फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
From the start, I quite liked Black Cake, particularly the first few episodes. The plot is intriguing, it's very well cast, and the significant amount of tension makes it work. The sets, costumes, and cinematography are quite fitting. The ocean scenes in the Caribbean have a lush feel, serving as an effective contrast to the troubled relationships.
But something happened around episode 3. It's when I felt that this series should have been produced in a more compressed form. Rather than 8 episodes, how about 6? I've just finished the 5th episode, and I'm further convinced. The core story seems to be diluted by tangents and extra relationships. There are moments of unintended humor in this episode, because it's veering into soap opera territory. I feel a bit let down. I've not read the novel it's based on, but I would presume the script follows it faithfully. I plan to continue watching the show, but it seems like the producers have somehow missed the mark.

This series is amazing. I almost turned it off because of the first 5 minutes... until I saw actor Glenn Turman. His presence on screen grounded the project for me. As I've watched more and more of the series, I am blown away by the storyline and the series' production value. The entire team has brought forth its 'A game.' If I did have a complaint, I am unsure if the storyline with the two siblings is valuable. Yes, it is valid for a book - not so much for a screen. Every time they were on screen, I wanted to get back to the actual story featuring actress Mia Isaac.
I highly recommend that everyone watch this series.

Was very disappointed when learned there wouldn't be a season 2. This was such a great series and had great reviews. We were anticipating a second season and now feel cheated. It really seems shows with black characters and storyline of substance seem to get canceled especially by Hulu. I loved the characters and each character's storyline. I really thought about canceling my Hulu subscription because again they seem to cancel black driven character shows off substance and I'm not happy about how they handle black content. I how another network will pick up and continue this series to give fans what they are asking and that's good tv.
Hulu's new show "Black Cake" is a must-watch.
This multi-generational saga, led by showrunner and executive producer Marissa Jo Cerar, weaves together elements of murder mystery and family drama.
It kicked off on November 1st.
Black Cake delivers an expansive family saga, showcasing mixed-race identities seldom seen in today's TV landscape.
This narrative also mirrors how a hidden dessert can reveal a tumultuous reality.
Beyond garnering critical acclaim, this eight-episode adaptation is a treat that mystery thriller enthusiasts have long anticipated.
The show breaks new ground by featuring a protagonist who is half-Jamaican and half-Chinese, offering a refreshing perspective seldom seen on television.
The casting of Mia Isaac, who hails from a Black and Asian background, - in the role of Covey, is a welcome breath of fresh air in the world of TV."

Don't let the low rating fool you - this show is a hidden gem! I was hooked from the get-go with a story that just pulls you right in. The whole mystery surrounding Covey's disappearance back in the '60s and how it ties up with the present-day drama is nothing short of engaging.
Now, if you're a softie, be warned - the score is an emotional rollercoaster, and it's setting you up for some serious handkerchief moments in the episodes to come.
I have to give props to the creators for the attention to detail in recreating the era. It's clear they went the extra mile to get the setting just right. And oh, the performances! Mia Isaac truly shines, but I must say, at times Adrienne Warren's theatrical flair felt a bit too much amidst the subtler scenes.
But hey, the blending of family drama with a murder mystery is done so well. The show doesn't just scratch the surface but delves deep into issues of identity and family ties, all while keeping you on the edge of your seat with the mystery at hand. 'Black Cake' is definitely worth a watch,
