Starting off with the guys that created the show. SMG4 made satirical videos about Mario. Little did we know they'd do more and they delivered with this. It's an interesting take involving video games. Since I'm a gamer myself I decided to give it a shot and I'm not disappointed in any way. Keeps you engaged in the story. It's action packed, funny, and surprisingly has a lot of heart in it. Animation is definitely different but I can live with it.

I must first let it be known that I am friends with some of the voice cast of this show, so with any and all biases I might have made public I will begin.
The show takes place in a futuristic setting where video games have dominated pop culture to the point where it's the only thing people seem to be passionate about, lots of people train to make a name for themselves within the Esports scene but at the top are players called Meta Runners with their abilities enhanced with cybernetic arms. The story revolves around Tari who wakes up in a ruined lab with no memory of who she is or how she got there, she is even equipped with her own cybernetic arm. She has the unique ability to link her mind in to any game she plays and interact within it, catching the attention of two parties who want to use her ability for their own ends. The first party can be considered the antagonists Belle Frontier and her boss simply known as Lucks, who owns the company called TAS Corp which promotes Meta Runners under their employ and sell merchandise at their own stores; there are competing companies which presumably do the same. The second party,MD-5 is comprised as a rag tag band of Meta Runner who have a bone to pick with Lucks. The team is lead by a young man named Masa who befriends Tari and works with her to figure out her past and where she came from since their goals align.
The first season has concluded and while I did enjoy my time with it it left me feeling rather unfulfilled in a few areas to say the least, the story and world building certainly is interesting but it comes at the expense of much needed character development which doesn't even happen for most of the characters until near the end which may be a consequence of money and time being a new up and coming studio and all.
As for the characters themselves they're fine, I can't find myself getting annoyed by any of them but I've seen these characters before in other shows, I already mentioned that there wasn't enough time for character development and this is especially true for MD-5. Lamar is the carefree comic relief and Sofia is a quirky computer technician and the Leader Masa is a brooding emo and throughout most of the show that's all we really know. I'm not trying to knock on these characters for being archetypes but we learn nothing of value about these people or their actual goals until near the end of the season and I think that's a glaring flaw, luckily it's not a deal breaker as there are other things to hook you in but it is hard to ignore. Belle and Lucks however are far more interesting simply because the mystery of Tari's existence has a lot to do with TAS Corp, I won't give too much away as that would spoil a critical plot point but not only do we learn more about Belle but we also get a glimpse of how resourceful Lucks can be where you can easily see how he was able to climb the corporate ladder even if at first glance he comes off as shallow depiction of corporate greed.
The environments in this show are amazing, truly a site to behold. I love the look of the futuristic city setting and seeing what this world looks like was way more fun to see than anything else going on, I thought it was cool that you could just walk down the street and play a game for a few minutes! I love the idea hat people can rent pods for streaming video games like an internet cafe! I wanna see more! Like... what's mundane stuff like going to the DMV like in this world? What about bars? Movie theaters? Grocery Stores? Maybe an antique store that sells old game cartridges and systems with AV outputs? There's so much untapped potential here but we spend most of our time stuck in the hideout or a corporate building. If there's anything I want to see from Season 2 it's more of stuff like this! I like the music too, the opening theme kind of annoyed me at first but it grew on me and I love the choice in sound design.
Now I want to touch upon Tari's unique ability and in my opinion this is where this show really dropped the ball. As I stated before she can link her mind to the game and jump in as a player character to interact within the game. She is able to freely move about and she seems to have this built in system which allows her to view objectives and courses of action with a percentage of success displayed. Keep in mind she is the only one who can do these things therefore she is not inhibited by the limitations presented by a controller or a keyboard and mouse. Half of that is entirely meaningless when normal players can do some of the same things. For example when Masa is playing "Not Call of Duty" with Tari to test her ability he is able to move as freely and move all his character's limbs as if he too was in the game using a basic 8 button controller and I can't abandon my suspension of disbelief for that especially when everyone can do it too. I can totally believe that they can use their arms to scan their faces on their player characters (which they do) but I draw the line at anything more than an emote unless they're wearing some kind of VR Headset that uses the same function, perhaps that is supposed to be from Tari's perspective but I haven't been given any clues to anything like that. There's also little things that kind of make me go "Wait, how did she know how to properly reload that gun?" to "Wait, if she can feel pain in this game then why not in the other one? Last time I checked getting shot should REALLY hurt!" but I guess that's stuff that only bothers me. So yeah, the thing that's supposed to make Tari unique from the rest really isn't that special when everyone else can do a lot of the same things she can assuming this is not a perspective thing. I will say though that I do like some of the environments in the games themselves and I like the idea of giving Tari a new outfit to wear depending on which game she jumps in to, it's perfect fodder for fanart and that's always great for strengthening a community around your show. I hope we get more this at least.
So to summarize I really do like this show but there's no real hook for me to say that this is a must watch, I can only say that it's definitely worth a look and if you can turn off your brain during some parts you'll have a fun time with this show. It has it's strengths and I hope it sticks to them.
May this be the beginning of something great... Hopefully!

