Waiting for Godot

Yes it was a very good production, I have experienced "Godot" numerous times in my life before and after the performance by Ralph Waite & Dana Elcar. it was Filmed out in the Desert in conjunction with KCET the Local PBS Station for L.A. if anyone has a copy to sell, It will probably will be through them. the piece was originally worked out as a staged version done at Mr. Waite's Los Angeles Actors Theater, And yes it was In a very seedy area of Hollywood, as admission was free to all performances, the resulting audiences were a curious mix of regular LA theater goers, prostitutes, drug addicts, and ever small children from the neighborhood whom attended the show many times, the point being that attending a performance us truly a unique experience, and the KCET version really did capture a good deal of that, like a junkie, I have sought out performances of Godot up and down the west coast and haven't seen anything quite so remarkable. Thank you Ralph.

Does anyone else remember this TV adaption of Samuel Beckett's famous existentialist work? This version of "Waiting for Godot" was my introduction to this challenging play and I remember it as excellent. My twin brother and I (sixteen at the time) came across it accidentally and got drawn into the story - or the lack of story, if you know what I mean. It was like nothing either of us had ever seen. It was repeated on New York City's PBS station within the week, which gave us a chance to see it from the beginning. (We actually had the foresight to tape it on audio tape, VCRs not being around yet, but I'm afraid those tapes wore out and are long gone.) Since then, however, it seems to have vanished down the memory hole. Does anyone know if it available on video or DVD anywhere? I would love to see if it still seemed as good to me after all this time. The only actor I remember in it was Ralph Waite as Pozzo and he did an excellent job. PBS is notoriously lousy at getting around to making their older works available, but "The Good Doctor" and "Steambath" are finally out, so I'm holding out hope that "Waiting for Godot" might join them.

This was an excellent version of the play. Waites was probably

trying to break away from the John Walton role into more serious

ones. This was a good move. I never taped it either, so this is

purely from memory but I saw it at least twice and a lot is still vivid.

It was accompanied by a short documentary on Waite's Los

Angeles Actors Theater on Santa Monica Boulevard and Western,

a very seedy area at the time. The documentary talks about a

harrowing production Miguel Pinero's "Midnight Moon at the

Greasy Spoon." I would love to see it again. I'm hoping the Museum of Television &

Radio will come up with a tape.
