Needs editing.

I can see what this film was intending to do. Unfortunately it just never quite completes the deal. The "reality crime" aspect works fine and the shots are all first rate. In fact quite a few of the scenes are incredibly evocative in a moody sort of way. Notably the silhouette of the detective talking to the beat up woman, the scene of the detectives going through the garbage, and the father tying flies. On occasion s few scenes bog down in too much dialog. Instead of showing the viewer the writer treats it too much like a book. But the real problem lies in the editing. The story does not flow. It fails to make a whole out of the sum of the parts. In the end you are confused as to what is actually happening. Those who like this sort of detective movie like to follow along, piecing together the puzzle at the same time the lead characters do. With such poor editing it is difficult if not nearly impossible to do this.

An Interesting True Tale

This is a plot driven tale of midwestern values applied to a horrible set of real crimes. I for one tire of not only the same bare Los Angeles topography in most films but of the big city f*** you attitudes that are increasingly taken as a societal norm. Well thank god most of the world isn't as messed up (yet) and communities of people often work together for a better good than getting the next Benz or getting into some dope club.

Ordinary Killer is like the good part of a funeral; acknowledging the tragic, but recognizing the love and caring that can arise from that same tragedy.

Good Effort

I recently watched this and to be honest I wasn't expecting much after reading a few reviews from another site. I have to admit though that although not a Hollywood caliber movie it was not bad. The acting was decent and the story was interesting, although I had never heard of this crime before. Also, my hat is off to Mr. Perry. I have read some of the comments on this site about him and really don't understand the viciousness of some of them. I don't know Mr. Perry, never met him or anyone associated with his company. But I can tell you that it appears he is doing what he loves to do, and that in itself is a win for him. Mr. Perry, misery loves company and from what I've read there are a lot of miserable people posting here that maybe are jealous that they don't have a career they love as you do. Keep on keeping on Mr. Perry and don't mind the "haters".

very well done

with this day and age of billion dollar budgets for film making i thought that with the budget AOK had it couldn't have been done any better in hollyweird. stayed true to the story, and it wasn't glamored up. i think it actually gives hope to the wrongly accused, victims and family's hope, and an example of how far technology has come. good job CDI ck

A well done and well thought out movie.

I live in Texas and I went to Owosso to review the movie because I am a fan of one of the actors who appeared in it. "An Oridnary Killer" was all that I had expected it to be and then some. The storyline was a sad one but, was ever so well done. There are a few veteran actors as well as a few newcomers. They all gave fantasitc performances. It could not have been an easy script for the writer to have written at all but was well done. I do recommend the movie for those who like details... and mystery...

Fantastic!

I was also at the premiere in Owosso, MI this past weekend for the show on Saturday evening. This movie kept me wondering throughout the whole time as to who was the murderer. I liked it so much that I went back for the Sunday afternoon showing. The actors were fantastic and very convincing (ie:Dan Haggerty, DJ Perry, Terrence Knox, Terry Jernigan, Dennis Haskins, & Charles Matthau). Thumbs up to Tony Hornus!

Not bad

Saw the movie yesterday at the premier in Owosso, Michigan. Not a bad movie - kind of long. Beautiful photography and music. The actors were professional and polished. Story topic is very sad but true. Was a great experience to attend the premier.

Very Positive

I thought that the movie was an excellent experience. It reached me on many levels, as both a parent and a local from Lansing. It was very well done and had touches that made it seem more professional than most box office hits I've seen. "An Ordinary Killer" was also presented in an extremely compassionate manner. You felt the pain of the town and of her parents. Hooray for Anthony Hornus for highlighting such an extraodinary event as a murder being solved 28 years after the fact. I will also give the cast and crew an old fashioned Army "Hooah" for a job well done.

So surreal!

I was at the world premiere in Owosso and was thrilled with it. Now that I have viewed the official release, I have found it to be truly excellent. The performance given by the entire cast. It was truly on the mark and very warming. Each actor and actress portrayed their characters very strongly. I believe that the DVD was better than the premiere. I was happy at that time, now I am thrilled. I want to spit out a spoiler but I won't. I will leave that to someone else. To Tony Hornus I say, "Job well done. You wrote it well. As well as directing it well." To the cast I say, "Way to go. You guys took a true story to the limits." I hope you all get to go to the Oscar's with this one. And if not the Oscar's... maybe the Emmy's when it gets seen on the tube.

I still get chills when I think about it!

I was fortunate to see An Ordinary Killer on it's premiere night! This movie was so well written, produced and portrayed withso many details to take in, I went back to see it for a 2nd time!

I was highly impressed w/ the quality of this film, from the great cast of characters and moving/chilling storyline to the captivating narration and filming. It seems as though, every detail was thought of from hair and make-up (especially impressed with the age progressions of the characters),to the scenes and wardrobe. It puts you right there...and it's real! I still get chills when I think about it!

If you enjoy movies based on true stories and full of intrigue, drama and a touch of humor with twists and turns that keep you guessing as to who did it...then this one is for you!
