Racing games aren't really my thing, unless they fall under the gimmicky umbrella such as Mario Kart or other battle style car games. For this reason I've never liked the Need for Speed games, to me they're just chavvy generic games where wannabe racer boys can customize their car to look as trashy as possible complete with ridiculous spoiler.
I ended up getting Most Wanted and I don't even remember quite why and being frankly blown away. Fine, put aside the street racing "Isn't it cool to be a criminal" childishness and all the customization (Which actually I enjoyed to an extent) and you've got the police evasion addition and I really quite liked it.
Generic racing is a plenty sure, but it looked good for its time and had a killer soundtrack. These types of games usually have nothing but moronic dance "Music" sided with rap but here there was lots of rock/metal including Bullet For My Valentine and Static X.
So racing around this impressive city, with those tracks blasting and the adrenaline of evading the army of police cars behind me while at the same time dodging sets of spikes tossed across my path?! Great stuff.
Truth be told there hasn't been another Need For Speed game I've enjoyed since, not even the reboot of this very title from 2012. But we'll always have this wonderful little gem.
The Good:
Great soundtrack
Looks great
Police evasion is a lot of fun
The Bad:
Still just a Need For Speed game at its core
I feel chavvy just playing it

I'm very sad cause many underestimate Most Wanted, calling it worst NFS game ever. Well, nonsense!!! This it the game Hot Pursuit always should've been. GFX is truly special, much better than Underground series, with sun out and bye bye midnight darkness. The best thing is reflecting effect of the sun on the road and even trees wave slowly on wind. Sound is also on the level, cars sound authentic, the best example is Aston Martin which is sooo good recorded that GT or Forza can be ashamed. Even every tuning stage reproduce new engine sound. Car list is bigger and this time exotics and muscle are also back! And you can tune them up too!!! There is difference between RWD, FWD and AWD cars, as RWD with a lot of torque must be launched gently or they'll spin and AWDs have fastest launch and best handling. YES, there is difference in handling EVEN if you've tuned handling to max. Guys telling you otherwise haven't played game long enough to realize it. AND YES cars handle MUCH better than in U2. Of course it's far from realism, but those who want realism can play GT or Forza. Need for speed gives you MUCH better sense of speed and action. Oh, and unlike Underground series, you don't have to pimp your ride to make progress, pimping has a purpose - to fool the cops so they can't recognize you. Story is also good, although a little but too less Josie Maran FMV. She is absolutely gorgeous and by far THE BEST NFS girl out there. As for the best part of the game - police chases, they are phenomenal. Fast and so much adrenalin packed, you won't believe. Once you hit higher heat levels, tougher and faster cop chases are gonna get - and suddenly it will click - the cars have to respond like they do - fast and smooth, easy to control and regain control if you lost it, yet they have weight and crash like they normally would (you can feel the weight and they slow down drastically) - unlike U2 where crashes where like small plastic cars crashes... Nice story, Cool GFX and Sound, great rides and tuning, phenomenal speed sensation and pursuits, and the best NFS girl ever - Josie Maran. Gameplay - 10+. My opinion and 2 cents...

This game was amazing, running from the cops and taking on the black list, only to blast off end leave it all in the end. Seriously awesome game back in the day.

