Nice show but the kids are a pain in the @ss

I love this show, I've been binging it from the start. It's very a very entertaining easy to watch show. The only thing that bothers me from the first episode into the 4th season that there is hardly any development in the behavior of her daughters. They are both a pain in the ass. Of course kids can be challenging at that age, but they just keep being selfish and irritated about the smallest thing all the time. And Pørni just takes it all in. On the one hand it's good to show how kids that age go through hard times emotionally but you can exaggerate it. For the rest I love the story line, the portrait of the Norwegian way of life, etc.

Pernille is great. Her kids are a-holes

Great show, solid acting, but the two daughters are walking ads for abortion. They're both so terrible, it borders on parody. Pernille being everyone's doormat ia somewhat tiring as well.

I still can't understand Sigrid's love for that narcissist pos deadbeat father. It makes no sense, he's repellant.

I'm only into the second season, do I'm hoping these flaws get repaired.

Wonderful performance from the lead, so that's something. The look and feel of the show is fantastic as well.

I'm going to stick with it, and see how it goes.

But man, that Sigrid character is really getting on my nerves.

Can relate..

As a divorced, single mom in my mid 40's, this one really hit home.. I believe Pernilles struggles, they are all recognisable. Loved the series, looking forward for season two.

The Norwegians and Swedish are making great shows and movies because they are real and people can relate!

I love how the Norwegians and Swedish are doing the opposite of the Americans etc because they cast realistic looking people, and everyone isn't perfect, and the writing is realistic and real! I believe what makes a good show into a GREAT show is the real factor because when its realistic people are transported into what they are watching. Yet, when its fantasy its all just make believe kid stuff and its just not interesting. The reason most film makers use some fantasy with realism is because they use the fantasy writing and casting etc to make up for the fact that their writing is subpar and their style isn't good so they make up for it with silly fantasy plots and pretty faces but bad actors. The main actress isn't the most beautiful woman, but there is something about her, and it shines really bright! She is still beautiful, but she is beautiful on both the inside and outside, a healthy mix, whilst most of the time, actresses that play her part are just pretty on the outside and don't have the personality nor the acting talent this actress clearly has! She is a real actress and she is going to continue to do well. All of them are great actresses/actors! Bravo.

The best family drama series I've ever seen

I'm convinced this show could go on forever, honestly. The acting is superb, the writing is great, and the characters (except the ex Finn and the bad parents Pernille meets as a worker in CPS) are so likeable. It's also a very realistic portrait of a Norwegian modern family, and there is moments of joy, sadness, fun all mixed up in a way that creates a great drama.

Especially the scenes between Pernille and her headstrong daughters are so fun to watch.

This is a cool, funny and heartwarming show. Even my fiancé who's a tough motorcycle guy loves this show.

DO NOT watch if: -You're offended by swearing/foul language -You have very conservative family values.

Great writing

Its hilarious, awkward and gut wrenchingely sad, and the show manages to send you through those emotions in span of 30 minutes EVERY episode! You fall in love with the characters immediately. Really good so far!

A likeable show.

Good story. The acting is top notch. Henriette Steenstrup and Nils Ole Oftebro at their best. Warm, and the setting and challenges will be familiar to most people. I will very much recommend this series.

Very relatable but daughters entitled brats who show no respect to mother

Enjoyed this series, but Pernille too servant-like to almost adult daughters. Respect parents- they give up a lot for you. Followed whole series through and Hannah particularly irritated me as entitled daughter. Maybe a Scandi thing, but be nice to people. Loved the dad and the whole relationship scenario, but in the end, what did Pernille have for herself? Spent a lot of time running after daughters and father. Very relatable character with all her foibles, but need as all parents to push back with kids. Time to grow up Hannah and Sigrid. Parenting is giving - up until certain age. After it becomes servitude.

Wonderful

Lovely dramedy. So down to earth with many relatable everyday issues. Henriette Stensrup is a genius!

Saw the whole series in 5 days. We're not known for many shows making it international but this one is easy to recommend. So glad Netflix bought the rights and stream it.

