Not really worth the effort...

Granted, I figured that a movie that sounded like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and with Tony Todd on the cast list couldn't be all that bad, right? But while Tony Todd is somewhat of a horror icon, then he does have a lot, and I do mean a lot, of dubious movie titles to his name. So I wasn't exactly harboring much hopes for writers Matt Giannini and Michael Mongillo's 2021 sci-fi thriller "The Changed".

But since I do believe in giving a movie a fair chance, of course I opted to sit down and watch what director Michael Mongillo had to offer with "The Changed".

And it wasn't really a whole lot, let me just tell you that. Yeah, "The Changed" was sort of semi-watchable, but that was about it. Whereas the synopsis sounded interesting enough and lead me to think of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", the reality of "The Changed" was somewhat different. And not in a good way.

The storyline put together by Matt Giannini and Michael Mongillo was just not impressive. The movie was barely sufficiently capable of sustaining a single viewing. I managed to sit through the ordeal, but I wasn't impressed, and not particularly entertained. And not even Tony Todd did anything to lift up the ordeal that is "The Changed".

The acting performances in the movie were, for the most parts, actually fair enough. I was only familiar with Tony Todd of all the performers on the cast list.

Visually then there are no special effects worth mentioning in "The Changed". So don't get your hopes up for being in a for a visually astounding sci-fi thriller. It just ain't happening.

My rating of "The Changed" lands on a very generous three out of ten stars.

As close to an abomination as the devil will allow

The acting is bad. It's shot in bad video. The script is horrendous. I'm not sure if anything could be saved. On second thought, yes, there is: it's only 78 minutes long, which on the other hand, is way too long.

Anyone who rated this film high is probably a part of the production. I am insanely generous to give it a 3 (but I just got some better antidepressants from my shrink). Avoid absolutely. Ab-so-lu-te-ly!

DO NOT WATCH!!!!

This is the worst movie I have seen in a very long time! I have always liked the body snatcher genre, this is a joke though and you will be left wondering how you will ever get back the time wasted on this garbage. Bad acting, bad direction, lousy story!

Not worth your time!

Everything about this movie was done very poorly. The acting, the script, the lighting, all horrible. Even the horror OG Tony Todd had a horribly boring character to play. Even if you're really bored, you'd be better off watching Nicole Kidman in Invasion. If you don't mind horror, an ultra low budget film done right: It Follows.

What a bad movie

Its a complete waste of time. The actors are doing a lousy job. Its very bad acting. Its bad cinematography. It reeks of being a b-movie. I liked The Invasion with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and also Invasion of the Body Snatchers both the classic from 1978 and the one from 1993. This crap tries to be like them, but fails big time. I didnt even finish this utter b-movie crap. Avoid.

The worst movie I've seen in recent memory

I don't usually write reviews for movies but when I saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was going to be so cool. Truly this was the worst movie I have ever seen - at least that I can remember.

Low budget doesn't even excuse the poor cinematography and terrible acting. Kim was probably the worst of them all though. She was so awkward, I don't know what they were thinking casting her. Honestly though, they were all terrible actors.

The movie was legitimately painful to watch. The odd camera angles were so bothersome to me. I kept thinking MOVE THE CAMERA. I don't usually even notice this kind of stuff in movies but it was THAT bad to me. The way this movie was filmed literally irritated me. I was getting fidgety watching the movie.. I just wanted it to end. If I were watching it alone, I definitely would've turned it off but the person I was with doesn't like cutting movies short.

The concept itself was alright I guess, but the storyline was terrible. It was just plain boring. There was no real buildup, the ending was so dumb and none of the characters were likable at all. I don't think I could find one good thing about the movie other than the general concept.

Definitely would NOT recommend watching this movie. Truly a waste of time.

There IS something to be afraid of & it's this godawful film!

I don't always take the reviews into consideration when deciding whether to watch a movie or not, but this is one time for potential viewers to pay attention and believe them! To compare this horrendous load of garbage to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" or "The Faculty" is totally ludicrous & an insult to those amazing, timeless classics, as well as an insult to everyone involved with them. This movie (!) is a ridiculous joke, unworthy of anyone's time. Abominable acting, dialogue, script, plot, ending...I kept hoping it would improve, but it only got worse. Waste of time, the 1-star reviews are too high, this deserves a 0, tops!

