Some of the lead actors have famous Irish family members. Sharon Horgan (Eva) is a sister of former Irish rugby player Shane Horgan. Eve Hewson (Becka) is the daughter of U2's Bono. Brian Gleeson (Thomas) is a son of actor Brendan Gleeson and brother of actor Domhnall Gleeson.

Though nominally set in and around Dublin, Ireland, the show was shot in a number of locations throughout the Republic of Ireland, as well as in Northern Ireland and in the UK. The neighborhood where Grace's and Roger's houses are located in season one, for instance, is actually in a suburb of London.

Blanaid's name (anglicized from the more traditional Bláthnaid) means Flower or Blossom in Irish and Gaelic.
