फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
I must say that I knew nothing about this film, all I saw was a teaser trailer on a small screen. But I had a good feeling about the film, although to be honest, I expected something different.
The film is set in Norrköping, Sweden, in the 90s and follows a smart but headstrong teen girl who has lost her father. Yet, there's a possibility he's alive. Intent on finding him and uncover the truth, she visits her father's old colleagues and friends at 'UFO-Sverige,' aka UFO Sweden. Which is, by the way, a real organization founded in the 70s.
This is the kind of film that I am missing in the american cinema these days. The screenplay definitely has an american influence to it though, and by that I mean the good ol' (late) 20th century america. For the most part, the story surprised me in a positive way.
I was also positively surprised by the cinematography. Despite being a relative newcomer to feature films, Victor Danell did a splendid job as a director.
Inez Dahl Torhaug and Jesper Barkselius were both great in their roles, and the supporting cast was solid.
(I see a bright future for Victor Danell and Inez Dahl Torhaug in the film industry!)
If you want to see a fun sci-fi themed film that is easy to watch, I'd recommend this. I rate it a strong 7+/10.

Movies about aliens are nothing particularly new, but this little-known Swedish production could be a game changer in several regards. Writer-director Victor Danell's 2022 action-adventure sci-fi offering (originally titled "UFO Sweden") tells the story of a rebellious teen (Inez Dahl Torhaug) who believes that her mysteriously disappeared father (Oscar Töringe), an ardent UFO researcher and leader of a cult-like group of eccentric investigators, is not dead but was, in fact, abducted by aliens, a claim she's determined to prove. Armed with her dad's research and aided by his band of onetime colleagues, most notably a former climate scientist (Jesper Barkselius), she sets out to fulfill her quest, one that often strains credibility and leaves her precariously teetering on the brink of the law. Her impassioned odyssey is presented through a cleverly constructed narrative that feels like a cross between "The X-Files" and "Scooby Doo," an enticing supernatural mystery peppered with delightful quirkiness, touches of camp, dashes of Spielbergian wit and whimsy, and heart-tugging period nostalgia given its decade-long setting beginning in 1988. In addition, the film successfully incorporates a combination of colorful characters, ample action sequences and gentle comic relief, playing very much like one of the adventurous romps of the time frame in which it's set. What truly sets this picture apart, however, is its highly effective use of a revolutionary new form of AI known as "immersive dubbing," a technology that digitally adjusts the movements of the actors' mouths to match newly supplied audio, making it appear as though performances originally delivered in Swedish look authentic when now spoken in dubbed-over English. Without a doubt, conventional dubbing is a production practice I've always seen as somewhat dubious, given its many inherent pitfalls, but the dubbing employed here is so seamlessly integrated that one cannot tell that the performances weren't delivered in English from the outset. This is a cinematic development that holds the potential to dramatically change foreign language films for English-speaking audiences (particularly American viewers who generally loathe to read subtitles), thereby arguably opening an entirely new market for lesser-known but eminently worthwhile overseas releases that genuinely deserve wider domestic distribution. It's difficult to say how readily this technology will be used by foreign filmmakers, but it gives them a new tool that may make their works more accessible and appealing to US audiences. Of course, immersive dubbing alone is no guarantee of artistic success for foreign offerings, as is even the case here to a certain degree in light of the film's occasionally slow pacing in the first hour. But, as this story plays out, it becomes increasingly engaging, especially with the inspired twists and turns that emerge. It's also interesting to note that several narrative carrots are dangled for viewers, suggesting the possibility for sequel(s) to continue this story in intriguing additional ways. "Watch the Skies" may not be perfect as sci-fi pictures go, but it represents a potential watershed moment in the annals of filmmaking and the entertainment potential of this genre, and, on those fronts alone, it deserves a watch, particularly for fans of science fiction and foreign releases. In the spirit of storied franchises like "Star Trek," this could represent a journey where no one has gone before - and one that offers new vistas for the future of the movies.
6.6 on Imdb does not make this movie justice!
This is a gem that deserves more attention, as it, contrary to many Swedish movies, has fun characters, it is well played/acted and manages to take you back to the 80ies and 90ies. Their attention to detail was great, with a lot of props and other things relating to actual 80ies and 90ies, action scenes were fantastic and special effects were tasteful and very well made.
I was very surprised how well the action scenes were made, with intense car chases and hard-to-make fast scenes - super cool to see in a budget Swedish movie.
It made me laugh and wanna see more!

I had no idea what i expected from this movie beforehand. But my expectations were not too high.
I don't watch a lot of Swedish movies anymore. Mostly because of the fact that, they're usually not entertaining. But I've seen some of "Crazy Pictures" earlier work and always enjoyed their humor. Which is why I gave this one a shot.
You can say a lot about this movie, that it's unrealistic, not too much character development and predictable.
But with a good soundtrack, likable/quirky characters and impressive special effects, this movie will probably win you over. It's fast paced and with comedic elements, which will keep you watching.
Honestly a good watch and a step in the right direction for Swedish cinema.

I stumbled upon the 2022 Swedish sci-fi adventure movie "UFO Sweden" by random luck here in 2023. I hadn't heard about the movie, so I didn't know what I was getting myself into as I opted to sit down and watch it.
Writers Victor Danell and Jimmy Nivrén Olsson put together a fairly interesting script and storyline for the movie. It is a story where the audience are kept pretty much in the dark throughout the majority of the movie. And on that account, I guess it is either a love it or hate it situation for the audience, as I suppose some viewers would like to be filled in on what is actually going on. Personally, then I enjoyed the secrecy and being kept in the dark.
Given my limited exposure to Swedish cinema, then I was unfamiliar with all performers on the cast list. However, I will say that they had a good collection of talents to perform in the movie, bringing the quirky characters to life in good ways on the screen.
While "UFO Sweden" is a rather ambitious undertaking from director Victor Danell, the movie did fare rather well.
Visually then "UFO Sweden" was okay. It is not a movie that made excessive use of CGI and special effects. But whatever effects were in the movie were actually looking quite nice, and helped further the movie in a rewarding manner.
If you enjoy sci-fi movies then you should definitely give "UFO Sweden" a chance. I am not a major sci-fi buff myself, but I did find this movie to be entertaining enough.
My rating of "UFO Sweden" lands on a six out of ten stars.
