A cage match was planned between Kane (Glenn Jacobs) and X-Pac (Sean Waltman). It was to be the culmination of their established rivalry. But Kane injured his hand weeks before the event. The match was changed to a tag team match with Kane partnering with Rikishi (Solofa Fatu Jr.) and X-Pac partnering with Road Dogg (Brian James), with Kane and Rikishi winning. The first WrestleMania appearances for Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, the Dudley Boys (Bubba Ray (Mark LoMonaco) and D-Von (Devon Hughes)), Tazz and Funaki.
Chris Jericho on his podcast recently revealed that he was originally planned to be in the fatal four way main event and early promotional posters (including in press kits) had his face on it foreshadowing his involvement. However, this would be change as Vince ultimately felt he was not ready for a WM main event yet and World title run. He later would go on to achieve both.
