Unsinkable

So I watched this movie and it was moving in many regards. It's beautiful how many people were vulnerable and shared their stories. I respect people sharing their experiences of painful situations.

The reason I gave it a 3 is because it felt like a drawn out informational by the end of it. I don't want to give spoilers in case people want to see the movie for themselves. It can easily sway people who are vulnerable into paying for expensive workshops which may not be the type of support they need. Some people may like it but it definitely makes me weary of who they target for ads because they talk about trauma so much.

The tools that were spoken about are basically tools most mental health counselors use to help their clients which they provide one on one for them. I think it would be better to seek out professional support from a therapist/ counselor / social worker who has a degree and licensure for when people are experiencing difficulties. Especially in case they need more support than what the movie was offering or the workshops they mentioned. If you are having a mental health crisis in the USA please seek out help by calling 988 which is a national hotline. Or call other local emergency services.

The movie also had new age type references and sounded like law of attraction. For Christians that's not what we believe in and it was cringey for me. I know non religious/ spiritual people probably wouldn't like someone of those parts of the movie.

This has promised to be a documentary about resilience. However, the speakers featured have not been through any particular life struggles themselves and are not qualified to speak on the subject.

The movie starts with a very long description of how Sonia - the author and the main character - lost her mom to cancer. While I am sorry for her loss, I cannot unsee that Sonya is in her 50's, so her mom must have been in her 70's or 80's. Again, sorry for the loss, but this course of events doesn't seem too outstanding, does it?

Sonya just devours this suffering, tells in small detail how the hospital called her and she missed the first call, reads out loud the condolences letters that she has been sent. I don't understand, why the watchers need to see this.

Come on Sonya, there are children, who lose parents in their childhood! There are ones who never had any!

Another unmeasureable suffering that Sonya Ricotti, self-called "bounce back expert", has endured, was becoming ill and having to go to the hospital for injections. Really.

And - get this - the hospital was the whole 35 minutes away from her home. Unthinkable suffering!

The other gurus are just saying a bunch of words about letting go and moving on. Probably the right words, but very general ones. Unfortunately, listening to general words has rarely helped anyone.

My review is primarily in response to neremeva's review of 30 July 2023. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone who has ever had painful setbacks in life. This movie offers real tools and hope of bouncing back big.

I think that neremeeva missed the entire point of this movie. This movie isn't about proving one's pain worthy of sympathy. This movie is about learning to live through your painful moments and then letting those moments and that pain go.

Holding on to pain (in thoughts, memory, etc.) is the source of all suffering and unhappiness. It saps our energy and leads to unlived lives. The purpose of this movie is for the narrator and interviewees (many of whom had significant set backs and overcame them) to share what they've learned about bouncing back from life's setbacks.

I don't know what neremeeva's problem was with this movie. Perhaps they are the one's who have never had any real setbacks in their life (yet). Their lack of empathy and compassion is staggering. Worse, they are discouraging people from watching a beautiful and life affirming video that can really, really help.

Kind of new agey. I saw lots of CBT & DBT information and it smells a bit of a money making franchise. I very much feel like that there is going to be an expensive workshop offered after I've watched this. There's some really good moments but overall to me it's not very well structured. It's kind of like a montage of ideas. It's very mind based except some of the guest speakers go beyond this which is helpful.

I feel that she has a bit of a nerve to cruise around in a Maserati. How obnoxious. The Unsinkable franchise is obviously doing well. Think of your audience for a moment. People who are trying to bounce back and there you are in a Maserati. Not helpful.

People who have suffered a trauma look to understand, not to blame. There is some good information on reaching levels of understanding in this film.

Bring yourself back to the moment etc. Is not new information. Life is like a staircase... well...

How about giving a homeless person an 'I am unsinkable' sign at the end? Not every life gets a happy ending.

Oh yes here we go 3 steps and a VIP course is on sale.

1) Reprogram your conscious mind. Very CBT.

2) Reprogram your subconscious mind (limiting beliefs). Very CBT 3) Shift your vibrational frequency = New agey (law of attraction)

Watch this for the guest speakers, you're probably going to relate to one or two of them.

It's a pity about the big sell on the workshop at the end, it makes me feel that the movie is just one long Advertisment. The Unsinkable bounce back system 2.0, Right.
