Gene Fallaize, the director behind Kevin Spacey's latest film, Control, says casting the actor while he was awaiting trial for sexual abuse a "risk worth taking." On Wednesday, Spacey was acquitted of sexual assault charges in a London court after a four-week trial. Last October, Spacey faced a Manhattan court for sexual battery charges stemming from a 1986 incident; he was found not liable. As allegations against Spacey, which date back to 2017, began to trickle in, the Academy Award winner's career began to suffer. Most notably, the actor was fired from House of Cards after reports alleging inappropriate behavior towards several young men on set.

Spacey now has a couple of projects in the works, including Fallaize's Control, an indie thriller also starring Lauren Metcalfe and Mark Hampton. Control follows British Home Secretary Stella Simmons as she drives home one night while engaging in an affair with the Prime Minister.

The director behind Ray Stevenson’s final film has written a heartfelt farewell letter to the star, who died unexpectedly this week. Scroll down to read in full.

Péter Soós was flying home from the Cannes Film Festival when he was informed of Stevenson’s death aged 58.

The director had worked with the Rrr, Thor, Vikings and Rome actor on historical drama 1242 Gateway to the West. Stevenson replaced Kevin Spacey in the role and his scenes wrapped in Hungary back in February. Above is an image of Stevenson on set with Soós.

“On Monday night, on the way home by plane from Cannes, I received the news that you had left us. Only now can I find the words to speak,” wrote Soós. “I have realised the overwhelming weight of the responsibility that has fallen upon me with our work together on what is surely your last feature film.

The late Irish actor Ray Stevenson was quite an expert at playing outsize heavies and larger-than-life characters. It's no wonder that he appeared in films like "Punisher: War Zone," the most enjoyably violent movie in the Marvel Comics canon, or "Rrr" a maximalist piece of Telugu cinema that felt like several action films crammed into one. In the latter, Stevenson was particularly theatrical, snarling melodramatically as a colonialist villain. Stevenson stops just short of actually twirling his mustache in that film.

Stevenson passed away on May 22, 2023, at the age of 58 leaving behind a colorful legacy of villains from widely seen franchise films and TV shows.

Born George Raymond Stevenson on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, he harbored acting ambitions from an early age. He enrolled at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, from where he eventually obtained his graduate degree.

From there, he kicked off a career in British and European TV, starting with 1993’s A Woman’s Guide To Adultery, in which he had a small role as a journalist. He racked up credits in a number of TV series well known to audiences, including Peak Practice, Holby City and The Bill.

But on the small screen, his true big break was HBO’s Rome, in which he played the cheery, violent Titus Pollo. It raised his profile, and he began to score bigger parts both on TV and the big screen.

Stevenson reportedly died in Italy on Sunday (May 21), though no other details of his death have been revealed.

A date has been set for Kevin Spacey’s high-profile UK trial on charges of sex offences.

The American Beauty star’s trial will start on 28 June, it was revealed in Southwark Crown Court today, which is where the trial will take place for around four weeks.

Spacey appeared via video link from an undisclosed location, according to Reuters, where the 63-year-old only spoke to confirm his name and could hear the proceedings during a circa-15-minute hearing. He has been granted unconditional bail prior to the trial.

Spacey has previously pleaded not guilty to 12 charges relating to alleged offences against four men, which are said to have taken place between 2001 and 2013.
