I've literally watched every other movie on prime at this point and this is what was left. The plot is mid. The edits and the way scenes are cut... it's hyperactive and chaotic, but not in a good way.
This movie feels like it interrupted a midlife crisis ego stroke. It's an hour and a half of the writer/director staring at himself in a viewfinder and saying things that are supposed to demonstrate how unstable his character is, but are more like an earful of angry babble from a jersey shore cast member who got a drink poured down his shirt. Oh, but there's more. Charlie is so upset he got cheated on and then ignored... he made so many videos talking to himself and doing things people thought 50 years ago that other people having a mental break down would do, that the only thing left was for him to randomly crossdress (?) and force a kid in a grocery store to call him Charlene. What a statement. Wow. I thought we were getting past using people who do things like crossdress for cheap plot points. Not over here in Charlie's world though.
I'll be the first to admit, I don't know what goes into making a movie, so I let it play through because if I chose it, I should live with the consequences. I don't know how to make a movie that translates into something watchable, but I know now how not to. I'm not saying don't waste your time, but maybe smoke some cr*ck or snort some c*ke while you do. Booze is not gonna cut it...And I think Charlie would probably agree with that.
