A Journey of Love

I had the thrill of viewing the film, "Play Me Like That" staring, Nicole Gabriella Scipione as Slipper and Alina Phelan as Crescent whom are sisters in this beautiful story of sisterly love and their magical relationship.

Their onscreen relationship will make you believe they are sisters off screen as it is pure magic.

The story is about two wild, fun-loving, hippy-type, free-spirited sisters whom both long to have a child and their journey going forward to achieve that goal, along with the emotions attached to making that dream a reality.

Their magical relationship screams of the love they have for one another as well as the love in their hearts for the unborn child they long to have and be a part of one another lives.

The onscreen relationship between Nicole and Allina is just like they were real blood-bonded sisters.

They portrayed their parts with beauty, grace and love for one another in the onscreen parts they portrayed.

The music was beautiful and very fitting for the film.

You will need to be prepared to laugh, cry, and have a plethora of emotions as you take this journey with the sisters.

I look forward to more of Nicole's brilliant work in film being seen very soon.

A tender portrait of sisterhood

A tender and refreshingly honest portrait of sisterhood, this short film captures the quiet complexities of love, resentment, and reconciliation between two women. It thoughtfully explores the rarely depicted emotional terrain of two sisters at a crossroads, as they face a life-changing decision that will alter their relationship. The performances from the cast are superb and heartfelt. What comes about is a film that takes you on a journey of the heartbreaking and hopeful, as our protagonist comes to terms with the unexpected and her own personal journey and hopes for motherhood. A reminder that what we plan for and expect might not always be what we receive.

A moving, poetic short with standout performances and visual elegance

Play Me Like That is a tender, emotionally layered short that leaves a lasting impression. Nicole Gabriella Scipione delivers a near-acrobatic performance-balancing vulnerability, wit, and remarkable emotional range. The film explores identity, memory, and human connection through striking visual poetry and writing that feels both intelligent and alive. Every moment feels intentional and true, with small gestures carrying deep emotional weight. A quiet triumph that rewards close attention-this team clearly poured their hearts and souls into creating something unforgettable and profoundly moving.

lovely short film

I very much enjoyed this sweet, powerful short film. The script was insightful and sincere, unique and moving. I empathized with the main character, and believed in her relationship with her sister. I was drawn into their dilemma. Both of these performances were truthful and honest. The art class scene was hilarious, and a nice change of pace, with a great cameo by Silas Weir Mitchell. All elements of the film seemed very professional: smart, concise script, well lit cinematography, clear and focused direction, etc. The final scene was very poignant. Overall, it seemed a labor of love by all involved, and was an enjoyable watch.

Highly recommend, very moving short film

From playful, sisterly antics to moments of grief and raw emotion, this film shows some of the most intimate, tender moments a relationship can have. Play Me Like That movingly portrays a bond between two sisters. I could feel the history behind Slipper and Crescent, as well as their friendship. I love the blend of more intense dialogue between the sisters woven in with light-hearted dancing and laughter.

The character, Slipper, played by Nicole Gabriella Scipione is especially captivating. Slipper possesses a child-likeness that contrasts with her sister's more practical personality. Slipper is whimsical, passionate, earnest. It's really her story I was brought into, I could feel her longing.

The film is so expertly written and so beautifully acted it immediately pulled me in. It was poetic, heartfelt, sad yet peaceful. I highly recommend Play Me Like That!!

Gorgeous short film

This moving film beautifully explores the bond of sisterhood. It's quiet moments and honest conversations are powerful and authentic - it's a very touching and accurate portrayal. A talented actress, Nicole Scipione presents a script that is nuanced and delicate, funny and raw, whimsical without ever being trite. The direction brings the gorgeous poetic dialogue to life in something that is next door to realism. Lovely performances all around - Alina Phelan particularly shines in her roll, and she and Scipione have a lovely chemistry together. This is a touching, intimate portrait of shared pain, resilience, and the strength of familial love.

A Beautifully Rendered Dramedy

Skillfully and sensitively directed by Julianna Robinson, Play Me Like That is both affecting and, at times, quite funny, with a powerhouse lead performance by Nicole Gabriella Scipione and an impressive supporting cast, featuring Alina Phelan, Silas Weir Mitchell, Pamela Shaddock and Onahoua Rodriguez - all doing distinguished work as well. The chemistry between Scipione and Phelan as sisters is palpable, and Mitchell has a scene-stealing turn as an unapologetic jerk. In addition, Robinson and the production team deserve particular praise for the superbly curated soundtrack, which manages to support the emotional heft of the piece without ever being intrusive. This is an excellent, richly rewarding short film which deserves to find a wide audience.

Two Thumbs Up

The film titled, "Play Me Like That" was a work of art.