Meta runner is a world where video games are important. The voice acting in this show can sometimes be weak, but overall it's ok. The animation is quite nice. The story can be cliche at times but, overall I will give it a 7.5 or a 8.

This show is incredible sometimes the acting gets a little ehh but most the time its beautiful. The ending(I wont spoil it)is really cool. If SMG4 uses the animation that he uses for tari on saiko or meggy or someone like that it would look ALOT better

This is by far the best animated webseries of 2019, on par with RWBY, Nomad of Nowhere, gen:LOCK and Human Kind Of. Brilliant story, directing, characters, cinematography, editing, visual effects, sound design, music and both production and character design.
This is the Spider-Verse of animated webseries. A masterful animated webseries.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like this series even It's been 3 episodes. The animations, graphics and voice acting is kinda good but some characters are cliche , like Anime America or Lucks the bad guy. The story is also cliche but I kinda like it. Also I do think that Tari is the right protagonist in the series. I'm being honest, I do like the series, but all of this It's cliche.
Meta Runner is an amazing series that we didn't deserve. It's got an amazing series with great comedy, great characters, and a well done story to back it all up, however... it's animation has some lighting/movement problems at some points. This is most noticeable after Episode 3 of Season 1 where the animation noticeably went downhill a little. Aside from that, it's a great series made by talented people and I love to tune in every Thursday to see what comes next. Keep up the good work, Glitch Productions.

At first, I'm a french fan of SMG4. watching his videos from approximatively 2015.
When I watched the trailer of this series for the first time, i thought to myself :"yeaaah. Not bad, but I dunno if I'll watch it when it will come out."
Then, in September, I finally decided to watch episode 5... And I was impressed. Quite impressed. It was way better than I was expecting ! And my opinion did'nt change since... So, naturally, I decided to watch the whole show. Yeah,But... it's very short (for now) . In Season 1 there is only 10 episodes and each episode durability is only between 12 and 17 minutes ! I hope season two will not be that short ! Except this detail (wich is very disappointing for me) this series is pretty good : visually, it's good, the plot is excellent, for now (also, you need to know that it's hard to imagine and write a plot for a movie or a series wich talks about video games, it's also the best point in this series) , each protagonist and and antagonist's personality is quite interesting, and finally, the acting is awesome, specially in emotional scenes of the series (for an example, when I saw Theo's death scene in episode 10, I founded it so authentic and sad, that I missed to cry...) In brief, it's a pretty good little animated series, good job SMG4, but for now , it's too short. PS : I can't wait for Season 2 !!!

Meta runner was made by a small team of people, which was honestly incredible. I have lots of positives and negatives with this series though.
Pros: Good writing Good characters Decent animation Great landscaping and environments Captures video games perfectly without overdoing it Puts it's comedy in good places and not in serious scenes There's only 1 filler episode (which is still enjoyable to watch) --- Cons: Sometimes the animation can look a bit weird The story is kinda cliche at times The main villian is just scary bad guy oh nooooo The characters are SUPER cliche and basic until you get to understand them better
Overall: I think this is a good series with heavy pros and some meh flaws. It's a 7/10 as it isn't perfect and has it's flaws, but it's still one of the best web series I've seen.

