Exclusive: QC Entertainment, the company behind Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, has completed the Victoria, BC shoot on horror film The Casket Girls with four major additions to the cast: Mike Colter (Evil), Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), Matt Frewer (Perry Mason), and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!).

As previously announced, Gabrielle Union leads the ensemble. Lennon also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Robert Ben Garant, his partner on Night at the Museum and numerous other projects, with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Justin Dyck (Anything for Jackson), who directed the film.

The Casket Girls is inspired by true events involving a group of young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s. Canadian film director Justin Dyck, who is best known for helming the critically acclaimed supernatural horror film Anything for Jackson, has set his next horror project. It's a movie called William, and we shared everything we know so far about it below.

William is being described as a sci-fi horror film. It's based on bestselling author Andrew Pyper's (Mason Coile) horror novel of the same name, which was optioned by Aperture Entertainment. The book was released back in September, and it's currently available to purchase on Amazon as a hardcover or eBook at different prices.

Dyck is signed on to direct the William film adaptation. He's currently working on another horror film as well. It's a movie called The Casket Girls starring Gabrielle Union. Pyper will co-write the screenplay for William with Chris Sivertson. In addition, principal photography is to take place in Canada. However, a production start date is unknown at the moment.

Justin G. Dyck has almost 40 directing credits to his name, and most of those credits have been on TV movie romances with titles like Christmas Wedding Planning, Christmas with a View, A Very Country Wedding, and Art of Falling in Love… but recently, Dyck has been shifting gears. In 2020, he brought us the supernatural horror movie Anything for Jackson (pictured above), which was released through the Shudder streaming service. He went on to contribute to episodes of Shudder’s Creepshow series. Last month, we heard he will be directing the horror film The Casket Girls, starring Gabrielle Union. Now, Deadline reports that Dyck will be directing the haunted house movie William for Aperture Entertainment.

Exclusive: Aperture Entertainment has optioned rights to bestselling author Andrew Pyper’s recently published novel William, with Justin Dyck set to direct.

Penned under Pyper’s sci-fi/thriller pen name Mason Coile, William hit store shelves September 3 via Putnam.

The author and Chris Sivertson will adapt the novel as a thriller to be shot in Canada.

A contained sci-fi horror film that blends the worlds of Ex Machina and The Amityville Horror, William is set in a timely haunted house story in which the haunting is AI.

The New York Times Book Review praised the novel, calling it “a cyber-horror tale that combines cerebrality and carnage … a twist on The Shining in which the house is haunted by a ghost in the machine. … Coile [elevates the genre] with meticulously unsettling prose and a knowing dissection of character that transcends stereotype.”

The ending of Shudder's 20202 paranormal horror movie Anything For Jackson leaves several questions about the Walsh family, Jackson, and the devil's involvement unanswered. Featuring a family willing to do anything they can to bring back their beloved grandson, it initially begins as a classic case of spirit transferance, but quickly transforms into a horrific tale of demonic entities and their hunt for a vessel. However, unlike most demonic possession movies, Anything For Jackson is driven by the desire to make contact with a deceased loved one.

In Anything For Jackson, elderly couple Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry (Julian Richings) are struggling to cope with the loss of their grandson Jackson, who was killed in a vehicular accident that left his mother wheelchair-bound. Audrey and Henry want to perform a satanic ritual to try and bring Jackson back, using the fetus growing inside Shannon, a kidnapped pregnant woman, as a vessel.

If you're a fan of Gabrielle Union, you'll be glad to know that this talented actress has just set her next project. It's a horror film titled The Casket Girls, and she will not only star but also produce.

QC Entertainment is the production company behind the movie. This company is best known for co-producing the hit psychological horror film Get Out. Justin Dyck, who you might recognize as the director of the 2020 supernatural horror flick Anything for Jackson, is signed on to direct. Justin Dyck, the director behind 2020 horror darling Anything for Jackson, has lined up his next horror feature, The Casket Girls. Deadline reports today that the new movie has found its star in Gabrielle Union.

The Casket Girls was written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum), with revisions by Keith Cooper (Anything for Jackson) & Dyck.

The story is inspired by a true story, the real-life Casket Girls of New Orleans. The moniker refers to the young women sent from France to New Orleans to become brides to French colonists in the early 1700s, bearing luggage resembling caskets. Because their arrival coincided with an uptick in the city’s murder rate, the girls were blamed and accused of being demons or vampires. The city imprisoned the girls in the attic of the Vatican-controlled Ursuline Convent, which still exists today.

It’s the precise type of historical tale that feels ripe for horror.

