The series from which this spawned, Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny were know for having their soppy love moments, but at the forefront was always a serious story and themes of power, politics and regular people getting caught between corrupt leaders waging senseless wars. There were moments of levity and love but the tone was always mature. The love stories were related to the plot.
Gundam Seed Freedom replaces the mature tone for some teenage love drama, and it's ridiculous. Officers fighting over which boy should love who, soldiers acting like kids in high school, all while waging a nuclear war which is incinerating thousands of innocents. It's just laughable.
On the plus side, it is nice to see the characters again, and in beautiful HD animation, despite the fact that the characters don't really act like the same characters from the series. They even throw in a few gooner shots for the pervs. It really is the animation that saves this movie.
Don't even get me started on the English dub. I never understand when a studio takes all the time to produce something from an existing IP but can't even get the pronunciation of the names right. Who is Lacoose?! Fire EaglestelOOnz! Kira YaMOto. Come on. Say the names of everything the same way they were originally pronounced to maintain continuity. They got it even worse than that Last Airbender live action movie did.
Worth watching for the animation. It's also decent nostalgia for those who loved the series, and it's not absolutely terrible. It's dumb but it's not bad. That's the best fans can hope for in this dark era of cinema.

This movie accomplishes so much in a two hour time-run, and has at no-point been unengaging. It does so much justice with the story left off from the end of SEED Destiny, by building up on what has already been established, as opposed to creating something completely different. Moreover, it explores the horrors that comes with segregating people based on genetics and skills, and the consequences it has on human and societal development.
As such, all the characters are written perfectly; even reamending characters that were previously despised in the last series to the point they are now beloved (Shinn Asuka). Both the music and animation is truly to be commended for as well, with iconic songs also being brought back in greater appreciation of the two preceding series. In addition to this, there are many great and comedic moments in the film that keeps the audience entertained throughout the whole run.
Everyone should take the opportunity to watch this amazing anime film in cinema, as its focus is so much more than just mecha action!

Simply put this is gundam at its best. You may not like Gundam Seed but it's a fact that it is one of the best and most beloved Gundam series. It saved gundam back in the 2000s and is giving it a resurgence again so the vocal minority may not like it but you dam well better respect it for its significance. But thats what makes gundam great is we have something for everyone. Seed was awesome and Destiny was obviously a rushed mess but the remaster does do a good job of cleaning it up. This movie is for the fans and gives this series the high note it deserved to end on if this truly is the end of it. Give it a watch. It's a lot of fun.

The premise is the same as both Seed and Destiny. So and so believes they can control the world and they want to nuke everyone.
Main character spread was great but the constantly bad English dub actors with little to no emotion at times. Not to mention the obvious same voice actor for multiple characters with no breaks between characters speaking was a let down from the beginning.
Will never get over everyone calling Lacus a Caboose, Err, Sorry Lacoooose. And the voice actor sounded like a mouth breather and nowhere near Lacus's original voice. It was killing the vibe within minutes.
Watch the original version with subtitles and save yourself the heartache of your favourite characters being butchered.
Hopefully AI can some day fix this video with proper voice actors.

I thought the movie was very good, it has dramatic, exciting and other fun scenes.
In general, I thought the story was good, for example it gives more meaning to the genetic experiments and makes some characters question their lives more. I also liked several of the new characters, such as Agnes.
I also liked seeing scenes from this saga with new animation since the 2002 and 2004 series seem a little old in that regard.
I think that as a fan of Seed I was satisfied and I liked the ending, I thought it was quite beautiful.
Anyway, I really missed seeing my favorite Gundam characters and mechas.

If you enjoyed the seed universe that the original director and writer created, then this movie makes sense. There is payoff to the character developments and relationships and themes she created. To truly appreciate the movie, you really need to invest in the shows. The seed universe should be evaluated as a whole. In a time when sequels are more misses than hits this movie reinforces the themes that have been present throughout: Free will, destiny, fate, love, the cause and prevention of war. So, the seed universe is great for philosophical discussion. It's rare that a story can have entertainment, action, romance, and deep philosophical themes.

