Perfect Christmas Movie

All the ingredients for a perfect Christmas movie come together with this Hallmark offering. Chemistry between leads Cor and Patterson is very believable and makes for a lovely movie. A cute kid being a kid and not a whining adult moves the story in the right direction. And an adorable dog is always a plus.

Yes, Hallmark got it right this time. Santa will not forget you.

Charming

Charming is the fair term to define it. For the good job of Luke Roessler and Paula Shaw, for the few spices making the familiar recipe more atractive and for the reasonable portrait of romance. The result - beautiful film, lovely story.

Hallmark Christmas at its best

This movie exemplifies what the Christmas season is all about. It's very well-written with a plausible and interesting plot. The acting is so good by the four leads that they hold your interest throughout. Merritt Patterson and Jon Cor have real screen chemistry here, and are very good in developing characters with depth and feeling. Engaging performances whether their scenes are together or apart. Whoever cast Paula Shaw as Grandmother Louise deserves much credit. These films regularly have "older" supporting characters to provide wisdom and advice to the younger ones, but, in this case, Shaw delivers a sincere, spirited, and forthright performance that is really quite good. She is on par with Susan Hogan, who appears in many Hallmark movies as the "older" mother, grandmother, etc. And Luke Roessler, as the orphan Troy, really ACTS as opposed to just reciting his lines as so many child actors do in these movies. His performance is very nuanced and natural, making his part enjoyable to watch rather than annoying. The direction is very good and the settings are attractive - professional looking and detailed. No cut-the-cost cheapness here. This movie really generates a warm and satisfying feeling for the Christmas season, particularly because of the four leads and the interactions between their characters that are so genuinely and well played. Nicely done and worthy of repeat viewings to keep you in the Christmas spirit.

Cliche, yes.. familiar plot, yes- BUT IT WORKED

Well done to all the actors especially the first four listed under the movie title (on a completely different topic, IMDB should've also included a thumbs down to the actors we do not follow or care for since they decided to take down the message boards and we all know it was politically motivated). Ok back to movie, the main leads were perfect together, she's so adorable and male lead was so handsome. The little boy was cute as a button and I thought he did a great job. The actor who played the grandmother, I remember her from another Christmas movie where she's the matriarch of a very wealthy family, I loved her in that movie and I loved her in this one too. Again I say, well done to all involved in this project- it's just a shame Hallmark can't shoot all of the Christmas movies in an actual cold climate, I must say I'm so sick of fake snow! Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this particular movie!!!

Picture this!

Ok, so the kid is awesome, such a cool little guy. You can see why the lead female might want to rethink her life after spending time with him, and Grandma is a canny old gal, who has elements of the late, great Carrie Fisher, but the dog steals the show - Not really, but he makes a good plot device. The lead male needs to get a better haircut, but he makes a good Uncle and I like the romance that blooms between him and her.

It's got all the trappings of the classic small town Christmas film and it's just a nice story. It didn't blow me away, but it didn't bomb either.

Perfect Christmas Happily Ever After Movie

I'm watching this movie on Easter. Best movie I've seen with Merritt Patterson who is becoming a Christmas movie treasure. Very well written and simple. There are 4 main characters. No convoluted sub plots. Merritt's character is a young exciting cheerful career woman anyone would want to be. She unexpectedly visits her grandmother who thinks the next door neighbor taking care of his nephew is a good fit for her grand daughter. Paula Shaw is grandma who I saw on the first season of Cedar Cove. She is great. John Cor plays the next door neighbor. A good choice. The movie brings us along in the 2 deciding they are right for each other. Well well done.

A 7.6 Rating?

Seen all Hallmark Christmas movies. I don't think a 7.6 rating is valid. Gave it a 5 but a 3.6 would work. The 2 main characters aren't that fantastic. Sorry didn't love this movie. It was my wife that told me she hated it.

Could have been more perfect

I truly enjoyed the story of the movie. Unlike most Hallmark scripts, there was no tree lighting ceremony, and no love story that had a big misunderstanding towards the end where everyone is angry with each other, and then get back together with a kiss which ends the movie! So I completely appreciated the deviation from the norm. However, the leading man and nephew had not too long ago gone through an extremely difficult time. David has many dimensions and his nephew does as well, but Sophie just didn't cut it for me. She has one level - smiling. Her grandmother tells her the story of what her neighbors have gone through and Sophie listens and smiles. It is not a happy story, and even when David talks to her about how his nephew came into his life Sophie, you guessed it, smiles. It's the oddest reaction to me and it is not until about 15 minutes before the end that she actually keeps a straight face when he pours his heart out to her again, but there is no emotion! I would've given it a lower rating, but I feel that all the characters in this movie acted top notch and we're very believable. The fact that Sophie was so miscast is why I couldn't give it a higher rating.

Not really a picture perfect Christmas

Hallmark Christmas films are very variable. There is a handful of them that are surprisingly good/decent, many that are somewhere in between barely average and decent, some lacklustre at best ones and some really quite bad ones. This is coming from somebody who has considered Christmas her favourite time of year for the whole of her nearly 28 years (have not revealed my age on here for a long time in trying to be discreet about personal details). Merritt Patterson can be very appealing when served well.

'Picture a Perfect Christmas' is neither one of the best Hallmark Christmas films or one of the worst. For me it is one of the somewhere in between efforts and the ones that are slightly above average. Not a bad film at all by all means, but didn't consider 'Picture a Perfect Christmas' a great film unlike respectfully some of the other reviewers. Patterson is served well thank goodness, but this is a case of her deserving of a better co-lead, whereas she is one of the reasons to see the film he is a main reason as to why it doesn't work better.