Before I go and write down what the 3 versions I mentioned before are like, Let me just say that NFS: most wanted should definitely be the face for racing games everywhere. The graphics are amazing, the story is enjoyable, and the gameplay is fun and addicting.
Following the line of games from NFS: Underground, NFS: Underground 2, NFS most wanted and NFS: carbon, You've just left Bayview City to come to Rockport City to challenge the blacklist, the toughest racers around. Unfortunately, your first day in the City, you meet with RPD's toughest cop, Sergeant Cross. He keys your car, leaving to deal with a dangerous pursuit. in the days that follow, you win races to enter a blacklist race against Razor, one of the meanest street racers around. He secretly screws up your car, and wins the race, taking your car as a prize. after seeing him leave, the police arrive and haul you off to jail.
However, you are sprung out of the joint, because there's no proof you were involved with the street racing. You are picked up by Mia, who is willing to help you get your car back, in exchange to make side bets on your races to get rich. she supports you with safehouses, and a ride to the car shops for a brand new car. from here the game starts. it's up to you to defeat the whole blacklist and get back your car from Razor, who has used that car to go to the top.
GAMECUBE VERSION
The Gamecube version is probably the worst port of all. The graphics aren't as good, There's no online play and the Soundtrack is badly butchered, due to the size of Gamecube discs. However, the controls are pretty good and the Game doesn't freeze as often as the other versions.
PLAYSTATION 2 VERSION
The Playstation 2 version is probably the one i'd recommend, due to it's availability and improved graphics over the Gamecube. On top of that, the soundtrack is all there. Unfortunately, sometimes the controller can be a pain. I don't know if it's just my controller, but sometimes the X button fails (I noticed the same problem in NFS: Carbon) and it doesn't happen on just one controller. So the right joystick is a decent alternative for an accelerator. Another thing, some copies of the game freeze, so it's kind of frustrating when you make it to the end, and the game freezes. some copies do that, others don't.
XBOX 360 VERSION
In terms of graphics, this version blows the others way thanks to HD compatibility. In terms of soundtrack, you can have your own. just go to the Xbox 360's Music player, play your own music, and you're all set. The controls are also spot on, thanks to a good controller. the only 2 problems I have with this game, is that it freezes on occasion (but unlike some of the PS2 discs, you can get to the end of the game) and the real-time sun movement is really a pain, especially during a sunrise or a sunset. the sun gets in your eyes and you can't see where you're going.
---
Bottom line, this game is a milestone in gaming (i'm not kidding) and I recommend you play it, no matter who you are.

First of all, I know this is about 3 years late and you're probably a successful businessman or IT guy, but I just need to say this and it's better late than never, right? So I realise you may not like this game, but I think you're missing the point. If you haven't won any races after winning it? you must suck. Sorry. I'm not at all a gamer and even I can do it. And the bad physics and weird things like that don't matter, it's supposed to be a fun little game to just play around on. You want realistic? Hell you've got Forza. Any more realistic and you'd actually be in a car.
Anyhoo...the point is NFS is where you get to do crazy stupid things, like go into a turn at 300kph and somehow get around. Or sometimes crash and look like an idiot.
In the end, fair enough if you don't like it.
And btw, it stands up very well over time. Have a good life :D

This game that i played is so awesome! Better than the 2012 version and the recent NFS games. The cops in this game are smart and the fact that i can restart a race and earn more money to buy a new car is so, honestly, and artistically, awesome. Not only that, but the fact that i can access through a rap sheet and show off my records to theirs is pretty awesome and fun. Alright, here's the review. I recommend this game.

First, the gameplay and graphics are wonderful. The story was enjoyable and the actors were quite good (except the Mia actress). The game is addicting and has many great cars. I do wish they would add Saleen Mustangs and Roush Mustangs. Also, I would love to be able to choose to be a female driver with a handsome "significant other" rather than Mia, who I am not attracted to since I am not a lesbian. I do find this sexist. One thing I love about the "Fast And Furious" films because they have strong female leads who drive just as well (if not better) than the men. Le'ts see these games do that.
That said, there were a few things so wrong. First, Cross's female partner was all wrong. The actress was OK, but female cops are not allowed to dress like that! The fact that she was in a marked police car with lights and siren tell you she was not undercover; therefore, her attire was inappropriate.
Also, NFS: Underground 2 had so many many many many vinyls and body kit items to choose from; but this one had so much fewer and we could not layer the vinyls. I really loved those old splash-style vinyls and want those back! Finally, I am so tired of the perfection of opponent drivers; they are much too perfect: they seldom crash, they always avoid traffic, and when they rarely do crash they recover immediately. Also, I sometimes see that I very far ahead and then at the last moment another car gets this big boost of speed and zips by as if I am suddenly on a bicycle! Jeff Gordon couldn't even do that and we all know how good a driver he is.

Need for speed most wanted is the best Nfs game I've even played. It was perfect. It was perfect. Perfect. Down the last minute detail. I first played it when I was 7 and ever since I have loved it. It is timeless. I have probably completed the game at least 5 times and I do not regret it.

