Pacala is an important hero in Romanian popular tradition. He is smart and always makes fun of everything ridiculous about people like stupidity, greed, vanity. Sometimes these people's treats are putting Pacala in all sorts of dangerous situations, but being in connection with the nature, with joy, love for the life and the whole world, he finds ways to prevail. Besides the jokes, the movie manages to express a certain mindset of easiness and free spirit. Filmed in a very beautiful part of Romania in 1974, the movie had an important success at that time and is considered one of the most loved movies in Romania ever.

Like the hero, found in many folk stories and jokes, the movie forwards the spirit of happiness, freedom and pure connection with the nature, forgetting about times and governments.

I have seen this film as a child. It seemed funny. Nowadays I saw it again and I honestly can say that this movie is so bad that it should be banned. The only positive thing in this film is the scenery. The acting and the scenario are so poor, that I cannot understand how anyone could have produce them. The movie deals with a well known Romanian folk-hero, Pacala, a sly country boy, which resolves every problem in an unexpected way. The written stories of this hero are very funny and very qualitative. The movie fell far away from the origins.
