After watching a few episodes, it was great, and then the interview part is significant, too, because they show their real feelings and struggles. But it went off track and heavily focused on one person, Alexa. As for others, they indeed show their emotion and being real, but sadly they are put aside for one person, Alexa. It's on the production team to make it better, and those people involved in it deserve the same attention. Hopefully that the production team will improve on this issue next season.

Out of absolute boredom, I ran across this show (being billed as a documentary) however it was less documentary and more of a reality show about a group of deaf students who spend all their time instagramming and sleeping around. I imagine the producers searched for the most attractive group they could find and then asked them to talk about their sex lives, which seem to consist of a rotation of sleeping with one another, except for the one bisexual girl and her lesbian gf. I watched the entire season, hoping it would get better but it was entirely more of the same, just a group of 20yr olds drinking, screwing around, and eating ramen noodles. Most the females were fairly attractive, with the exception of the one "elite" blonde who looked entire like a stripper in training. If you're looking for actual information on deaf culture, this is NOT the place to find it.

I found this in Netflix's documentary section because deaf culture fascinates me. I quickly found out, however, that this is a reality show, not a documentary. The filmmakers seems to go out of their way to simplify relationships between students (mainly by focusing on just 5-6 students in a school of 1000) and enhancing the drama between them.

That being said, the characters the students play are interesting, and I ended up watching the whole season. I also learned about deaf culture, though my time would probably have been better spent just watching Cheyenna's Youtube videos.

Party college must be the same everywhere. Some mildly developed characters and viewpoints.

Is this accurate of the deaf, college community? Kinda, but no, it's not any more accurate than the rest of the hearing, community that you see on reality tv.

Is it fun to watch? Yes. It's great reality tv, and I hope these kids had a lot of fun and got paid well.

The best part, is that these, reality tv stars, are able to act better than many other reality tv stars. Their body language is wonderful to watch.

The sexual intrigue, is great and well done.

The title is misleading in that it's supposed to be a documentary on the deaf college life. But this entire series is on dating. College is not all dating. What about your major, your job, your goals, etc...?

I couldn't finish the entire series because it was getting tiresome dealing with the topic of dating.

A reality show about students at Gallaudet University shouldn't be treated this way. Whether or not you liked the people they chose to cast, it won't change anything about it now. Obviously they aren't going to focus on things like their major and what they do for work. It's a REALITY SHOW. We know it's not all real, it can't be. But for everyone to get mad about it being focused on dating and showing the people who suck, just watch something else. It's for entertainment, as well as to educate people about what it is like being deaf. They're all in their 20s, and they do normal things that people their age do. The reasoning for these other reviews are just dumb- to put it bluntly. If you don't want to watch a reality show, then why did you? Yes, it has its flaws, but in the end it's a fun show and these other reviews should obviously just stick to animal planet or a nice college lecture on Youtube. Clearly, they missed the point. The editors and film crew had to pick interesting parts of these students lives while filming for however long they did. They aren't going to show them doing homework every night, or their conversations with professors. They're gonna show the drama because, as I already said numerous times, the show is meant to entertain people.

As a reality show, it's a quick watch and pretty entertaining. They focused on a couple characters more than others and they could've improved on that, but how does anyone expect them to improve on it if they only watch a couple episodes and rate it one star?

I felt curious. Because, in the pandemic, I watched the series when I was an international special student in the university undergraduate program. I was right there yet I didn't know what look like normal Gallaudet. The off-campus life of Gallaudet university was an interesting experience for me. But the movies only spotted the personal lives of some students. I didn't understand why named "Deaf U." I think it must be named "Deaf S" or something which shows these movies are stories of young Deaf people. Not stories of Deaf university. A lot of reality shows follow demand so they tend to be secular. The series is no different. The aspects to be evaluated for me about the series are many young students accepted to join and show their lives.

... but instead it wasn't even clear if it was with actual real people or fake with actors. The way it was set up was weird. And the focus on dating is bizarre, why not focus on the rest of university life? I wasn't able to watch it beyond the two bros in the gym discussing female classmates like they were pieces of meat.

But yay for deaf representation in film? #missedopportunity

People expecting this to be a typical documentary series are bound to be a little disappointed. This was clearly catered to a hearing audience to bring in more ratings and hopefully more seasons. However, reality TV bashing aside, it was a great show. It was fun, fast paced, and a little emotional. All of the cast members are so relatable, and they're what make the show worth watching. Although it could have been a little more inclusive (international Deaf students, black Deaf women, more "Elite" Deaf POC) that leaves room for new opportunities for future seasons with new cast members. This is a great show to try and get more people to start talking and becoming more educated on Deaf culture.

I came expecting a wholesome show with a fresh setting and I got the same old trash with a fresh setting...

I was so excited for this docuseries. Living right outside DC, I'm familiar with Gallaudet and the city. But it was shallow, plodding and just downright uninteresting. And what was with "The Elites"? Probably something also shallow and ridiculous but I wish they would have addressed it more. I wish they would have put a bigger finish on the end but maybe they are hoping for a 2nd season. Doubt I'll be watching.

I really like this show, after 5 minutes you forget they are Deaf and mute and that's the beauty of the show, it makes you see beyond and removes all the prejudice you had. They're life are just regular college life. I loved all the characters beside Alexa.

The show was pretty wack. Especially the part where they absolutely flamed the waiter for putting a bottle of water between them on the table. He seemed really nice and handsome. This is basically a low quality reality show with a cast that happens to be deaf. Pretty vapid and stupid over all. But at least there's deaf representation in trash media now. Progress of a kind I suppose.

I thought it would be a wholesome dating show. But it ended up like jersey shore.

It was all about Alexa's wild adventure. She was a little to full of herself...

As a deaf person, I found this show extremely offensive. The show portrays deaf culture as hedonistic, hollow, and stupid. It portrays Gallaudet as some party school, instead of one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the world. I cried with frustration several times while watching this show. It was made my hearing people and it shows. Hurt doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. Our first big shot at real representation in mainstream media and they totally blew it. I haven't seen a show about deaf people since and I don't think it was a coincidence. The producers and director had an opportunity to do something really special, but they decided to exploit and degrade a marginalized community instead. Sickening really.

This is a reality show about deaf college students crushing on each other and sleeping around. The soundtrack overlapping each scene is distracting and wack. There are not a lot of POC represented in this series; however, there are two black guys who seem to be interested in dating the white girls on campus. Most of the guys are interseted in one of the main characters, Alexa. I wasted my time watching this mess.

We can tell if it is script or document so therefore it is scripted and those actors and actresses are AWFUL!

If you're are hoping of a documentary then please avoid and do not waste time on such boring filth! Agreed and thought as episodes went on expected it better NOT. Deaf casts amazing no doubt. Storyline purely based on dating lifestyle. Don't know what the producers were thinking on its target audience. Partying, drinking gossiping, dating, flirting... Happens only at this place, deary me.

Needed more focus on experience, emphasis, pros and cons of Gallaudet University. For sure it'll provide substantial, considerable awareness those pondering of applying or are studying in the campus. In turn will uplift the Deaf community. Apart from the elites what else?