Is it giving in or giving up? It's us or them, in an excellent exercise in tension.

SEEN AT SCREAMFEST 2021, LOS ANGELES

While many directors play it safe by giving us films that contain similar aspects (particularly in big budget films), Michael Mongillo's films over the past 20 years have proven to each be a different beast, making each one a new idea. The Changed is a welcome addition to that line. Though people will make comparisons to Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and countless other films in that style, Mongillo does a nice approach of paring things down and making it more personal by containing most of the story in a home, creating claustrophobia, which helps build the story and ratchet up the tension to such a level that the viewers will feel their own fear and dread. This is a fresh approach to the home seige scenario. While other reviews are more specific in revealing the specifics, I'm going to hold back just enough to let the surprises pull you in when you view it.

The introductions to the three main characters is conceptually fascinating. Mac, Jane, and Kim are each first seen center positioned in their frame, with another character entering and ever so slightly igniting your suspicions as the three are also realizing something has been subtly going on for nearly a month by then.

Kim (Clare Foley of SINISTER) conveys a believable sense of loss even before her suspicions of things going awry are validated. Coming from a troubled home life and socially awkward situation of lack of friends, her already existing helplessness either has her able to keep her sanity or slowly just letting go and giving in to the threat. It keeps you wondering, and worrying for her. Married couple Mac and Jane (Jason Alan Smith and Carlee Avers, reunited from Mongillo's DIANE) each experience increasing strangeness from co-workers, as well as a bizarre morning chat between Mac and neighbor Bill (Tony Todd of another claustrophobic horror NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD - 1990). When new neighbor Sara jogs by (Olivia Freer) and stops to chat with Bill as he's leaving, her glances over at Mac made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. While that wasn't horrifying, my body told me this was going to get weird. Jane's experience at work escalates quickly, then the nightmare truly begins.

While the three converge at Mac and Jane's home, Kim's gruff uncle Kurt (Doug Tompos) arrives and adds to the tension that's already strong. As the threat of something taking over the population closes in on the four trapped in the house, with Bill and Sara equally being representatives -- ambassadors? -- of the Change and seductively trying to convince the four that this new consciousness is the best for all. Is it a virus? Is it aliens? Is it a cult of mass brainwashing?

THE CHANGED doesn't try to wow you with big nor gooey CGI special effects and big shiny Hollywood antics. Mongillo's approach is more direct, with dialogue that keeps you paying attention and keeping you on edge as things start snowballing, which is basically right away and just keeps getting more intense as it goes along. That's quite a feat, and a film that will linger in your mind. As Michael Mongillo creates more films, it will be interesting to see which different beast (or "Michael Mongillo Conspiracy") comes next. I'll be looking forward to owning one on disc in the future for my special collection.

Not THAT bad.

Everyone's dumping on this movie like it's a college film student's final project gone wrong, but if you watch tons and tons of horror movies, you should know that this is a mostly competent film by comparison to the movies that were filmed on an iPhone 4.

Camera works is good, lighting is on point, performances are decent enough, and audio sounds good.

Where this movie falls short is that it feels more like a snippet of a bigger anthology movie, like something you'd see squeezed into one of the Creepshow films, or V/H/S anthologies as if someone told the filmmaker of this to "Make your segment like Body Snatchers", and this is what we got.

It's entertaining, but it feels like it's holding itself back. You can do SO much worse than this film though, so don't believe all of the 1/10 stars.

2010 Homemade film vibes

This is the worst movie I have seen in my entire life, the concept is a great idea but the acting and the plot is so sloppy and cheesy. The way the movie starts is so out of the blue and immediate. Less than two minutes in, the three main characters are all "somethings not right, people are acting so weird, how would you know something like that hmmm??" Definition of cheesy, if a bot had written this movie and took random people off the street to play in it i wouldn't be surprised.

What a waste of film.

The movie trailer looked like this would be a good rental. However, appearances can be deceiving and with this film, they definitely are. It had a familiar feel to invasion of the body snatchers. At least with that movie, you know who wins! I'm not going to reveal the ending because I don't do spoilers. The ending will anger you. That's all I'm saying. Please restrain yourself into thinking this is a good movie just from the trailer... because it isn't. Trust me. Peace.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen!

