The Game Chasers Movie

I'm not sure what happened with the production, writing or acting. The sound is even weird. That said, it's hard to believe they didn't intentionally try to make such a bad movie. Everything that's bad is further amplified by the run time. I heard the amount raised for this was north of 300k. Where did all that money go? This was a really hard movie to find and review as well. I think they are trying to bury it, because it is that bad. It is very bad. The high praise reviews make no sense to me as this is objectively one of the worst, if not the worst movie I have ever seen. I won't get into spoilers as there isn't much of anything interesting to spoil. The only redeeming quality might be for college film students as a cautionary tale on what not to do.

This movie is exactly what it's supposed to be, dumb, charming, nostalgic and funny, what more could you ask for from some of the silliest game loving maniacs on YouTube. Do yourself a favor and watch this flick, then bust out you NES and remember what it was like to have pure joy in your hands.

As a low budget independent film made by 1st time filmmakers its actually pretty good for what it is. The plot is basically a throwback to those cross country adventure films from the 80s, with the best comparison probably being Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

The plot is well paced and the script mostly works. The comedy is hit or miss, but mostly hits with laughs throughout. The cinematography is shot well. The special effects are better then most independent films. The weakest aspect is probably the acting, but in no way is it bad or hinders the movie.

All in all its a good movie. I think most fans of The Game Chasers will really enjoy it. In reality even those that have never heard of them should get some enjoyment from it. If you temper your expectations and know what you are getting into its well worth the ride.

That said I was very impressed with the movie. Well shot, impressive acting from a core of amateurs with pros sprinkled throughout, a gripping plot with that trademark Game Chasers comedy. Whilst doing a good job not to exclude any audience members unfamiliar with their online content. I was thouroughly entertained and it reminded me of how I felt after seeing Haggard by the CKY crew.

It excites me that a low budget indy movie can reach such a high quality of production. It makes film making feel accessible again just like it did in the early 2000s.

If you're coming into this movie blind to their YouTube stuff my advice would be to remember that this is a passion project and not a Corporate Hollywood blockbuster.

I have been a fan for the last 10 years, and this movie had me laughing from start to finish, yes its a indie movie, and yes it shines through on more that one occation, but does it really matter? Dave was really funny in this too, great actor. High five boys!
