Ethan Rhoad proposes a decent portrait of his graham, large ball of doubts, frustrations , memories and impulses, self lies and reasonable solution to them.
Inspired circle of young women helping in a measure or other.
Not so bad final.
It is a static film and it pretends just serious dose of patience or the good empaty for not interrupt to see it.
But, as compensation, he has just seductive details, from paintings to the dragonfly jewel, from the atmosphere of party to realistic portrait of Alice and nice try in the case of Dahlia.
The dialogue is not brilliant and the moral lesson of final seems too pathetic.
The familiar things are just fair support for story.
In fact, it is an atmosphere film. The story, remaining only a sketch, it is difficult to be more than simple pretext. But it has the virtue to remind personal states of soul, old emotions and, in essence, it is its precious good point. A film about courage to define yourself . And, in real sense, begin the life.

It seems to me that the message of the film is this : if you're not sure about your sexual identity as a young guy, then don't live surrounded only by very talkative girls who know it all. What the "boy" (21 years old!) needed was as a number of young males around him, then he would've soon discovered if his libido was aroused by the same sex.
All the listening the poor guy had to do was painful to me! Also he and his "teachers" mostly just sat in one place for long periods while the lesson was being conducted. So the variety of location was very limited.
Finally, it had to be accidents that threw him into the company of someone of the same sex! And that someone didn't need to be very attractive (I'm being kind) as a result!

This is a one and done for me. It kept my interest enough to watch the whole thing. Like others, it was tempting to fast forward, but I didn't. The biggest thing is that I felt this movie too preachy. It was like a series of soliloquies. It almost felt like a verbalization of text dialogues. Not enough interaction, back and forth. Therefore, it didn't feel like naturally flowing conversation. Other than the script, the performances themselves were about 50/50. Some good ones but also some very bad stilted ones. The lead was very good; probably saved the movie. At the same time, the premise was a little different. Not so typical of gay movies. Maybe a true coming out movie!
