Shockwave: Surviving North America's Biggest Disaster

Overall a decent summary of the problem which West coasters need to be highly aware of. However I was surprised by the lack of a reference to the highly destructive Fukushima tsunami. Videos of that disaster would have brought the message home very forcefully. Also not mentioned in this movie is that if you're on a coast across the ocean far from where an earthquake has occurred, you will not necessarily feel the shocks of that earthquake and therefore have little or no warning of an approaching tsunami. The documentary also failed to mention that before a tsunami arrives, the ocean appears to pull away from the shore. In their curiosity people will want to explore the exposed beach, making themselves extremely vulnerable to the tsunami when it ultimately arrives in full force. It's vital that information about this phenomenon be included in public education programs.

I don't live in the US any more, moved to Australia in 1987 and glad I did with all the violence there now. This doco as very interesting but I wonder how many people will do the right thing when the big one comes. I actually was there in when Mt. St. Helens erupted and it was complete chaos. My wife and I we're locked out of a tavern on the way to Moscow, Idaho. We had to drive 100 miles with thick ash falling. Luckily we made it. Also have been through a couple of earthquakes and here in Australia we were in a 100 year flood where the water reach 12feet high. Having lived through all of this we are now very conscious of survival.

We have visited the places mentioned in the doco and glad we decided not to live in that area.

I hope more people watch this doco and hope you do an updated one-off this subject. The time will come..... and so will th BIG ONE.

This is great! Lots of information but left out Victoria and Vancouver? Wouldn't they be destroyed in such an event and with such high population you would think they would talk about what to do for those citizens? How do people in such populated areas cope? Or could they? All I am is more worried for family there....
