Tomokazu Seki appears as Sori and previously starred as Manji in the original Mugen no jûnin (2008), making him the only major cast member to have appear in the original and remake.

Based on a historical drama manga series written and illustrated by Hiroaki Samura. It was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon from June 1993 to December 2012, with its chapters collected in 30 tankobon volumes.

The series is set in Japan during the mid-Tokugawa Shogunate period.
