Even after winning an Oscar, a Palme d’Or and six Cesar awards with Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” French producer Marie-Ange Luciani isn’t resting on her laurels. The Paris-based producer, who runs the company Les Films de Pierre, still strives to work with emerging filmmakers and newcomers, such as Laura Wandel, whose second feature, “Adam’s Sake,” opened this year’s Cannes Critics Week to warm reviews. She’s also cultivated relationships with established auteurs, such as Robin Campillo, who won Cannes’ 2017 Jury Prize with “Bpm (Beats Per Minute)” and opened Directors’ Fortnight this year with “Enzo,” which he finished after his close friend Laurent Cantet, the helmer of the Palme d’Or winning “The Class,” died before he could finish the drama.

Aside from developing Triet’s follow up to “Anatomy of a Fall,” Luciani is looking ahead at a busy 2026.

Beta Cinema has secured the international sales rights for the concentration camp drama “Each of Us,” starring Diane Kruger, whose credits include “In the Fade,” for which she won best actress in Cannes, “Inglourious Basterds,” and “Amrum,” which premieres this week in Cannes.

Other lead members of the cast include Carla Juri, Aida Folch and Ninel Geiger.

The film tells a story of survival, resistance and sorority in the Ravensbrück women’s concentration camp – the only one of its kind – during the final days of World War II.

“Each of Us” is directed by an all-female team of four European filmmakers: Anne Zohra Berrached (“24 Weeks”), Neus Ballús, Stina Werenfels (“Dora Or the Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents”) and Anna Jadowska.

Editor’s note: As a member of The Serpent Players repertory theater group in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, John Kani partnered with fellow Black actor Winston Ntshona and white playwright Athol Fugard in 1972 to write Sizwe Banzi Is Dead. The drama revolves around apartheid’s oppressive pass laws, which governed where Blacks could and could not work, live and not live, etc.

A year later, they wrote The Island, which is based on a true story and set in a prison not unlike the Robben Island institution where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years. Kani and Ntshona were the lone actors in both Fugard-directed plays.

Athol Fugard, the South African playwright of works including ” ‘Master Harold’…and the Boys,” ”The Road to Mecca,” “Boesman and Lena,” ”A Lesson From Aloes,” died on Saturday. He was 92.

While a cause of death was not disclosed, the South African government confirmed Fugard’s death and said South Africa “has lost one of its greatest literary and theatrical icons, whose work shaped the cultural and social landscape of our nation,” according to AP.

Fugard brought critical, wrenching portrayals of South African society under apartheid to international stages, including Broadway, helping to generate the wave of worldwide criticism that eventually led to the end of that policy in the country, in the process gaining wider access for South African dramaturgy outside that nation. He was also an actor and director, and a number of his works were adapted into films.

He developed a lifelong passion for sci-fi franchises like Star Trek and Transformers, two series that he was instrumental in reshaping.

Commissioners and producers tell us the show makes a statement, and they are now setting their sights on international sales.

In a key strategic move and following some of the smart TV money in these current times, New Regency has partnered with Bravado Equity to drive into Europe, making its first European series acquisition “Beyond” (aka “Oderbruch”), one of the standout recent TV hits in Europe.

New Regency will launch “Beyond” at the London TV Screenings, its market debut taking place for invited guests on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25.

In industry terms, prestige drama “Beyond” ticks many of the boxes for series which can be made with high production values while tapping into Europe’s rich financing ecosystem.

The second series in a first-look TV deal between CBS Studios and Berlin-based Syrreal Entertainment, “Beyond” is also produced by Ard Degeto, the film production arm of Germany’s Ard, Europe’s biggest public broadcaster which is moving into ever more ambitious series such as 2024 Canneseries winner “The Zweiflers” and indeed “Beyond.”

Actor Harrison Ford has been pretty picky about his roles over the years, carefully choosing roles that suit his cocky charm, but he hasn't always made perfect choices. An t-Eilean, or: The Island. That is the title of a prestige crime drama set on the Western Isles of Scotland that was launched by the BBC on Tuesday evening on its BBC iPlayer streaming service and BBC Alba, the Scottish Gaelic-language free-to-air channel that the U.K. public service broadcaster co-owns with Mg Alba. Alba is the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland. And An t-Eilean is, according to the networks, the U.K.’s “first-ever high-end Gaelic drama series.”

That also makes it the biggest Gaelic drama in BBC Alba’s history and, according to The Guardian, the most expensive series ever made in Scots Gaelic with a budget of a £1 million ($1.2 million) per episode.

Back in July, Djimon Hounsou signed on to star in a shark thriller called Beneath the Storm alongside Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), with Tommy Wirkola (Violent Night) writing and directing for Sony Pictures and producers Adam McKay and Kevin Messick of HyperObject Industries. While we wait to hear more information about that project, Hounsou is already moving on to another interesting film, one called The Monster. Deadline reports that Darren Lynn Bousman will be directing the film from a screenplay by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, the writers of Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane.

Uglies is a sci-fi drama film directed by McG from a screenplay co-written by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson. Based on the 2005 dystopian novel of the same name by author Scott Westerfeld, the Netflix film is set in a world with enforced beauty standards and it follows the story of Tally Youngblood, who has been waiting for her beauty surgery but when one of her friend goes missing, she goes on an adventure which helps her learn about herself and the world she is living in. Johnny Bananas called out previous cast complaints about living conditions during MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

With Season 40, Bananas is on his 22nd season of the competition show, so he’s experienced various living conditions.

Among his rougher experiences on the show may have been MTV’s The Island and Total Madness seasons, both of which he won.

For his latest season, he’s one of 40 cast members competing for a $1 million prize, which involves not only daily challenges, eliminations, and the final but also coexisting with his 39 castmates.

Battle of the Eras was filmed in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and The Challenge house, which seemed like a castle, appeared in the Launch Special and premiere episode.

However, before any episodes aired, there were some mentions online or in interviews about disliking the conditions or treatment by production during filming.

The feature directorial debut of “Jersey Shore” alum Jenni “Jwoww” Farley, the found footage horror movie Devon has been acquired by Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting.

The news was first reported by Variety this afternoon.

Devon will premiere on Screambox on November 11, 2024.

In the film, “When a group of friends try to uncover the truth behind an unsolved disappearance, they unwittingly find themselves at the center of a terrifying mystery.”
