The first season through about episode 17 is based off of the manga, the show then had a separate story which is episode 18 of season one through season two. Book of Circus, Book of Murder, and Book of Atlantic are stories taken from the manga, and would place after episode 17 of the first season if the viewer wanted to watch in the most chronological order possible.

The second season ends with after a battle for Ciel between Claude, Hannah, and Sebastian; Sebastian kills Ciel to avoid Claude of Hannah taking the child's soul. Alois, who's soul is bound to Hannah, and is possessing Ciel, begs Hannah to grant him one last wish ,then she could take ownership of Alois' soul, to revive Ciel. She does so, taking Alois' soul which is reunited with his brother's. She then kills Claude, dragging him into Hell. Ciel, then wakes up at the manner, everything is exactly like when we first met Ciel in the first episode of the first season. While he gets dressed by Sebastian, he opens his eyes to reveal that he has become a demon. He asks Sebastian to invite Lizzy over for one final dance, she arrives and the two dance while Sebastian leaves to inform the other characters that Ciel has died. It is implied that Ciel kills Lizzy before departing from the manner. Sebastian and Ciel take a carriage to an unknown location, arriving at a cliff. Sebastian picks up Ciel, then plummets he and Ciel off the cliff. Their fate is unknown.