It was filed with lots of emotion.

It touched on a serious subject, but through creativity and humor the message did shine through.

The acting was suburb and each character nailed their part.

The characters all played off of one another and Nicole's diverse acting skills were terrific.

She showed so many emotions from happy to sad.

The scene where the actors were in the artist studio was tastefully done. Just enough skin was tastefully shown to not distract from the message in the studio scene.

In conclusion, I feel this film was a masterpiece. The fact it was a short film was even more amazing.

I feel the parts that each actor portrayed fit them and their personalities immensely.

I enjoyed this film and look forward to more of Nicole's work in the future.

I give this film two thumbs up.

This tender, whimsical short film explores the complex layers of sisterhood, longing, and love. With moments that are laugh out loud funny and also deeply moving, the film balances its emotional core with a vibrant city backdrop, quirky, yet relatable characters, and poetic narration that will linger long after. At the center is the radiant Nicole Gabriella Scipione, writer and lead, whose performance is breathtaking. She brings raw vulnerability and warmth to the screen, portraying a woman caught between dreams and the beauty of acceptance. An honest and emotionally resonant piece. A celebration of family, promises, and the truths we must face. It's a film worth watching more than once.

'Play Me Like That' is a powerful short that explores sisterhood, sacrifice, and love with care and depth. Scipione delivers a standout performance that feels deeply authentic. Her emotion is captivating, and she carries the story with grace and honesty. Every moment she is on screen feels real and lived in.

The dynamic between the sisters is both tender and complex. The film is beautifully shot, with music that enhances each emotional beat. This is a heartfelt and memorable piece that leaves a lasting impression.

Funny and Heartwarming

Very enjoyable, beautifully shot film. Being the youngest of two older sisters, watching the dynamics "play" out between these two sisters was so relatable to me. Play Me Like That definitely takes you on a beautiful journey of navigating love, joy, broken promises, loss, and acceptance. I would love to see this made into a full blown feature film where we could learn even more of what drives and motivates the sisters and see them get to explore the supporting characters in their world a bit more. That said, you'll definitely go on a very satisfying ride, have some laughs along the way, and even learn a few things about yourself and perhaps your own sibling dynamics.

Pitch Perfect

It is rare the short film you encounter that enraptures you every moment, right up until it quickly, too quickly, concludes. Left me wanting so much more. The performances are so good you forget they are performances at all. I resonated deeply with the raw emotions on display in the film, and yet it was as if my own emotions were clarified so well, the movie felt truer than true. A feeling of, "Oh, that's what my heart wanted to say!" There are so many kinds of longing. I thank the filmmaker for exploring this particular flavor, and I hope we see much more from her. Her voice is pitch perfect!

Lovely Study of Two Sisters

This is a beautifully made short film. Excellent direction and great performances from the whole cast. It is poignant and touching and surprising.

These sisters have an exceptionally strong bond that is so believable that when trouble hits -- I don't want to give too much away -- the rift in their relationship is also very real and hits you in the heart.

Written prose, poetry and graphic arts are used as metaphors in this piece to very nice effect..especially the in the surprising yet very satisfying ending.

And stay tuned for the entire cast and crew getting their dance moves on during the final credits.. Fun!

Charming, Quirky, Hilarious

Play Me Like That is the perfect combination of humor and deeply touching emotion. Simultaneously hilarious and moving, if the laughs take a break, prepare to embrace the family drama and the tissue box. How Nicole Gabriella Scipione manages to fit so much laughter, vulnerability, and tenderness into such a short film, is astonishing, illustrating an ability to pack every scene with meaning. The cast's acting is believable and masterful, and the Chemistry between Scipione and Alina Phelan is remarkable. The pair, along with Silas Weir Mitchell and Pamela Shaddock, shine under the impeccable direction of Julianna Robinson. Don't miss this charming tale of learning to live and laugh through life's inevitable complexities.

Heartfelt

This film touched me to my core. It feels rare to see a film now-a-days that resonates with you so deeply you're left pondering the themes long after you've finished the move but this is definitely one of those films!! Absolutely amazing. I hope to see this film go even further or even turn into a full feature film.

beautifully made short film study of sisters

"Play Me Like That" is a rare short film that crams a feature's worth of experience into a brief 24 minutes of screen time, giving a glimpse into the epic attempts of two sisters to navigate frustrated dreams. This complicated sibling relationship is layered with richness by screenwriter (and key cast member) Nicole Gabriella Scipione, whose character is both free-spirited and winsome, teetering on the brink of an abyss that others hint is of her own making. Her too-calm sister, a foil played tenderly by Alina Phelan, tries to moderate her sibling while yearning for the courage to emulate her. Both manage to woo the audience to stay close in spite of increasingly volatile emotions.

