'Night Nurse' (Ruth Connell), a demonic being that works for 'Death', and the 'Dead Boy Detectives' made their first live action TV appearances in the third season of 'Doom Patrol (2019)', played by Sebastian Croft (Rowland) and Ty Tennant (Payne).

English author Neil Gaiman, who created the characters of 'Dead Boy Detectives' during the "Season of Mists" storyline in the comic book 'Sandman #25', wrote three scenes for the first season, one each in episodes 01, 07, and 08.

The 'Sandman' comic book universe, on which this series was based, was also adapted into the live-action TV series 'The Sandman (2022)' and 'Lucifer (2016)'.

Ruth Connell is the only actor from 'Doom Patrol (2019)' to reprise her role as 'Night Nurse' for this series. Kirby Howell-Baptiste as 'Death' and Donna Preston as 'Despair' reprised their roles from the series 'The Sandman (2022)'.

This show could be said to be a spin-off of Doom Patrol (2019), as the characters made their first TV appearance in the season 3 episode "Dead Patrol (2021)". However, with the Max streaming service's pivot away from original content, the series was purchased by Netflix, as they already produced The Sandman (2022), which takes place in the same comics universe (with both titles originally created by Neil Gaiman).
