Fantasy and animation are a perfect match that, for whatever reason, Hollywood has yet to fully tap into. Sure, there are plenty of animated fairy tale movies; they used to be Disney's bread and butter, after all. However, when it comes to more serious, high fantasy animated films, they are severely lacking, with "The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" being the rare exception (one that married the epic "Lord of the Rings" universe with anime).
This is not to say there aren't other examples, but they are rare enough that any announcement involving a new animated fantasy movie is exciting. Case in point, Warner Bros. Animation and Locksmith Animation are working to bring Marissa Meyer's best-selling book series "The Lunar Chronicles" to the big screen as a trilogy of animated features — and the first book already has a release date.
This is an interesting move on behalf of Warner Bros.

Queer cinema has come a long way since the Hays Code, which prevented genuine stories from being told under the false guise of moral decency. While gender-bending movies fall into an even more niche subgenre, it's slowly gathering an impressive catalog of films. Films about cross-dressing, drag queens, the transgender community, and even fantasies that involve body-swapping and magical transformations are available under this category.
The best films on this gender-swapping side of cinema are unusual, challenging, and smart. They take on concepts that most films aren't willing to tackle, introducing new ideas and highlighting old prejudices in ways their fans didn't expect. Ranging from one of the first to introduce cross-dressing positively in Some Like it Hot to honest explorations of drag culture in Paris is Burning, movies that include the subversion of gender stereotypes are varied and valuable in a multitude of different ways.

2024 has been a surprisingly fruitful year for the musical genre. While some movie musicals like Joker: Folie a Deux may have missed the mark with audiences, others like Wicked have been drawing in massive crowds to theaters and being met with high praise. Even Prime Video's animated series, Hazbin Hotel, has become a worldwide phenomenon, sparking a massive fan base and a soundtrack of songs that make it irresistible to sing along. It's a rare thing when musical stories find their way to the realm of TV, but when they do, the results are just as, if not more engaging. For anyone itching to find another musical to get themselves into, they need not look any further than a certain animated Netflix series.

No medium gives artists as much runway creatively as animation. Sure, projects focusing on real people can be aided by things like inventive storytelling and special effects, but no movie or show has the ability to portray truly whatever the creators have in mind as much as an animated one. This art form has led to many iconic projects, with animators using their skills to create some of the most beautiful stories imaginable — or, in the case of Centaurworld, the most monstrous. Audiences who've only seen the trailers for Megan Nicole Dong's Netflix series may be confused by that statement; focusing on a war horse transported into a world filled with different kinds of centaurs, the series' slapstick comedy and sickeningly sweet hues seem the complete opposite of scary.

At this point, it’s a given that we’re living in the “golden age” of television; somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 new scripted series drop each year. With so much to choose from, that means TV can get daring, specific, and sometimes, weird as hell. Superheroes trapped inside an I Love Lucy pastiche? A creepy animatronic doll calling a murderous game of Red Light, Green Light? In the era of peak TV, grade-a oddity is only a mouse-click away.
But no show in 2021 is more weirdly specific — and specifically weird — than Centaurworld.

The year is somehow already almost over! To celebrate another passage around the sun, Netflix is putting its best foot forward with its list of new releases for December 2021.
Netflix’s options of original series are quite vast and impressive this month. It starts early on with two finales: Lost in Space wraps up its story with a third and final season on Dec. 1 and is quickly followed by the last go-around for Spanish hit Money Heist. The blockbusters continue apace from there with The Witcher season 2 premiering on Dec. 17, Emily in Paris season 2 on Dec. 22, and Cobra Kai season 4 on Dec. 31 to close out the year.
