- Kevin Ryman: And so the town was gone just like that, with a quick empty flash of light.
- Kevin Ryman: Maybe I'm getting old, but I really don't remember what I was feeling when I saw the town go up in flames.
- Kevin Ryman: Then again, it's not like I forgot what happened.
- Kevin Ryman: It's just that I'm the type of guy who focuses on the now, not ancient history.
- Kevin Ryman: Sometimes, I think human beings are worse than animals.
- Kevin Ryman: They put their own selfish needs above the well-being of others.
- Kevin Ryman: Not that I'm really any different - I'm always looking out for number one, myself.
- Kevin Ryman: Whoa, escaping that plant-infested hell was a rush.
- Kevin Ryman: I don't have time to sit and talk about it.
- Kevin Ryman: If I don't get out of this town soon, the virus will get the best of me and I'll join those plants myself.
- Kevin Ryman: We made it out of that hive; that's where our luck ran out.
- Kevin Ryman: Just ahead, a train was blocking our path, and we had to pull back.
- Kevin Ryman: I tell you what, this crap is getting old real quick.
- Kevin Ryman: I'll still be a cop.
- Kevin Ryman: Raccoon can change all it wants.
- Kevin Ryman: Deep down, I'll still be a cop.
- Kevin Ryman: Here we go again, getting a little sick of this.
- Kevin Ryman: No time for complaints; we've got to push on and do what we need to do to get the hell out of here.
- Kevin Ryman: What the hell, you've got to be kidding me.
- Kevin Ryman: We're headed right back into town.
- Kevin Ryman: What's up with this world, man?
- Kevin Ryman: It's almost like someone's trying to stop us from escaping.
- Kevin Ryman: You don't need to worry about him, Rita.
- Kevin Ryman: He was born to be a cop.
- Kevin Ryman: It'll take a lot more than that to stop a tough guy like him.
- Kevin Ryman: Hell, we haven't even finished training the new recruits yet, right, Marvin?
- Kevin Ryman: Right now I'm headed to Miami.
- Kevin Ryman: New job, new city.
- Kevin Ryman: Of course, I work enough as it is.
- Kevin Ryman: Damn, nice weather though, this oughta be fun.
- Kevin Ryman: It wasn't a bad part of town really; even a good-for-nothing son of a bitch like me might be able to get a few jollies there.
- Kevin Ryman: I shouldn't allow myself to think like that.
- Kevin Ryman: It was no time to think of having fun.
- Cindy Lennox: It was such a relief to breathe freely again after that ordeal.
- Cindy Lennox: We got lucky that time.
- Cindy Lennox: Getting out of this city is still a long way off.
- Cindy Lennox: I can't give up now.
- Cindy Lennox: The hospital and all the memories that went with it disappeared before our eyes.
- Cindy Lennox: We can't forget what we've learned here.
- Cindy Lennox: As much as it hurts, simply pretending it never happened hurts more.
- Cindy Lennox: I've got to get a grip on the situation.
- Cindy Lennox: Looks like we didn't make it out of town after all.
- Cindy Lennox: Oh well, there'll be plenty of time to be depressed over this once I'm out of here.
- Cindy Lennox: I was so sleepy.
- Cindy Lennox: I only wanted to lie down and take a nap.
- Cindy Lennox: Just a little further, and my dreams would be realized.
- Cindy Lennox: I can't believe I was that naive.
- Cindy Lennox: No matter how tightly I shut my eyes, I simply couldn't erase what I had already seen.
- Cindy Lennox: The sound of the landslide was swallowed up by the fog.
- Cindy Lennox: All living things eventually die; the hospital itself was no different.
- Cindy Lennox: All things have a purpose; there's a reason for everything.
- Cindy Lennox: That's what they say, isn't it?
- Cindy Lennox: But I can't accept that.
- Cindy Lennox: There's no way I can look at this as a happy ending.
- Cindy Lennox: Yeah, I just decided that it's time to start something new, you know?
- Cindy Lennox: You really should come by.
- Cindy Lennox: Everything that happened was real.
- Cindy Lennox: The events that unfolded before my eyes will haunt my dreams for many months to come, but I take solace in knowing that surviving this tragedy has somehow made me a stronger person.
- Cindy Lennox: Time waits for neither man nor woman, so worrying over past regrets is pointless.
- Cindy Lennox: We spent almost a whole day out there in the woods.
- Cindy Lennox: It turned out that we had no choice but to go back to town, but I can't give up hope now, not after all I've gone through.
- Mark Wilkins: Hospitals, they're supposed to be a safe haven, a place of hope, but humanity can turn any place into a living hell.
- Mark Wilkins: I understand that more than others; my old scars remind me of that.
- Mark Wilkins: My old man used to say that there ain't a place left on this earth that isn't a war-torn battlefield.
- Mark Wilkins: After being out of the service for so long, I forgot that little saying.
- Mark Wilkins: This though is worse than even the hell I'd seen at Nam.
- Mark Wilkins: It's as if the darkness was laughing at us, though we have no time to waste.
- Mark Wilkins: When we came up against another dead end, hope was hard to come by in times like this.
- Mark Wilkins: The night sky I hadn't seen in so long was clouded over; somewhere my wife and son are looking at the very same sky.
- Mark Wilkins: Please, please let them be alright, and I promise I'll make it home to them.
- Mark Wilkins: I could fill a book with all the regrets and bad memories of those days, but being there, surrounded by all that death and decay, taught me one important lesson that I didn't even learn in Nam: that in the power to protect the people, the ones you love, lay true valor and righteousness.
- Mark Wilkins: It's my duty to survive and tell this tale.