I played NFS MW 2005 first on my PSP . I absolutely fell in love with the concept. Beat several bosses, get their cars and finally reach the final boss and beat him, not to forget the police chases in each race that was something unique for me in those days as i never played a car racing game with police in them (ya ya i know, roadrash was there but that was bike racing).
Here's what i loved. As i mentioned, the several bosses and the grind to get a chance to fight them was amazing. The satisfaction i used to get after beating them and using their top class cars was unmatched. I liked how the PSP version kept the car and their owner bosses hidden and with increasing tier, it slowly slowly reveals their identity which made me very excited to see what car they possessed. For example, let's say Ming, the boss. When you start the game initially, you can't see his face and his car as it is blurred totally. As you progress up, the blue starts to slowly unblur and you get excited with the slow peekaboo of his car until after a certain tier , his face and car is fully revealed.
The soundtrack always is my favourite. Metal heavy and full of tune and flavor. No other nfs has soundtrack even close to NFS MW. Blinded in chains is always my fav.
In my PSP, i was never able to beat Razor and something happened after which the game got deleted from my PSP. But after 10 years, i got my hands on MW pc version.
I was surprised to see how different the pc version was. The open world concept was missing in psp. I loved the open world concept in the pc version. Also, i found many bosses had different cars from that of the psp version. Also, in pc version, there was no way to get a peekaboo into future bosses which was possible in psp version. Rest all were same and it was in pc version i finally beat Razor.
Best nfs game ever.

If I had to choose one game from the entire "Need for Speed" series that stuck in my soul more than the rest, I would undoubtedly call "Most Wanted" 2005. It was not just a racing simulator, but a real movie story about roaring engines, chases on the verge of madness and a desperate struggle for the right to be the best. When I first got behind the wheel in this virtual world, I realized: This is not a game - it is a work of art created with a love of speed.
The plot of "Most Wanted" does not leave anyone indifferent. You are a mysterious newcomer who comes to Rockport City, dreaming of conquering the local world of illegal racing. From the very first minutes, the game immerses in intense action. The opening scene with the first car, the legendary BMW M3 GTR, instantly creates the feeling that you are participating in something big. This is one of those cases where the beginning of the game is remembered forever. The loss of the car due to the treachery of Razor, a cunning and sneaky racer, becomes an emotional bond that drives the protagonist throughout the campaign. To get your car back and dethrone Razor from the top of the Blacklist (the list of the best racers in the city), you will have to defeat all its participants. Each name on this list is not just a rival, but a real person who is associated with special challenges and races. The plot heats up motivation, adding more drama to the game than you would expect from a racing simulator. The charming Mia Towns, played by actress Josie Maran, will help along the course of the plot. I remember her well from the movie Van Helsing as one of Dracula's vampires. Here she also acts as the protagonist's companion, periodically telling the hero how the racing world works. The beauty will also play an important role in the finale. In general, the recorded videos and the successful integration of real actors into the painted world of the game look decent. It doesn't leave the feeling that you are watching a series about racing, where the gameplay is diluted with plot inserts, which significantly saturates the story. The actors did their best, giving a decent performance.
The gameplay in the game is an adrenaline cocktail that is hard to forget. The player is waiting for lap races, sprints, drag and, of course, iconic chases with the police. Every race is a challenge. The game skillfully combines the freedom of movement in an open city with intense competitions, where every decision you make can be decisive.
The goal is simple: conquer the Blacklist by climbing its steps. To do this, you need to earn respect by winning races and collect "criminal" points in chases with the police. The higher the search level, the harder it is to break away from the cops, and the stronger the feeling that you are literally playing with fire.
The mechanics in the game are thought out to the smallest detail. Different types of races offer a variety: from sprints on straight tracks to roundabouts with treacherous turns. The "Speedtrap" mode deserves special mention, where the winner is the one who passes the checkpoints at maximum speed. By the end of the race, the speed on each checkpoint is summed up, and the winner is the one whose total speed was higher. And then there's the "Tollbooth" - a race against time, where every second is worth its weight in gold, when you have to get to the points of payment of the road at a certain time. At the final difficulty levels, this is sometimes a challenge.
But the main decoration of the game is the police. The cops' return to the series was a real highlight. At first, the chase looks simple: a couple of patrol cars are trying to stop the racer. But as the search level increases, everything becomes more serious. In the next levels, off-road vehicles will start cutting you off, barricades with spikes will appear, and a helicopter will shine menacingly in the sky. It's an art form to remain uninhibited in such circumstances.
One of the striking details of "Most Wanted" is the destruction system. Barriers, billboards, water towers, and even huge donut signs can all be used to throw the cops off their tail. These elements of the environment add even more dynamics and strategic depth to the races. It's especially nice when you manage to bring something down on several cops' cars at once. This innovation in the game was very welcome. Besides, the city is full of hidden places and shortcuts. Gas stations, car dealerships, construction sites - all these locations become an advantage if you know how to use them. The feeling of joy from a successful maneuver and the subsequent search by the police is difficult to describe in words.
The fleet of "Most Wanted" is impressive: from modest average people to elite supercars. Personally, I have always preferred the Audi TT for its agility and penetration in racing with cops and the Lamborghini Murcielago for its incredible power. Every car feels different, and choosing a car becomes not just a matter of taste, but a strategic decision.
The tuning system is another reason to love "Most Wanted". You can customize the car for yourself: change the color, add cool wheels, install an aerodynamic body kit or upgrade the engine. The appearance of a car is just as important as its characteristics.
Rockport City is not just a map, but a full-fledged living world. The developers refused to change the time of day, focusing on the constant autumn sun. The city is filled with the atmosphere of late October: golden leaves, long shadows and a light haze create a special mood.
For those who want to take a break from the story mode, there is a separate race mode. You can choose from a dozen challenges, get behind the wheel of different cars and take a ride for a while, or get away from the police in different situations, which the game offers. This is a small but pleasant addition that allows you to diversify the gameplay.
The game is remembered not only for its racing, but also for its amazing soundtrack. Musical compositions perfectly complemented the atmosphere of the game. These tracks sound so energetic that you want to press the accelerator pedal even harder (fortunately, the "forward" button has its limitations). The music here is a separate participant in the race, who constantly pushes.
It is worth mentioning the artificial intelligence in the game. The police officers in "Most Wanted" have clearly been trained in the best academies: They work together, build fences and use different tactics to stop the rider. I especially remember the moments when the cops begin to coordinate, squeezing the car from all sides or forcing it to fly into a trap.
The rivals in the races, by the way, are also not far behind. Each of the Blacklisted riders has their own character and riding style. For example, some people like to exhaust an opponent by slowly tightening up on turns, while others rely on aggression, pushing and trying to throw him off the track.
The creators have come up with a good progress system. To challenge another opponent from the Blacklist, it is not enough just to win the races. You need to fulfill a number of conditions: earn "criminal" points, win a certain number of races of a certain type and gain a reputation. This approach makes the game more intense and forces you to constantly improve.
It is worth mentioning the vivid images of the Blacklisted racers. Each of them is memorable due to its unique presentation. Razor is a cold-blooded and cynical antagonist who literally makes you hate him. Others are presented through atmospheric videos. Mia, your partner, plays the role of a connecting link and adds a bit of emotional depth to the narrative. These characters become an important part of the game, making it not just a racing simulator, but a real drama on wheels.
"Need for Speed: Most Wanted" remains the benchmark of racing games for me personally. She not only gave unforgettable impressions, but also set a high standard of quality, which is not achieved after decades, even by the studio-creator with the help of other projects. It's not just a game, it's an era. Every detail, from the plot to the mechanics, has been thought out to give the players maximum enjoyment. For me, the game will always be the best in the series (I don't believe anything cooler will be released), and I admit that I'm happy to return to it to feel that genuine excitement of speed again.
10 out of 10.

Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) is a true legend and one of the best installments in the entire Need for Speed franchise. This game brought a lot of changes compared to previous versions, adding freshness and new features to the series. Despite being released years ago, its impact on the racing game genre is undeniable, and it remains highly relevant to this day.
One of the key reasons why Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) is so iconic is its open world. Compared to previous titles, the game's world became significantly larger and more diverse, allowing players to freely explore the city and its surroundings. This added a new level of freedom and depth to the gameplay, as players were no longer confined to just participating in races - they could simply enjoy free-roaming, discovering new routes and areas. This approach made it feel more like a real journey rather than just a series of races, as it was before.
Another new feature introduced in the game was that the races take place during the day, unlike the night-time races seen in previous installments like Need for Speed Underground. This radically changed the game's atmosphere, giving it a different vibe. Players could now enjoy the bright landscapes and impressive graphics during the daylight races, providing a fresh visual experience. It also added an extra challenge to the gameplay, as more obstacles appeared, such as traffic and police patrols, which were easier to spot during the day.
However, despite all the advantages, there are a few aspects that might disappoint some fans. Firstly, car customization in this game became somewhat limited compared to previous versions. In Underground, players had a wide variety of options for modifying their cars - from aesthetic changes to performance upgrades - but in Most Wanted, the customization options were reduced. This might be a letdown for those who enjoyed spending hours creating a unique look for their vehicle. Despite this, the basic customization options remain, and players can still tweak the appearance of their cars, although not to the same extent as before.
Another aspect that might upset fans of the series is the fact that drift races were removed from this installment. This mode of racing was a favorite for many players, especially in the earlier titles, and its absence in Most Wanted could have been a disappointment. Drifting provided a special thrill thanks to its technicality and spectacle, and its exclusion from this game slightly limited the variety of gameplay.
On the bright side, it's worth noting that the AI opponents in the game have become much tougher and more intelligent compared to previous installments. This made the races much more intense and challenging. Now, winning a race became a true test of skill, as your opponents no longer let you easily pass them. They actively try to block your victory, adding more adrenaline to every race. But it's not just the opponents that got smarter - the police also became a serious threat. Police chases in Most Wanted became one of the most defining and exciting aspects of the game. However, it's worth mentioning that sometimes the AI controlling the police can be unpredictable and not entirely logical, leading to moments of confusion. Occasionally, the police act too aggressively or, conversely, completely ignore your maneuvers.
As for the storyline, the game doesn't aim to impress with complex narratives. Like many racing games, the story is more of a secondary element, providing context for the events happening on the screen. It's a classic tale of a racer going head-to-head with the law, where you have to climb to the top of the city's most-wanted list of illegal street racers. The story is rather predictable, but it's not the main focus of the game - the real highlight is the thrill of speed and adrenaline, which accompanies every race.
Overall, Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) is a game that truly deserves its legendary status. Despite a few drawbacks, such as reduced customization or the absence of drift races, it more than makes up for it with exhilarating police chases, an open world, and unforgettable racing experiences. This game will always remain one of the greatest achievements in the Need for Speed series and is undoubtedly worth the attention of every fan of street racing games.

