Best Wishes Mason Chadwick

An intelligent, well-plotted piece of work that raises intriguing questions about what makes a story, how best to tell it and whether, ultimately, it's the teller or the tale that matters most. There are enough twists, smart dialogue, funny scenes/moments and slashes of weird humor to keep the viewer interested and pulled along. Ultimately, I guess, this is a black comedy...or a funny drama...or something. Whatever it is (and it's tough to categorize), it's a gem of a picture. Worth renting or sticking with if you happen to come across it on television.

Mason Chadwick (Nichols) is a successful first–time author who has two problems: he suffers from a serious case of writer's block as he struggles to start his second book, and someone is leaving him nasty, threatening messages. He escapes the city to a remote ocean-front cabin in an effort to clear his mind and restart his writing and soon encounters a lovely, mysterious woman (Harris) who goes for a naked swim off his beach. She re-energises Mason and he fixates on her; however, when the muse returns for another visit, things quickly get kinky as she gets him naked, then whips and eventually ties him to the bed. Is she the one who has been threatening Mason, and what is the reason for her actions?

What follows is amusing, disturbing, and ultimately revealing as the truth behind the character's motives is made apparent. Filmed in British Columbia.

I just watched this movie last night on free tv. For the most part, it wasn't bad, but the real standout was Laura Harris, who played Max. Being Canadian, there are certain actors that you can't help but see in our own homegrown product. Laura has been in several productions that I have seen over the years and her acting has come a long way. She is also quite a strikingly beautiful young lady. Keep an eye out for her.

Although essentially a dark little movie that plods along at a rate slightly slower than it COULD be, Laura Harris rescues this movie from a slow and agonizing death.

Set in an ocean front cabin, the meat of this movie happens when all other characters are stripped away, and our two leads are left to their devices. The subtly seductive May (Laura Harris) gives a voyeuristic peek at her intentions, a little at a time, as a writers block afflicted Mason Chadwick (Taylor Nichols)slowly falls victim to his own ambitions. The introduction of two police officers is an attempt at some comedic relief, however they are cast so young, I was left wondering if these officers was part of a larger prank... are the REAL officers going to arrive and tell their stoner kids to stop wearing those uniforms, and go home??

Slightly comedic at times, harrowing at others, and generally slow; I found myself anticipating every scene, in the hopes that Ms. Harris would return and justify my spending two hours with this movie.

I WOULD qualify this as a little gem, appropriate for waking up on the couch, and finding it on at 3 in the morning.