It gives you a good and warm feeling despite the tragedies and difficult situations. I also like a lot that the child welfare system always is in the background as it's the main characters workplace. It has had a lot of negative review. The actors have succeeded in bringing the characters to life. I've felt anger, happiness and sadness throughout the whole show.

Fun to watch, disappointing ending

As a norwegian, it was fun to watch this show. As a 32 year old man without kids, I feel like I got a good look into paranthood, or motherhood at least, and how it can be affected by work and romance life.

It's clear that the show is written by a woman, considering how focused it is on romance and tear-jerk. For my taste, the show should have focused more on norwegian humor, situations like awkward family dinners etc, like it does well sometimes. The suicide episode was completely unnecessary, and so was the ending.

The father is the best character, who will make you continue watch the show and sets homosexuls in a good light. The youngest daughter is the most annoying character, who warns heterosexual to use condom next time.

Responsibilities are death.

Still watching just to get angry for how kids can be badly spoiled and stupid mother giving everything like is her obligation. Very out of my way of raise kids like her way. Then how she can be "happy" being mistreated like piece of poop.

No bueno, most horrible way to tell the new kids of how to treat your parents. Completely not my way.

Translation in spanich latino, includes so many bad words and all the time, to the main character.

Too much disgrace to the mother.

It is interesting to get to know other cultures but I doubt that's the way Norwegians raise their kids.

I got surprised of the interest in religion. Contradiction for a little.

Porni is a treat to spend each episode with.

A wonderful look at a delightful, intelligent middle aged woman who copes and deals with a delightful assortment of kids, relatives, friends, co workers and a romantic possibility. I hope we get to see more seasons in the future.

A great series !

There seems to be a current trend for small-scale Nordic family drama series, and Pörni is yet another great one.

The opening scenes are brilliant!

It is easy to watch and follow, without being superficial; the characters have depth and as is often the case in Nordic drama, the older characters are allowed to be their age and show it, and still get to enjoy life and romance.

Beautiful.

There's the usual tropes of this kind of drama-series format : parent/child relationship, the challenges of parenting, romance in the mature years, living with grief.

Pörni does it all very well, effortlessly moving between heartfelt drama, everyday life and comic moments. Something the Nordics are amazing at.

The series is also brilliant at bringing together the particular mindsets and worldviews of three generations of characters.

Of course, we get to laugh at the teenagers and how impossible they are, but we also get to love them.

I have some reservation about the way the father is depicted: the usual trope of the well-meaning, charming but unreliable and ultimately inadequate father...I feel this has become a recurring character-type in many contemporary series, not just Nordic, and I don't think it's always necessary to have a crap father-character in order to showcase how brilliant the mother is.

As a character, Pörni is a great, competent, loving mother, and she would still be all of that, even if the father of her kids was a great father as well.

I absolutely love that Pörni enjoys the occasional joint with her father, and it's presented as something cosy and relaxed.

When will this happen in a Swedish family-drama ?!

And it is also a pleasure to see a mature daughter-father relationship that is loving, supportive and driving some of the comedy in the series.

I loved that it ended in a way that does credit to the entire series, and I very much look forward to Season 2.

Made with a big heart

Henriette Steenstrup is a well known Norwegian comedian. I was expecting Pørni to be a comedy, with lot of punchlines. But here she shows that she has a lot more to offer. In addtion to having the lead in this tv-serie, has has also written the manus. Very impressing. This heartfelt and moving serie has a lot to offer. Everyday life with humour, drama and very beliveable situations. Steenstrup is excellent in this serie as the mom who takes on struggles in her everyday life as they come along. But the rest of the cast also help to lift this tv-serie above everything else that are on at the moment. Looking forward to the second season.

Series about a woman for women.

Reading the 10/10 reviews, one would think this would be a fantastic series.

It's a good series but I think it aims at a women's audience?

I found it a little difficult to relate to the character.

Maybe because I am a man?

I don't know.

The character is a woman working for child protective services but has a few problems of her own as a mother.

She tries her best, given the challenging situation she has at home.

There's a mixture of drama and a little comedy but I'd say it's mostly drama.

If you are a single mother with a challenging job, trying to negotiate both, then there's a chance you'd relate to this series.