Well I beat this game and it was OK. First the pros, Cop chases, Cool cars, and nice graphics. The cons, your car will behave in VERY unpredictable ways spinning and sliding all over the place. Whenever you are in the lead the traffic will ALWAYS be in your way, very rarely in the other's way. If you get to much of a lead the A.I. cars WILL catch up to you no matter how good you drive. Once you beat the game then A.I. cars such as Cobalts and GTI's will outrun even the Murcielago that is all optioned out. I have played this game for several hours after beating it and cannot win any left over races. I had the Lamborghini up to 246 m.p.h and everyone kept up with me. If you hit a pursuit breaker in a race it will NOT slow the others down. If they hit it your WILL be slowed down. The Corvette is useless when it comes to accelerating from a stop, it will sit and spin itself around. The physics also are unpredictable. Follow a racer into a tight corner and you will slide he will not. I have played and won Forza Motorsports, i was not easy but the A.I. cars behave exactly as yours does. I have given this game away and have NO desire to play it again. I DO NOT recommend this game if you are used to a game like Forza or even Underground 2 which I will continue to play. However I must give it a 2 for reasons stated.
If there are any racing fans or non-racing fans out there. You will love this game. This game has everything a racing game should have. There is racing, rivals, chicks and of course, the need for speed. You play as a street racer and you win a lot of races until something goes wrong with your car, the rival you were racing has now got your car and what you need to do is to get your car back. You now have to work your way up the blacklist to race the rival again. The game can sometimes be hard to steer around corners but that means there is something wrong with your car. Other than that, this game is a must-have for everyone. This game would be better to play with on a steering wheel.

*Steering wheel* *Gas&Break* *Beamer with good projection*
You're ready to RIDE!
I've not been a fan of games or racing games before, but Need For Speed: Most Wanted is just too cool! It takes you in, makes you addicted within minutes (or seconds ;)) At first you really need to learn to drive, and make sure the sensitivity of your steering wheel is right. Once you get the feeling, it's amazing and just really really well done!
After losing your car in a race, you'll have to win in back by beating the racers on the Blacklist. Slowly you work your way up, beating the rivals and the cops! It all feels really realistic and it's cool how you'll get to know the world you're driving in.
Plus you get to pimp your ride :)
Only minus would be that there isn't enough of it ;) Oh and there are no people on the streets... would be cool to smash people ;) lol
Anyways, I highly recommend this game!