Let's dive straight in. NO wait, before you say anything like "oh but dude you didn't watch the whole season" or "you're just a salty SMG4 hater", let me tell you this right now. I adore SMG4's content, the main series is everything I love about the DIY, niche scene in Youtube animation. And I watched all of the episodes in this season, and, while it's a bold move from SMG4, they still have much to learn. Anyways, here's my opinion:
STORY and SCENARIO(4/10): Interesting premise, kinda, but then the rest is cliche, it feels like I'm watching Ready Player One with nuances of Code Lyoko(and I barely know the latter). It's especially clear with the corporate villains v.s. the little brotherhood kind of rebellion. Did I mention most of the scenaristic choices are overdone and cheesy? Yeah I probably should have. Although, I'll admit it, I'm excessively harsh, a few scenaristic choices were somewhat entertaining, if not outright exciting. The scenario is mainly dreadful, though, so even the good attempts tend to get overshadowed. And don't get me started on the obvious plot holes and illogical aspects of this show.
CHARACTERS(2/10): Yikes. I wasn't expecting the characters to be so uninteresting. In the main SMG4 series, even the worst characters have at least some sort of depth. Here, they're the definition of cardboard cutouts. Lux, the typical corporate villain. Belle, the typical half-villain, half-rival. Tari, the most boring and cliched main protagonist. Theo, the annoying, mascot-like kid. The others. Yeah I forgot about them because I didn't care at all about them, they're so bland. Even their character designs were dull. Disastrous.
VOICE ACTING(4/10): Man, this voice acting made my ears bleed. It's incredibly inconsistent, and of course the acceptable voice acting moments are few and far between. Manages to morph the already awful characters into something beyond abysmal.
ANIMATION and ENVIRONMENTS(6/10): The animation is mediocre, the characters look seriously stiff and lifeless at times, but it's still quite impressive for a channel who usually does the Gmod DIY, amateur type of comedic videos. The environments are honestly excellent, a tad generic, but almost perfect otherwise.
MUSIC and SOUND DESIGN(6/10): Actually another alright part of this show. The sound design is pretty brilliant, and most of the soundtrack is well executed, although only in context. However, the opening and closing tracks just scream generic anime vibes as they're generic, sterile little pop rock tunes that personally hurt my feelings as a music enthusiast :(
ENJOYMENT and REPLAY VALUE: If you purposefully turn off your brain, you might enjoy these series, and maybe, MAYBE, re-watch them. Otherwise, into the oblivion it goes. Unless the second season is good, but I wouldn't count on that.
P.S.: Also the dialogue is average/mediocre, with the amount of times the characters say "goddammit" being borderline sacrilegious.

Meta Runner is a very great series made by Luke and Kevin from SMG4 and their team. The story is intersting and I thing this is the start of a very intresting story line. The characters are fine and the voice acting is also fine. The things people say that it is "boring and terible" is not true. Those are the people who have only seen the trailer and episode 1, so tell them to see all 10 episodes of this amazing show. So the show is a golden age of youtube animation series and it will be amazing. "You don't know what people do to be the best", Belle. And that is what the fans have done.

Meta Runner is one of the best animated series ever made, especially on YouTube. Made by two brothers, Luke and Kevin Lerdwichagul, the creators of this series, along with talented composer AJ DiSpirito and many skilled animators, this series was made with lots of love and series dedication to its making.
Personally, this series will be ranked at the top of my list of favourite series of the 2010s, with the likes of "Gravity Falls" and "Rick and Morty".
Sure, counted it only has 10 episodes in the first season, Meta Runner still manages to dive into the good and bad side of a society built on Esports, the two sides to the coin of having games as the base of society. This is something that many creators are not brave enough to delve into, especially for their first, original animated series and yet the Lerdwichagul brothers, both in their early and mid 20s, have managed to pull it off. This shows how much potential the creators and this series have.
Also, I personally rank this series's soundtrack 10/10, amongst the likes of Undertale and Sonic.

Even though season 1 looked like it was made in a college class. It didn't need to look good because the story made up for it as soon as I finished the first season I needed to see more and every Friday when the new episode came out I was watching it the second it premiered its so addictive. The story was really interesting and every cliff hanger had me on the edge of my seat. This shows characters are developed through every season so we'll and you really fall in love with these characters even if you don't like them(looking at you Evelyn). To sum it up this show is amazing and underrated and I recommend it to everyone.

This is a good show to put on if your bored and looking for some cyberpunk fun, but don't go in thinking this show is a masterpiece or anything. This show is weird when it comes to pacing and the quality of the episodes range from good to mediocre. The first season also looks kinda ugly at times and season 3 just looks off. The second season overall is probably the best of the seasons in terms of looks and storytelling.

This show is unique, original, and very good. The plot is excellent, the caracters writing is good, and the Drama is present. SMG4, congratulations, you've made something serious, unlike most of your Garry's mod shorts (they still good and funny anyway). Can't wait for season 2, that's for sure. I've got nothing else to say.
A good smg4 show, but sometimes this series is very dark and badass, unfortunately, this series has poor cgi render, need improvements render cgi use ue4 and next season will be on ue5

Glitch Productions clearly didn't care about anything in this show. The story is cliché, and it uses the oldest cheap storytelling techniques in the book. The animation is horrible, which is sad, as you can make amazing things using UE4. The voice acting is OK, but they got Anime America, the quality YouTuber, to voice a bland "excited kid" character, which leads to the horrible cliché characters. Tari is one of the most boring protagonists I could have ever imagined. Luke is a cliché corporate big bad guy. Also, the speedrunning community is presented as very competitive and selfish, even though it's not the case. And you know the worst part? This show has been funded by the Australian government and Crunchyroll! So if you're either a tax-paying Australian or a Crunchyroll-subscribed anime fan, be assured that your precious money goes into the crapfest that is Meta Runner.