The writing duo of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant are best known for their work on comedies and family friendly projects: Reno 911!, Taxi (2004), The Pacifier, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Let’s Go to Prison, Balls of Fury, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Baywatch (2017), Night at the Museum, and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. But they’ve also written the horror comedy Hell Baby, and Garant has written the horror films The Veil and Jessabelle. So it’s not entirely off brand to hear that they wrote the initial screenplay for the upcoming horror film The Casket Girls, with Gabrielle Union (Breaking In) on board to star and executive produce.

Exclusive: Adam Goldworm’s Aperture Entertainment has signed Kyle McConaghy and Joe DeBoer, a Missouri filmmaking duo whose acclaimed horror thriller Dead Mail will soon have its Canadian premiere in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto Film Festival.

A mainstay on the genre festival circuit since its premiere this year at SXSW, Dead Mail has won a number of awards, including Best Film and Best Director at UK Fright Fest, and is currently rated 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Still in search of distribution, the film watches as an ominous help note finds its way to a 1980s post office, connecting a dead letter investigator to a kidnapped keyboard technician.

Principal photography has begun on “Plan C,” the feature directorial debut of Scott Anthony Cavalheiro, known for his acting role in “Schitt’s Creek.”

The film is currently shooting on location in the Greater Toronto Area and Windsor/Essex, with production scheduled to continue through August.

The crime thriller tells the story of siblings Clare and Danny on the run after a robbery gone awry. The film promises a mix of action and suspense, with car chases, difficult decisions and unexpected twists.

The cast features Claire Cavalheiro (“Man Seeking Woman”) and Daniel DeSanto (“Mean Girls”) in leading roles, with Hollywood veteran Vivica A. Fox rounding out the top-billed performers. Supporting cast includes Jamie Spilchuk (“Defining Moments”), Joris Jarsky (“Saw V”), Kris Holden-Ried and Kylee Evans (“Luckiest Girl Alive”).

Claire Cavalheiro and Scott Anthony Cavalheiro are producing under their Stained Tie Films banner, with Gerry Lattmann of The Dot Film Company serving as line producer.

Horror film “The Voices of Our Mother,” headlined by Sheila McCarthy (“Women Talking”), has wrapped principal photography.

The film is written and directed by Mark O’Brien, who is also an actor, with his most recent credit being Atom Egoyan’s Toronto and Berlinale selection “Seven Veils.” It tells the story of a family who is brought together when their matriarch falls ill, only to find that their lineage is connected by more than blood. The film was shot in Hamilton, Ontario.

The cast also includes Georgina Reilly (“Quantum Leap”), O’Brien, Carolina Bartzcak (“Painkiller”), Alex Ozerov-Meyer (“The Americans”), Anna Ferguson (“Lost Girl”) and Shawn Doyle (“Star Trek: Discovery”).

The film is produced by Canada’s Vortex Productions, a subsidiary of boutique distributor Vortex Media. This marks the second collaboration between O’Brien and Vortex Media who helped to finance and distribute the filmmaker’s Fantasia and Grimmfest-winning feature directorial debut “The Righteous.

The Fantasia International Film Festival will be celebrating its 25th edition as a virtual event accessible to audiences across Canada, with a

dynamic program of scheduled screenings and premieres, panels, and workshops running from August 5 through August 25, 2021, once again using the leading-edge platform created by Festival Scope and Shift72.

As the summer approaches, the festival will be following advice from local health authorities, with the possibility of also adding a range of flagship physical events to the lineup.

In his latest podcast/interview, host and screenwriter Stuart Wright talks to director Justin G Dyck about making the horror film Anything For Jackson, which is out now via Shudder.

After losing their only grandson, Jackson, in a car accident, grief-stricken Audrey (Sheila McCarthy) and Henry (Julian Richings), a doctor, kidnap Henry’s pregnant patient with the intention of performing a “reverse exorcism,” putting Jackson inside her unborn child. It doesn’t take long to figure out Jackson isn’t the only ghost the grandparents invited into their home. Now, it’s a race against time for the couple, as well as the pregnant woman, to figure a way out of the haunting they’ve set upon themselves.

After a successful festival run, Justin G. Dyck’s Anything for Jackson made its debut on Shudder earlier this month. Starring Julian Richings, Sheila McCarthy, and Konstantina Mantelos, the film is centered around a grieving pair of grandparents who kidnap a young woman in hopes of transferring the soul of their deceased grandson into her soon-to-be born child, and as expected, things don’t exactly go according to plan.

Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Dyck about his latest directorial effort, and he discussed his collaborative process with the film’s writer, Keith Cooper, bringing on his talented ensemble for Anything for Jackson, the inspiration behind the film’s collection of spooky spectres, and more.
