Snow White Live

I first saw Snow White Live as a little girl, watching off the Disney Channel during the "old school" days of Disney. I absolutely fell in love with it. My father recorded it off TV so I could watch it over and over again. Thank god I didn't wear it out because I am almost 21 years old and I still own that same tape. I think it is a perfect telling of the original Disney classic that came to life on the Broadway stage. I loved this presentation of it and would rather watch this than the cartoon! Mary Jo Salerno is amazing. Her voice is absolutely stunning and she is beautiful and enchanting as the innocent and wide eyed Snow White who dreams of her Prince, played handsomely by Richard Bowne. They have a lovely chemistry together, even though they are only in two scenes together. Anne Francine is wonderful as the Wicked Queen and Charles Hall is brilliant as the Witch(he gave me nightmares as a child because of his portrayal, but watching it today he is incredible to watch and he is one of my favorite parts to watch now!!). The Seven Dwarfs are all hilarious, esp. Dopey!! They all have a great comedic presence and worked wonderfully together. Favorite scenes are definitely the Wishing scene(when Snow White first meets the Prince), any scene with the Dopey!!, the transformation of the Queen to the Witch(BRILLIANT!!), the chase scene(another brilliant staging!) and the wedding finale, which just ends the show on a happy level. I can't tell you enough how much joy this show has been for me all this years. The staging, costumes, set, music, cast, everything about this is SO great!!! I love it more and more every time I watch it.It is a great time to sit back and watch a wonderful, cute, fun night of theater. It is def. something I hope to share with my future daughter for her to experience and enjoy just as much as me! If you have the opportunity to find this great show(heard it is pretty impossible to find nowadays..)take the chance because it is AMAZING!!!

I too prefer live theater, especially musicals, over recorded movies. I recorded this play off the TV YEARS ago when my children were small. I have been transferring old tapes to DVD ever since I got a DVD recorder 3 years ago for Christmas, in my spare time. I love reminiscing over the old TV shows and movies I had forgotten about from days gone by.

I wish Disney had produced more shows like this for television, as it is a dying art. I am glad I have been able to preserve this rare production for future generations in our family to enjoy.

As the other reviewers have stated, if you can get your hands on a copy of this production, don't hesitate to watch it again & again!

I was 10 years old the first time I saw this production, and it is one of my favorite childhood memories! It was recorded from several live stage performances, for HBO, and I am SO GLAD THEY DID!!!

SNOW WHITE LIVE is, for the most part, a stage performance of the original 1937 Disney classic. But it takes us to places that the animated film didn't go. With two new songs, written by Joe Cook and Jay Blackton, and added characters, SNOW WHITE LIVE fleshes out the familiar tale.

Mary Jo Salerno (A Modern Affair (1996)) has the task of turning the world's original animated heroine into a flesh and blood princess. With a pleasant singing voice and a energetic stage presence, Ms. Salerno manages to give Snow White a pleasant and sweet quality, without sending the audience into a sugar overdose. Her rendition of "Someday My Prince Will Come", still gives me goosebumps! She was the right actress for the job!

Richard Bowne has the thankless job of being Snow White's "One True Love".....Prince Charming. In the live performance, he is given one of the two new songs in the show, "Will I Ever See Her Again", which is cut from the HBO and video productions. A very "charming" song, we can only assume that it was left on the cutting room floor (along with the Seven Dwarf's song "Buddle-Uddle-Um-Dum" aka, "The Washing Song") simply for timing reasons......a rather sad mistake. For the audience's sake, I home it is put back in if the show is ever re-released.

Anne Francine ('Crocodile' Dundee (1986)) is nasty as the Wicked Queen. Her performance is over the top, and a bit campy, very much like that of the British pantomime productions. A bit old for the role, yet still effective, she gives the audience a "witch" they can truly hate!

With a wonderful opening number, and a splashy wedding finale, I HIGHLY recommend locating a copy of this video. It is a rare treat that shouldn't be missed!