So, I finally watched Gundam Seed Freedom. I honestly never thought I'd ever see this film. This is a movie that's been talked about ever since Destiny ended back in the 2000s, yet nothing ever came of it for decades. I thought this movie would never be a thing. So, when I first saw the trailers for this over a year ago, my first thought was "Really? This is actually happening?" But, my second reaction was indifference.
If this movie had come out ten to fifteen years ago, I would've been extremely hyped for it. I was a massive Gundam fan back then. I still am now, but my hype for Gundam was at its peak in those days. I loved the original Gundam Seed. Even now, despite my several issues with the series, I think the original Seed is a decent show, especially if you watch the remastered version. It has a really bad reputation because it's linked with Seed Destiny, which really sucks. I didn't like Destiny back then, and I definitely don't now. That, and the fact that it's been so long, my interest expectations for this film were pretty low. The fact that it's taken me this long to finally watch it should say enough.
Yet, I still found myself disappointed. Yeah, I don't like this film much at all. I won't say it's the worst Gundam movie ever. F91 still holds that spot for me. But I will say it's the worst of the three Gundam movies based on an alternate-universe franchise, being this movie, Endless Waltz and Awakening of the Trailblazer. I'm one of the few Gundam fans that loves Awakening of the Trailblazer. I think that film is great, and a worthy end to the 00 franchise. I would even say a necessary one.
This film is much like Endless Waltz in that they're both rather unnecessary, tacked-on sequels to stories that had completed, and had nowhere left to go. But I would rather watch Endless Waltz over this.
There are some good things about this movie. The art and animation are both good. All the constant recycled animation both Seed and Destiny are infamous for is pretty much gone here. There are some, but they feel more like homages rather than laziness. The music is good. That's always been a constant strength of this franchise.
Kira and Lacus actually go through arcs in this, and are actually allowed to show vulnerability, which was sorely lacking in Destiny. They actually feel more in line with how they were characterized in the original Seed. The mobile suits all look cool, old and new models, save one. The Destiny Gundam actually got a better combat showcase here than it ever did in Destiny. I would argue Shin got the most badass moments in the film, even more than Kira.
That's it for the compliments though. The worst part about this film is that it's a complete rehash of destiny. The movie starts with the heroes fighting the same terrorist group from the first half of Destiny. The main villains have the same goal as Durandel, the main villain of Destiny. They even recycle the same superweapon from the end of Destiny. The climax is pretty much identical to the final battle of Destiny, with the same stakes.
The new characters, on both the hero and villain sides, are all nothing to speak of. The main villain is pretty much a lame mix of Durandel from Destiny and Azrael from Seed. He's a worse version of both characters.
Athrun has criminally little screen time. Cagalli has even less and does little to nothing. Murrue and Mu are...there. Shin, while having the most badass action bits, is still treated like crap from pretty much everybody for the entire film. It's sad because Shin could've been a decent protagonist in Destiny, as the first half of that series was actually somewhat decent. But, they completely screwed him over at the end of that show, and here he's treated like an idiot and a joke by everyone.
People complain about 00 and the Witch from Mercury and how many of the battles feel very Shounen-like, but they have nothing on this film. The fights in Destiny already felt too Shounen-like, but this took it to another level. Some of the Gundam battles in this finale would be right at home in G Gundam. Honestly, this film feels like a Gundam movie and more like a Shounen movie. You know, like the old DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece movies. This feels like one of those. Gundam is supposed to be a war story. Seed felt like a war story. Even Destiny felt more like a war story than this does.
I wouldn't say this is a horrible movie. I just find it a nothing burger. Maybe if this had come out in the late 2000s I would be less hard on it. But as a film released now, it just feels like a cash grab, capitalizing on nostalgia, like a lot of things nowadays. This feels a lot like the code Geass Resurrection film we got several years ago, and I'd rather watch that than this.
This film really isn't for anyone except diehard fans of everything Seed. If you don't like either Seed or Destiny don't watch this. If you like Seed but not Destiny, don't watch this. If you're someone who's curious about Gundam Seed, then just watch the first series, and pretend nothing after that exists.

I loved the Mobile Suit Gundam Anime as a kid. This is one of those properties that made me fall in love with Anime in general. Now to be far, I haven't watched any episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Series, so I am new to this version of Mobile Suit Gundam, but that didn't stop me from watching this movie. I just finished watching this movie and I loved it. And honestly, I'm surprised by how good this movie, especially given its production history.
Positives for Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom (2024): I loved the story and journey that this movie goes on with these characters. You can tell that there was a lot of care given to this movie and I can honestly say that Chiaki Morosawa would be proud of this movie and what it does for fans of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. As with any anime, the animation looks gorgeous and the score was phenomenal. The action sequences in this movie are among some of the best action sequences I've seen in any anime. The themes this movie explore are very deep and emotional throughout the runtime and it makes the whole experience all the more grander and powerful. And finally, I moved the way that this movie ends and it made me so happy to the point where I was on the verge of happy tears.
Overall, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom (2024) is a phenomenal anime movie in general, but it is also a phenomenal love letter to the die hard fans of this series and I love the movie all the more for those reasons.

After 18 years, what horrible sequel this is. Why'd they have to make this bs? It doesn't offer anything new.
The story feels like watching repeat of chunks from season 1 and 2. The comedy is mediocre and the horrible main characters are really really weird. The personalities doesn't look like what it was in the previous seasons.
The first season was too great. The second season was good as well. But this is just horrible. It was better not to make any sequel if they gonna produce this low quality story and ruin the entire series.
Albeit it felt really good watching these classic characters in action, but though very very disappointed.

After Waiting so long to see this movie, I tried watching this movie on Netflix last night. Since it wasn't released in theaters nearby where I live when it came out in theaters, but I had to turn it off not even 10 minutes in because the dub in this movie is trash like they can even get names right. For example, and it's probably the worst lacus has been pronounced lack-us for almost 2 decades. The fact that they butchered her name so bad by calling her lack-oos is just an insult of the fans really. Like they got some of the other characters named wrong and a bunch of mobile suits named wrong, but lacus was the worst. It would be nice if the people in charge of dubbing these things would actually watch some of the episodes of the anime to see how things are pronounced like there's two seasons that are like almost 50 episodes each just watched some of the episodes and get the pronunciations, right.

Do not watch the English dub of this movie if you are a fan of seed and seed destiny. The entire English dub cast including the voice actor for Lacus Clyne pronounced her name wrong. The English dub cast was mediocre at best and I do not know who signed off on that pile of garbage.
I was able to watch the movie with Japanese audio after looking for it and I would rate that version of the movie at about a 6.5 out of 10. I was able to watch the entire movie in one go. I kept turning the English dub version off on Netflix every 10 to 15 minutes because the mispronounced character names and mediocre voice acting kept pissing me off. I would have preferred to hear A. I. narrate the entire English dub over the voice actors they used. I would rate zero stars if I could for the English dub version.

The title is not meant in a positive way, I literally dropped my jaw at how stupid some of the plot beats in this movie were. SEED was always corny even in the best of times but this is just way too much. I appreciate the shows but there's just nothing to enjoy here other than the animation and fights. The old characters feel like they're only here to satisfy fandom ships and all the new characters are just recycled old characters. Almost everything in the movie is just devoid of any new ideas except stapling tired anime tropes to already explored concepts. Hard pass.
