before the Kenau Reeves era. He's so tough, that he's got a bad ass guitar riff score he enters all his coolest scenes to.

The action is raw and brutal, like we kind of expect from a Korean film. These guys don't shy away from the violence. Plus, it's a good and gritty police drama at its core. I had so much fun seeing it in theatres man!

Plus, I discovered it's a Sequel to another movie! I got to see that now!!

The good news? Not often you see a professional production where the star is also the writer. But Ma Dong-seok has successfully created an interesting character for himself -- the Beast Cop -- and in fairness that character is the only really fascinating part of the production. The rest is a by-the-numbers police procedural. The action is pro forma, appearing every few minutes whether needed or not. If only the story was as interesting as the main character. And you can't accuse Ma Dong-seok of adding female characters as eye-candy. There are no female leads. None. Literally.

This movie kicked major butt!!! Excellent acting, witty writing and precisely choreographed action sequences really brought it in this Korean cop action film. Apparently it's a sequel, but honestly you would never know it. The film holds its own quite well. It was very reminiscent of the Steven Seagul movies from the 80's & 90's, in which there is a lot of awesome fight scenes, but it also has a story that kept you interested throughout. I highly recommend this one for fans of Korean films, or action films in general. 4 hard punches out of 5.

It's just a joy watching Ma giving the beating out of the bad guys. This guy looks like One Punch Man where he arrives late, but save the day. Without the hero, every moments of the film where the bad guys are you cannot stop but feel helpless for all those around the bad guy(s). Whether they're good or just thugs, you know they'll die or almost. And when Ma shows up you feel relieved, and just enjoy him beating the bad guys. It's just hilarious!

Even the meanest of the bad guys is like a puppy face to Ma. The film is a great sequel and is better than the first.

Action packed movie where there are no real good guys, just a hero cleaning up the street. I had great joys watching this. Hope you will as well.

I thought we would never see the beast cop again after the Outlaws, and this cop is still giving criminals beat downs even worse than first film, the movie had a lot of good comedic moments as well as exciting fight scenes, I am a huge fan of Don Lee, I thought Unstoppable was another good action film he starred in, he continues to get better with each film, the Roundup didn't need fancy special effects or gadgets to entertain an audience, this was that throwback action cop flick, that's filled with excitement and laughs. I hope we see cop Ma again in the future, criminals take note, this dude is handing out a** whooping of various types, thumbs up, one of the better action films this year.

The Roundup" spins a tale that is sadly predictable, offering little in terms of originality or surprise. However, what it lacks in storytelling innovation, it compensates for with its riveting action sequences that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The main character, although possessing unrealistically powerful abilities, manage to deliver some genuinely thrilling moments throughout the film. Humor is sprinkled generously throughout, providing much-needed comic relief amidst the chaos. Unfortunately, the decision-making of the characters often leaves much to be desired, leading to frustrating inconsistencies in the plot. Nonetheless, "The Roundup" remains an enjoyable movie, especially if you're in the mood for some mindless entertainment or looking for a fun distraction. So, if you find yourself with spare time or under the influence of something that enhances the viewing experience, this film might just be worth a watch.

First, If you are in the mood of a good action thriller, this movie is better than the 90% action movies produced by Hollywood in recent years.

Second, the main character is great. A mixture of Bud Spencer and Clint Eastwood with a badge. In a Korean way, of course.

Third, I really love Korean movies, usually bloody, raw and gory, but at the same time funny. In this one, the balance is magnificent of action, blood and fun is almost perfect. Some jokes here and there, acceptable script, and great performance from the main character. Also the villain is great too.

So, if you want something different, a movie full of action and with acceptable script, this one is for you. Hopefully we will have a second part.

Ma Seok-do is a Korean police detective who bends the rules against the criminals. He is tasked to retrieve a criminal who had surrendered to the Korean embassy in Vietnam. He is a number of Korean criminals operating in southeast Asia preying on Korean tourists and businessmen. Ma is joined by his Captain. They soon discover that ruthless criminal Kang Hae-sang is involved and they set out to take him down.

This is a fun police character. He is an irreverent Dirty Harry who ridicules the criminals after he smacks them around. This is a sequel to The Outlaws which I haven't seen. One doesn't have to see that to appreciate this. There are some good fight action. The car action can do a bit of improving, but there is plenty of it. This is fun as long as one don't take this seriously.

Don lee knows his strength and his comical senses which he adapts quickly and rest is a blockbuster deals... With a usual gangster plot the action sequences are brutal and off blood bath which keeps u hold ur nerve that's purely based on a characters and their perception,and with a well crafted screenplay that's racy enough to find out the loop holes is difficult while ur surprisingly out of the flick... With all the lead cast intended to give u a rib tickling comedy that goes along with a flow is a tough call and that's where the flick gets recognition on a larger scale... Overall a pure action punch out film that gets u introduced to a new age action star called Don lee.

Wow. What's even more mind boggling is this film is newb Korean filmmaker Sang-yong Lee's only second-ever film as director, and his first as writer, jointly written with lead action star Don Lee. Hollywood, take notes.

This film in its entirety was just perfection - there's nothing I can complain about, and nothing I would change. It felt like it was directed by a seasoned action-film director. Every scene, especially the action parts, were seamless. The action choreography was outstanding. Punching a face through a windshield - brilliant! There was so much of that - action scenes I've never seen before that were jaw-dropping. I mean the creative juices were flowing in abundance for this film. The cinematography was spot on, as was the score. And the writing was just as perfect, with an excellent and refreshingly smart story that had the perfect balance of comedy, gore, thrills and suspense. The pacing was perfect so the 106 min runtime just flew by. The casting was amazing, with Sukku Son as Kang playing his role as a demented bad guy to perfection, and Don Lee doing the Hulk Smash like a champ, you could hear bones shatter. All his action scenes were perfectly choreographed and his added witty humor during those scenes was the cherry on top. And his charisma throughout every other scene was just as grand.

This is the best international action crime film I've seen in a long time - and even more impressive is that it was put together by a newb filmmaker. I just wish someone would dub it in English so I wouldn't have to keep reading the subtitles and miss all the good stuff. Hopefully that happens soon. I can't wait to see what Sang-yong and Don Lee come up with next.

The bad: skip the first hour with lots of talk and no action. Really bad start. The action only really gets going later on in this movie, but when the fury is finally released we get so some really solid action.

The good: really great action fights. With bare knuckle fists beating up the bad guys.

I saw this in a cinemark. Worth the money and the time. Don Lee and Sukku Son steal the show in this action flick. Expertly done, especially the comedy bits flicked throughout to give the audience a breather. Only con I can think of is the plot armor. A worthy sequel to The Outlaws.

Not as much action as the trailer suggests but some good sequences and in jokes along the way and lots and lots of flip phones! The attempts at humour though sometimes come across as extra unwanted cheese and the patty is a bit thin lacking the real meatiness of a full on Korean actioner but despite that it does have redeeming qualities and well worth a watch just don't he tempted by the dubbed option as this completely dislocates the timing of the dialogue and ruins the movie. Some of the violence would have been better on screen rather that relying on the sound studio to fill in the chops off screen .the John wick films did it better.
