Veteran Marathi and Bollywood films, television and theatre actor Ashok Saraf will be conferred with the coveted ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ Award-2023, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said here on Tuesday.

Saraf, 76, has been selected for his substantial contribution to the field of arts. He has straddled from comedy to serious to villainous roles through his acting and won the hearts of the audiences.

Saraf started his acting career in 1969 with the Marathi film ‘Janaka’. Since then, he has worked in over 250 Marathi films, mostly in comic roles, besides acting in more than 50 Bollywood movies and 10 television serials, along with a dozen theatre productions. He has teamed with up actors like Laxmikant Berde and Sachin Pilgaonkar in different films.

Some of the prominent Bollywood films in which Saraf could be seen include ‘Damaad’, ‘Pratighat’, ‘Benaam Badshah’, ‘Aa Gale Lag Ja’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Army’, ‘Koyla’, ‘Gupt’, ‘Yes Boss’, ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya’, ‘Khubsoorat’, ‘Joru Ka Gulam’, ‘Jodi No.

Mumbai, March 24 (Ians) Veteran actor and director Rakesh Roshan reveals how his son and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan entered the entertainment industry and decided to work with his father for understanding the craft and knowing the struggle of an actor to establish himself.

He said: “When Hrithik was in college, he had two options: either he pursues further studies overseas or he assists me in making movies. The decision was left entirely up to him, and he ultimately chose to work as my assistant in movies.”

“My intention was for him to experience the same hardships that I faced during my own struggling days and learn from it,” added the 73-year-old actor. Rakesh, who appeared in films such as ‘Khubsoorat’, ‘Khatta Meetha’, and many more is known for his directorial projects including ‘Khudgarz’, ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ among others, graced the singing reality show ‘Indian Idol 13’ as a celebrity guest.

Veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who built up curiosity on his upcoming project with acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur, says that though technical advancement has made it easier for the new generation to make films like "Mr. India" it cannot guarantee a movie's success.

Kapur on Friday, posted a candid photograph on social media of their meeting and wrote: "Discussing the look for the next 'Mr India 2', or another movie together? You tell them Anil."

Mumbai, March 30: Actress Sonam Kapoor, who has again teamed up with her actor-father Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea in "Khoobsurat" after "Aisha", says it's not easy to work with family members.

"It's more difficult to work with your family because they have high expectations from you... You have to be on your best behaviour, you need to be on time, remember all your lines....

"We had Kirron Kher, Ratna Pathak in the film, so it was amazing. I had a great time," Sonam told Ians.

She says that since she and the makers of the new film are huge fans of late director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who helmed the classic, they decided to club names of "Mili" and "Khubsoorat" in the remake.

"Saawariya" released Nov 9, 2007 and Sonam took to Twitter to express her gratitude for the love which has been bestowed upon her all these years.

Mumbai, July 12: Actress Sonam Kapoor, who will be seen in the remake of "Khubsoorat", says it's a contemporary film and the story does not ape the 1980 hit movie.

The original "Khubsoorat" had Rekha in the lead role of a happy-go-lucky girl and she was joined by the likes of Ashok Kumar, Dina Pathak and Rakesh Roshan in the cast.

"Honestly, the script of 'Khubsoorat' is extremely contemporary. There's nothing about it that resembles the Hrishikesh Mukherjee film," said Sonam while talking about the film's setting.

"We had the rights to the film and we took the character, spirit of the character and have put her in.

Mumbai, May 6: Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, who will step into the shoes of Rekha to play a chirpy carefree young girl in the "Khubsoorat" remake, says she is completely in awe of the "Umrao Jaan" actress.

"I am completely obsessed with Rekha. I love her dramatic eyes and red lips," she told reporters here Monday.

Mumbai, April 28: The camera will start rolling for "Khubsoorat" during monsoon and its lead actress Sonam Kapoor says the story has been completely changed while retaining the spirit of the characters.

"I will start shooting this August," she told Ians.

The Hrishikesh Mukerjee-directed 1980 family drama, which won the Filmfare award for the best film, was about a young fun loving girl who falls in love with a doctor, played by Rakesh Roshan. Mumbai, March 20: Actress Sonam Kapoor, who reprises the role that Rekha played in the 1980 family comedy "Khubsoorat" in its remake, says she sought the blessings of the veteran stunner before beginning to shoot for it.

New Delhi, Dec 21: Actress Sonam Kapoor has been roped in to play the female lead in the remake of the 1980 hit "Khubsoorat". Before starting the shoot, the young actress reportedly wants to take tips from Rekha who played a chirpy and fun-loving girl in the original.

TORONTO -- Bollywood screen star Dina Pathak (A Passage to India) died Friday after a long illness. She was 82. Deepa Mehta, the Canadian filmmaker in whose latest film, Bollywood/Hollywood, Pathak starred as a feisty grandmother, said her passing would be felt throughout Bollywood. "She was a consummate actor and wonderful person. It's such a loss not only to the film industry, but also to all the people who came in contact with her and fell in love with her, including me," Mehta said Monday. Pathak performed in more than 200 films, including Gol Maal, Khubsoorat and A Passage to India. Bollywood/Hollywood, her last film, was shot in Toronto in the fall of 2001.
