The Gardener (Le Jardinier), not to be confused with the Gary Daniels/Robert Bronzi film, reunites Jean-Claude Van Damme and David Charhon who directed him in The Last Mercenary. And like that film, it’s an action comedy, but with the comedy dialed up a bit higher, and the action a bit more on the brutal side.

This time out, The Muscles From Brussels plays Leo, a man who simply wants to tend to plants on the large estate owned by Serge Shuster Special Adviser to the President of France. Nobody seems quite sure how he ended up with the position, and they think he’s a bit odd, but he does a good job so they’ve let him stay on.

After starring in a number of lackluster VOD movies, action legend Jean-Claude Van Damme returns to action comedy—the combination of genres that has rejuvenated his recent phase of acting career—with The Gardener. Taking the role of the titular greenskeeper with a secret past, Van Damme delivers a brutal brand of justice through his fists and deadpan humor. It would have made for more entertaining fare if co-lead Michael Youn’s comedic flair had complemented him well instead of mostly comprising annoying caricatures, which goes as far as impersonating a Nazi officer. While the veteran action star looks to be in great shape for a man reaching his mid-60s, the majority of the action sequences involving him are badly shot, wasted by incorporating too many cuts and shaky cams. Go right back to the start of the year, and Jason Statham got things off to a rollicking start with The Beekeeper. In it, The Statham not only beat seven shades out of people, but also tended his hive and was your go-to man for fresh honey.

Now, Jean-Claude Van Damme is getting in on the act with Le Jardinier, which I will happily translate into English for you: The Gardener.

This is described as an action comedy, from director David Charhon. It shot last year, and Michael Youn, Nawell Madani, Kaaris, Matthias Quiviger, Jerrome Le Banner and Carla Paquin in its cast as well.

The plot? Well, it involves a bit of work around the back of the house. Van Damme is Leo, the gardener for a man called Serge.

This is ready for a debut in France streaming on Pv in January, though strangely not worldwide - only in France with no US release confirmed or set yet. Even though we all thought Jcvd had retired from acting, especially from any action movies, he continues to appear in movies all the time and take on action roles anyway. The movie stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Léo, an enigmatic gardener whose skills extend far beyond landscape maintenance. The story draws viewers into a murky affair of political elimination orchestrated by high level government. Serge holds a state secret. He, his family, and his gardener Leo appear on a government death list. They attempt to devise a plan to stay alive.

Charles Bronson look-alike Robert Bronzi and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who followed in the footsteps of Mr. T for the A-Team movie, star in the action thriller The Caretaker, which Deadline reports is now filming in Nevada. Also in the cast are Avaryana Rose (Bitter Souls), Daniel Baldwin (John Carpenter’s Vampires), Paul Logan (The Horde), wrestler Jacob “Madman Fulton” Southwick, Mark Justice (The Twisters), Brett Benowitz (Alabama Rose), Alex Trumble (The Search for Secret Santa), Leah Voysey (Terrifier 2), and newcomers Lane Griffith and Neva Leoncini. Exclusive: When the CW announced in 2022 that it was cancelling DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow after seven seasons, actor-writer Adam Tsekhman, who played Gary Green, and writer-director Andrew Kasch, who was attached as an editor and director, admit it was a blow.

But the pair, who had become friends over the course of their six years on the superhero show, did not rest idle for long as they came together to collaborate on a whacky short film called The Gummy Bear.

“In our depression, Andrew had the idea for the short and invited me over, and we did it for nothing,” says Canadian actor Tsekhman.

The actor stars in the psychedelic short as a man who is given an experimental gummy bear as a freebie with his regular cannabis delivery. One bite sends him on an unexpected mind-blowing trip. Kasch mixes live action with a kaleidoscope of different animation styles for the trip scenes.

Paris and Los Angeles-based Other Angle Pictures has scored further sales on its Jean Claude Van Damme-powered action comedy The Gardener (Le Jardinier) and released a first-look image.

The film has sold to Falcon for the Middle East, Films4U in Portugal, Spentzos in Greece, and Amazon Prime Video for Italy and Spain, joining previous sales to North America (Bluefox), France (Amazon), German-speaking territories (Plaion) and eastern Europe (Mediasquad).

You can add The Beekeeper to the long list of action movies named for the jobs their protagonist took up after laying down their weapons and trying to live a peaceful life: The Gardener, The Painter, The Bricklayer… etc, etc. Actually Adam Clay always was a beekeeper, that was the name of the elite unit he was a part of before he retired to actually raise bees. He does this on a farm owned by Eloise Parker somewhere in a very confused part of England that wants us to believe it’s actually Western Massachusetts.

Eloise, who is supposed to be a retired teacher and should know better, falls for one of those computer scams that says you have a virus and to call this number to have it removed.

A couple days ago, we shared the news that writer/director Rhys Frake-Waterfield has secured distribution in multiple territories for a sequel to his horror twist on a beloved children’s story, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. But that’s not the only project Frake-Waterfield has in the works. He’s planning to build a cinematic universe out of horror movies based on public domain family friendly stories – including Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare and Bambi: The Reckoning. Now The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Bambi: The Reckoning has also secured distribution in multiple territories.

Inspired by Felix Salten’s 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, this movie is coming to us from ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions. In the past game, Fallen Order, there were only a handful of seeds to collect and place in a terrarium on the Mantis. Now players can collect a lot more variety of seeds and obtain hundreds of them to be used to plant in a garden.

Finding seeds in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a simple task that involves cutting down specific plants with the lightsaber. A few breakout television hits lifted quarterly revenues at Lionsgate, but production delays related to Covid-19 and sluggish subscriber growth at the company’s Starz pay television and streaming arm resulted in wider losses.

Sales at the film and television company climbed 5.8% to $885.4 million, while the net loss attributable to Lionsgate shareholders topped out at $45.6 million or 20 cents per share. That was a steeper drop from profitability than the $13.9 million in losses that Lionsgate logged in the year-ago period. Starz’s net global streaming subscribers increased by 1.7 million in the sequential quarter, with its streaming subscriber base for Starz, Starzplay Arabia and Pantaya topping out at 19.7 million.

The company’s results missed Wall Street’s projections. Lionsgate was expected to post quarterly earnings of 22 cents per share on revenues of $993.8 million.
