This Fool

I saw this on my Disney+ home page (UK - it's on Hulu in the States), knew nothing about it, and decided to have a look. That day I watched half of season one! I'll be sad when I reach the end of season two, that's for sure.

I'm white and British, I know nothing of the lives of Mexicans in LA, but there aren't many comedies that have made me laugh as much and made me care about the characters so much too. Even the most far-fetched storylines feel believable, which is thanks to some strong writing and great performances.

I sincerely hope it'll keep going for more seasons. Please let it be so.

I am not Mexican or Latina, but so enjoyed This Fool - and all his family and friends. It was like being a fly on the wall and seeing absolutely everything - good, bad and ugly - which is usually seen as funny by someone in everyone's family! Watching the changes and growth in the group was a lot of fun and rewarding.

The one problem I had was with Julio's age. 31? Really? Are we fudging just a bit?

Please let there be more seasons in the offing. We need them, so we can laugh - at ourselves through them.

The actors are so good, the scripts so tight and funny, from a perspective I never knew I would love so much. Every character is so clearly defined and interesting and their stories shine a light on things I never considered. The visuals and art direction really shine.

But, most of all, it's really, really funny.

From first impressions I thought this was gonna be stupid but it's more like stupid funny. Julio has the quintessential Mexican American look. And all the regular American ailments. He has emotional issues with Jessie, lactose intolerant and was bullied by Luis is his bully older cousin who now has to learn from Julio. The whole thing is fun and it has a good story line with interesting dialogue and Luis's beatboxing is not bad.

The best thing is that this show is intelligent and treats the homie culture with respect!

I wasn't sure what to expect but it is hilarious especially as you get to know the characters. The characters are built with good depth throughout the series and (I hope) there's another season to go deeper on some of them. The chemistry between Luis and Julio is exactly like real cousins. Everyone has real, but funny flaws. The situations are also based in real life but have that funny spin. I was very surprised by this show and hope to see more.
