This is included on the four-disc "Gone With the Wind" set. Unlike most of the other extras, this one is not particularly pretty. The print is pretty awful--faded and scratchy with degradation. And there is one other curious thing about it--the folks chosen to participate in the film. Now I know that by 1975 man of Gable's old friends were dead--but couldn't they have come up with more and better guests for this show than Andy Devine, William Wellman, Yvonne De Carlo, Adela Rogers St. Johns? What about old co-stars like Myrna Loy, Lana Turner, Greer Garson and many others who were still alive in 1975? And, while Wellman was a heck of a director, weren't there others who could have been interviewed as well. Strange, that's for sure.
The body of the film isn't bad, however. The film is a decent biography of Gable--talking about his personal and professional life. And, unlike some biographies, this is a warts and all version--or at least attempts to be as it does talk about his early marriages. Many biographies I've seen recently don't even mention multiple marriages or other personal problems of the stars. So, this is a plus.
My feeling is that this is a decent biography of Gable. I hope there are better ones out there, however, and if there aren't, there certainly should be considering he was such a huge star.
Not a very good print--scratchy and faded Peter Lawford narrates montage opening --odd assortment, as much more famous co-stars were alive at the time.
