The Dover Road Mystery

The brand new family saloon of a businessman is stolen and used on a raid, a raid in which a have a go hero is shot dead.

I'm not sure there's a huge amount to say about this episode, I didn't perhaps enjoy it as much as previous ones, simply because there was nothing really unique, or imaginative about it.

Definitely a procedural, but very formulaic, some of the characters were quite nice, and the solution was pretty well arrived at. Some nice performances, I thought Leonard Sachs and Cyril Chamberlain's were both pretty good.

Seeing The Police using that (presumably blue) Police Box, I almost wanted William Hartnell to jump out of it, and take over the proceedings.

Watching mainly for the visuals, the actual case itself, was a little underwhelming.

For some reason i have always remembered the name of this thriller in the "Scotland Yard" series.My notes show that i saw this at the ABC Golders Green on January3rd 1961 in a double bill wit The Miracle.I didn't think much of The miracle but found this to be a competent thriller.I sat in the circle for which i paid the grand sum of 4/-(20p).I have to say that if they used the real Dover Road it has changed a lot since then No longer a 2 lane winding road it is a 6 lane motorway.Geoffrey Keen plays the Chief Inspector prior to his fame in TV drama series.Leonard Sachs is featured better remembered as the Chairman in the Gold Old Days.The plot is nothing to write home about,mainly about a murder arising from a bank raid.Incidentally the exterior of the Paris Pullman Cinema is featured.

An ordinary family car is stolen and later used in a bank robbery. An innocent passerby is shot dead.

Superintendent Graham is in charge of the case and has few clues to go on. The car managed to evade a police chase.

A few weeks later the car is on sale at a second hand garage with the number plates changed. The dealer who has a criminal record is later found dead.

The police discover that the car was souped up for speed.

A good but routine Scotland Yard thriller. You can even see a police box being used to phone the police.

The ending was a bit rushed but if you are eagle eyed you can spot a few of baddies during the course of Superintendent Graham's investigations.