- Mark Wilkins: Nothing new with me, just as dull as ever.
- Mark Wilkins: Of course, that hardly means I'm looking for a little adventure or anything.
- Mark Wilkins: I can't shake this sense of déjà vu.
- Mark Wilkins: I swear I've seen this part of the road before.
- Mark Wilkins: We just keep walking and walking and getting nowhere.
- Mark Wilkins: We'd better get back to town before the VC snipers take us out.
- Mark Wilkins: The memories from that steamy jungle come rushing back with all the power of a freight train.
- Mark Wilkins: No matter how many times I hear it, it's a sound that I can't get used to.
- Mark Wilkins: All the guilt, all the blame rests with those of us who came out of that hell alive.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: So there you are, my dear.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: My dear, dear Dorothy, I'll never leave your side again.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: I don't get many visitors around here.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: I hear the city's in quite a state right about now.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: Well, there is an old road through these woods that leads to the neighboring town.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: It's easy to get lost, I'm afraid.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: Let me show you the way.
- Al Lester, the Axe Man: Let's hope no one gets hurt; it's not like there's a decent hospital around here after all.
- [laughs]
- Mark Wilkins: I don't like hospitals; the smell gives me a headache, but this time I had to deal with shit much scarier than a shot in the arm.
- Mark Wilkins: If I make it out of this alive, I suppose I don't have any excuses to put off that physical now.
- Jim Chapman: I never liked hospitals, and I sure as hell don't like them any better now.
- Jim Chapman: Every time I smell disinfectant, I'll remember the hell we went through today.
- Jim Chapman: Even catching a cold now will seem like a matter of life and death.
- Jim Chapman: As usual, I can hear the zombies moaning someplace far away.
- Jim Chapman: Getting out of that subway sure feels good, and to think I used to complain about the rush hour crowd.
- Jim Chapman: Are you sure there was nothing you could do?
- Jim Chapman: If anyone asked me that later, this is what I'm gonna say: don't ask a question you can't take back, cause what's said is said, and some things you never forget.
- Jim Chapman: That's what I'll say.
- Jim Chapman: Huh, what?
- Jim Chapman: Oh yeah, you were just asking what I was up to, right?
- Jim Chapman: Getting ready to start work again.
- Jim Chapman: Hold up, now that's what I'm talking about-the ones with the red stripe over on the right side of the third shelf.
- Jim Chapman: Huh?
- Jim Chapman: Oh, sorry, I was just talking.
- George Hamilton: As a doctor, I must always be at a certain level of preparedness for dealing with such circumstances.
- George Hamilton: I wouldn't consider myself a patriot, but I couldn't just watch people suffer without lending a hand.
- George Hamilton: But alas, there are limits to that altruistic side of me.
- George Hamilton: Not just people or animals; now even plants were a threat.
- George Hamilton: Making our way through the underground world of roots and vegetation, that image will stay with me forever.
- George Hamilton: Usually I'm the one people can count on to assess a situation with a cool head, but there are times when that skill becomes irrelevant.
- George Hamilton: If I were an optimist, I'd be thankful for this chance to be considered useful.
- George Hamilton: I suppose it's normal to want to flaunt one's genius, but sometimes that leads to sad displays like those I witnessed today.
- George Hamilton: Even a doctor as trivial as myself must never forget there are consequences.
- George Hamilton: Hard work really does pay off sometimes; getting past those bugs was no easy task, though it still looks like a warm bed is a long way off.
- George Hamilton: The memories still linger.
- George Hamilton: I wish I could say this was the obvious price for mankind to pay for trying to play god.
- George Hamilton: Yet even though I cannot condone such actions, certainly no action deserves retribution to this extent.
- George Hamilton: However, I did learn one thing: that mankind, myself included, must learn from our mistakes.
- George Hamilton: Unable to make our way through the woods, we're forced to head back the way we came.
- George Hamilton: We can only expect the powers that be to grant us so many chances to escape.
- George Hamilton: The end of the world is upon us, and I fear there's not much time left.
- George Hamilton: The futility of our actions was all I could think about.
- George Hamilton: It weighed down on my soul like an anchor.
- George Hamilton: We made decisions the circumstances dictated and left the rest up to fate.
- George Hamilton: That reasoning things out logically doesn't alleviate the guilt and regret.
- George Hamilton: I've been thinking about dropping by the university research lab sometime soon.
- George Hamilton: There are a few things I've been meaning to look into.
- George Hamilton: I should be quite busy.
- Jim Chapman: Shit that was supposed to have helped us.
- Jim Chapman: Oh, Jim's one unlucky dude, but even I ain't never felt that betrayed by lady luck.
- Jim Chapman: I remember thinking that it couldn't get any worse.
- Jim Chapman: I'm the only one around here that knows anything about the subway.
- Jim Chapman: They think we can get out of town this way?
- Jim Chapman: Shit, the subway don't go nowhere but down.
- Jim Chapman: That hospital was one place I hope I do forget.
- Jim Chapman: If I ever get out of here, that crazy axe guy, man-eating plants-hell, I'm surprised we didn't see ghosts as well.
- Jim Chapman: Not that I needed any more shit to deal with.
- Jim Chapman: It's like a funky horror movie complete with an explosive climax and hold-onto-your-seat ending.
- Jim Chapman: I wouldn't be surprised to hear some narrator's voice, but the fight was only the beginning.
- Jim Chapman: I don't wanna have to put myself through this kind of zombie shit again.
- Jim Chapman: You only get one chance at life-screw that!
- Jim Chapman: I wanna spend the rest of mine having fun.