Poor Tony Todd. He should not have to be involved in a stinker like this movie. It is pure amateur (except for Tony). Terrible, boring writing. Nothing happens. The dialogue is comical. Not even gold old Tony can save this amateur snorefest.

This Is pure garbage. Watch " The Invasion " instead

This movie is garbage like it's not worth wasting your time . It's not even bad in a funny way . Granted me and my lady friend sat through the movie but , we had hope it would get better ... it did not . The script is really cheesy to the point , it feels like they wrote three sentences a scene and had to find some way to fill in the blanks . Okay that's an exaggeration but the script is horrible and I still need two hundred characters before I can submit this review . I am really adamant about saving anyone from watching this movie as I wish someone would have done for me .

The only good thing about this movie is if you have the imagination to recreate this scenario in your head to create a nice hypothetical conversation . Please just watch " The Invasion "

The Changed might appeal to Tony Todd fans, but it doesn't offer much beyond his performance.

I recently watched The Changed (2021) on Tubi. The storyline follows a mysterious outbreak that transforms people into eerie, emotionless shells of their former selves. These infected individuals work to persuade others to join their ranks. A group of survivors hides in their home, capturing one of the infected in hopes of understanding their motives and finding a way out of their dire situation.

Directed by Michael Mongillo (The Wind), the film stars Clare Foley (Gotham), Tony Todd (Candyman), Jason Alan Smith (Before I Wake), Carlee Avers (Veronica Mars), and Doug Tompos (Masters of Sex).

While the concept shows promise, the execution leaves much to be desired. The movie heavily relies on a psychological cat-and-mouse game, with Tony Todd as the infected antagonist engaging in verbal battles with the uninfected. Though Todd delivers a strong performance and elevates the dialogue, the film suffers from its limited scope. Most of the runtime is confined to a single room, and the lack of dynamic action or meaningful interaction with other infected characters hinders the overall impact.

The infected design is solid and menacing, but the tension fizzles due to lackluster pacing and uninspired action sequences. The few shooting scenes fail to deliver the intensity the premise demands.

In conclusion, The Changed might appeal to Tony Todd fans, but it doesn't offer much beyond his performance. I'd score it a 3/10 and recommend it only for die-hard fans of the actor.

Neighborhood watch defined perfectly

Don't listen to anybody this movie is incredible serious gang stalking vibes. Whoever wrote this knows all about it. Even people in black hoods and black running around. There's some truth in every movie I'm just saying.. walking around as a targeted individual you feel like everyone is an alien they act weird they talk weird they move weird and that's what it is they're trying to change you into a better person with their evil beyond sickening and vile. This is definitel worth watchingy I'm so glad I chose it.. the acting and it was very good and it was very believable. Kind of reminded me of a Black mirror episode.

Annoying female lead

There's a movie I started watching on Tubi a few years back that I made it maybe 10 minutes in and was done. I left my IMDB review on it but can't remember the name. There are some others as well. So, with that being written, I cannot say this is the worst movie I've ever seen.

After browsing through trailers, I found this one and said to myself, finally, my kind of movie. It looked like a pretty good movie. Seeing Tony Todd on the cover (clever move) and in the trailer, I just knew it was gonna be a great movie. It was also genred as horror. Well, to my not so shocked surprise, it was neither of those things. I'm not going to say too much more. There are enough comments before me that express my sentiments exactly. However, one thing I will say is, Jane I think her name is...that lady who played her and the character herself were absolutely irritating. She got on my everlasting nerve. Kurt was annoying as well. All the characters were typical, blah, blah. No character arch....look, I doubt they were aiming for the an Emmy so you get what you got and it is what it is.

Welp, at least it's short...

...but somehow by the end, it felt like it was never going to end. Every time you thought they were finally going to stop the pain, they added another scene with increasingly bad dialogue. Everyone in the movie seemed to hate each other and yelled constantly, and I would have had the same reaction if my agent has signed me up for this movie - always read the full script, kids. The characters immediately accepted an alien invasion was happening, which is laughable because after the last 10 years, what alien species would actually want us?

It gets one extra star for the late great Tony Todd, who clearly had a sudden expense he needed to pay for.
