Chamayam

This is a Malayalam language film starring Murali and Manoj Jayan. This film belongs to an era where a strong script and performances - and not superstars - were sufficient to make a Malayalam film profitable. And Malayalam cinema has never been short of actors sharpened in the anvil of theater. You can see it in the quality of the performances of the likes of Murali and Thilakan who could carry a film on their shoulders.

The film is above about a theater proprietor cum director Esthappan who also plays a key role in his play. He doesn't compromise on the characteristics needed from the lead actor and that leads him to discover Anto (Manoj Jayan). How Esthappan hones Anto's talent in the midst of odds is the crux of the film.

The film is interspersed with good music and elements of romance, action and a good climax. This is one of Manoj Jayan's memorable films along with Sargam and Sallapam.