Will start with the good things. 'Picture a Perfect Christmas' is a nice-looking film, the scenery being especially attractive. The music is suitably festive and doesn't overbear, the use of old favourite Christmas songs/carols didn't come over as too obvious or over-the-top nor inappropriate for the scenes. There are some charming and heart-warming moments and the story does have some genuine and unforced heart.

Generally the characters didn't bore or annoy me, Sophie being a likeable characters. There are enough moments of sweet chemistry between her and Jon Cor. Mostly the acting is better than average, Patterson coming out on top in a sparkling performance that was never dull or over-acted. Paula Shaw and Nicole Oliver are worthy support for her, Shaw seeming to enjoy herself. Luke Roessler as Troy has proved to be more divisive here, to me he wasn't cloying or obnoxious.

On the other hand, Cor never seemed as engaged or as at ease. Actually thought like a few others here that he looked lost and out of his depth. His chemistry with Patterson has its moments but too often is awkward and lacks spark. The story is a formulaic one in the first place, being mostly standard festive Hallmark, and 'Picture a Perfect Christmas' does nothing new with it.

Also, there is a lack of tension and little at stake, outcomes never being in doubt, so the film too often feels too bland (the erratic pace doesn't help) and safe. Too much of the dialogue is enough to make one cringe in its cheesiness and it tends to be strained and too schmaltzy.

In summary, slightly above average but to me it was nothing special. 6/10

Christmassy Goodness!

One of this years Hallmark Christmas offerings, Merritt Patterson and Jon Cor take the leads in this warm Christmas jumper, feel warm and fuzzy film. Sophie returns home (someone is always returning home in these films) to look after her Grandma, David lives next door to Grandma with his nephew Troy (there's often a child involved as well). The spirit of Christmas is in full force, these two good looking people find each other, find love, find a family, find out how to celebrate Christmas properly. Standard Hallmark fare but also a lovely watch on a Sunday afternoon whilst the weather is rubbish outside.

Me and Shell googled Hallmark towns and are planning a Christmas tour of these type of towns later on when we have money to afford it. Hallmark I am hooked on your Hot Chocolately goodness. You are my first sign of Christmas approaching, when you start to land on Christmas 24.

The scale of 20 for normal films does not apply for Hallmark films, instead we have a Christmas Bauble scale and this one receives a big ole shiny bauble, not a little tree space filler.

I was ok with this movie until...

The dance scene, after David put Troy to bed. Then it just got weird between the two of them. They didn't say a word to each other while in a very awkward situation. It just didn't meld with the rest of the story line.

This was a lovely movie, sweet and charming. It had a nice feel good to it and had two Christmas tree decorating parts which is always a win win haha. I watched this as part of my Christmas movie challenge and im glad I did as I really enjoyed it.

This is movie 14 out of 100 for my challenge.

I will watch it again.

Very very boring.

This one was really just a lot of Christmas scenes strung together by a really weak plot. We have city girl coming home to small town. We have the Christmas pageant. We have the single Dad. We have the snowball fight. We have the tree shopping. We have the hot chocolate. We may have missed the mistletoe and the cooking baking: I really don't remember. There was no tension or suspense. The unsuitable city boyfriend was disposed of around the halfway point. Merritt Patterson is usually pretty good, but even she could not inject any life into this one. Amazed at the high reviews. Also, I found the kid annoying and granny needed to mind her own business.

ANOTHER HIT!

I enjoyed this movie and will watch it again. I thought the lead characters had great chemistry. As far as the negative comment about the grandma pushing her granddaughter to pursue a relationship that surely had sparked, she knew that the other guy was too "work oriented" to really have any meaningful relationship with her precious granddaughter. Kudos, grandma! Add this one to your Christmas movies watch list.

Jon Corr's Hair

I really wanted to like this movie, but I could not get pay Jon Corr's hair! It was so incredibly distracting to have it completely change every few minutes! In the house it's flat and combed over to the left, moments later in a different room it's combed to the right with a big wavy dip, then he steps outside and it's nappy and extremely hairsprayed backwards and wind blown away from his forehead and looks like a really bad toupee. Literally changed drastically about every 3 minutes or so! Ugh!

Photographer struggles between building her career and finding small town love.

Well this definitely was not filmed in Bainbridge or anywhere near Seattle...says this native and anyone who has been here. I wish it had been.

This is about a professional photographer named Sophie, who for once doesn't have to work over Christmas. So, Sophie goes home to fake Bainbridge Island to help her grandmother Louise, who has injured her foot and needs a little help with her Christmas charity work.

Louise, in conjunction with her dog, has charmed her youthful next door neighbor, Troy. Troy is busy trying to convince his uncle and legal guardian David that he doesn't need a baby sitter because he could just hang out with Louise.

This is how Sophie and David meet. The two click instantly, only David is trying to create a stable family life for his nephew who lost both his parents in a car accident and Sophie likes to be able to pick up and go traveling all around the world for her job.

The two eventually find a compromise...for a truly happy Hallmark ending. Merritt Patterson is lovely as Sophie and she had great chemistry with the handsome Jon Cor who played David. Paula Shaw is great as the grandmother and it was great to see a kids play be prominently featured, even if it is for reindeer number 5. Not high on the romance scale or overly Christmas-y, but it was probably a middle of the road Hallmark Holiday movie that hardcore fans will appreciate.