It's an insightful microcosm, helmed by Julianna Robinson who balances the pathos of the theme with the script's comedic relief, giving Silas Weir Mitchell (who also produced), Pamela Shaddock, and Onahoua Rodriguez moments to shine. With accomplished cinematography by Matthew Kohnen and a surprising wealth of music, this production by Scipione, with producer Samantha Curley of Level Ground Productions and Mitchell's Phantom Limbs Plays & Pictures, realizes the beauty of the short film format, and, like the best of them, deserves repeated viewings.

Are Love's Labors Lost?

Play Me Like That is a beautiful portrait of sisterhood and sacrifice. Slipper and Crescent take you on a modern hippies' journey that tackles family ties, living life fearlessly and full of zest, and giving of yourself wholly and the vulnerability that comes with it.

This film is simultaneously uplifting and heart wrenching mixed in between laugh out loud moments of wit and human foibles. Phelan and Scipione give moving and raw performances as sisters Crescent and Slipper with an incredible supporting cast rounding out the rich array of emotional nuances. The storytelling is poetic and whimsical, and it is truly worth watching.

Masterfully Crafted Film

Play Me Like That is such a moving film. It touches on themes of connection, loss, and acceptance. In one moment, I was laughing until my belly hurt, and before I knew it, I was wiping my eyes dry. It was funny, tender, and touching, in equal measure. Nicole Gabriella Scipione's writing is tight and masterful; she doesn't waste a single line. Her acting is believable, top-notch, and blends so well with her co-star Alina Phelan. The inclusion of seasoned veterans Pamela Shaddock and Silas Weir Mitchell is an incredible addition; their roles are so well played and add layers of depth and humor to an already brilliant film.

Beautifully Crafted Love Letter to Art Through Sisterly Love

This treasure of a short film is acted and directed brilliantly. The two leads, Nicole Gabriella Scipione and Alina Phelan, give us a performance filled with great vulnerability and honesty, so much so that you'd think they are sisters in real life. This film made me ponder familial love, what we are willing to give and what we expect from it (even if not consciously). It reminds me that people we feel most comfortable with are the ones we share the biggest emotions and with whom we carry the most unspoken between. The characters, script and melodic pacing rapidly waxes and wanes between love, devotion and sadness. The film also brings poetry, literature, visual art and music, carefully crafted within; making this film a love letter to art itself and what inspires us to create. Highly recommend!

A Tender Ode to the Unconventional Soul

A tender and refreshingly honest portrait of an unconventional soul, the short film "Play Me Like That" captures the quiet complexities of artistry, isolation, and the profound need to be understood. It thoughtfully explores the rarely depicted emotional terrain of an outsider artist at a crossroads, as she navigates a world that often dismisses what it cannot easily define.

At the heart of this moving piece is Nicole Scipione's superb and heartfelt portrayal of Slipper. Her performance is nothing short of heartwarming, bringing a beautiful complexity and deep humanity to a character who is so often relegated to the margins of storytelling. Scipione ensures that Slipper is never a caricature but a fully realized, misunderstood individual whose unique way of seeing the world is her greatest strength. It is a genuine privilege to see a character like this represented with such empathy and depth, a portrayal that feels both rare and necessary.

What unfolds is a film that takes you on a journey of the heartbreaking and hopeful, as our protagonist uses her artistic spirit to communicate, connect, and ultimately come to terms with her place in the world.

You wanna talk good acting?

Thanks to the filmmakers for not spoon-feeding us everything they think we need to know. There is some mystery to the story, some stuff we're left to ponder on our own, and that suited me just fine. The film is beautifully shot--for example, there's a circling dolly sequence worthy of the finest big-studio cinematographers and directors. And you wanna talk good acting? Look no further! Throughout the movie, especially in the climactic art studio scene, the two leads absolutely knock it out of the park. To quote a much better reviewer than I: real human emotion is still the best special effect.

A tapestry of frienship

I felt the love and beauty of this friendship in a powerful way watching this film. It was both tender, compelling, believable and sad all in the same film. I liked all the characters. The sisters liked each other and had a believable relationship doing things that sisters and or friends would do together. The girls make hard decisions together and put their hearts out there for others to see. The story made me confront my own insecurities and fears. This film is worth every minute. Find out how to be there when your friend grieves loss and is hurt beyond words. Learn how to live well and love well.

Raw and Emotional Journey

A wonderful short film that packs the same emotional punch as a full feature length film. Beautifully directed, with top notch acting and a gorgeous and perfectly pitched soundtrack, the film takes us on a journey of two sisters as they traverse a poignant terrain that few could speak directly about. Full of truly raw and honest moments of humanity, I am grateful I was able to experience this film. Highly recommend.
