Wow! This had to be one of the most fun b-movies that I've seen in a while. Terrible acting between completely dysfunctional characters, super cheesy special effects, boom mike shots, and a final showdown with what looked like re-used footage from Krull. The soundtrack did not match with the actors mouths in MANY places making it even more hilarious when they delivered the horrible lines in the script. It had it all though, from the excessive use of slow motion, a man having his genitals ripped off by a rubber tentacle, to a toy car sinking in the mud where a real car had been. This is a must rent for a bad movie night or if you are like me and enjoy movies made with my weekend beer budget. Two thumbs up for this one.
Brett Piper's "Drainiac" harkens back to horror's modern heyday in the mid 80s, and takes that retro groove on a tongue-in-cheek roller coaster ride through a haunted house opus. Lots of fun, solid FX work from Piper as always, and good energy throughout. Suffers a bit in post-production looping, but it's a coin toss whether Georgia Hatzis' bath or Leslie Culton's skull-faced boogie is better. Very solid independent outing.
Well I've been suffering from insomnia for the last couple of months but after watching this film on DVD I have found a cure. Like I said its not the worst film I've ever seen but it is extremely dull and I found my mind drifting off before I nodded off. The story involves a bunch of kids a haunted house with some gooey green stuff and thats about all I can remember of it. Maybe the film would benefit a little from some decent editing as certain scenes where nothing interesting happened seemed to go for too long but then again it is such a short film without cutting it, it would probably come in at under an hour that way. So if you have to watch every cheap horror film it might be worth a look otherwise save your time and cash.
My 9 year old brother picked this movie up from Hollywood Video today, and we watched it together (No, I wouldn't recommend this movie for most 9 year olds, but my little brother is...different). If you rent this movie, you need to know what to expect. This was a low-budget film. It's not going to have the kind of special effects you see in theatres. If you can't dig a good independent film, don't bother renting this.
The storyline was cute...and so were the actresses, I mean WOW! The lead actress found a new reason to take her clothes off like every five minutes, and this guy had his genitals mutilated by a toilet (he had it coming though). Good stuff man.

I've decided that any film whose title is effectively a pun really is not going to live up to much. 'Drainiac!' is one hell of a low-budget horror film which tries its best to add some humour into the bargain. It's fair to say that it succeeds and fails in everything it tries to do.
A house is possessed and the teenagers who are trying to clean it fall foul of the entity lurking in the building's pipes. It may have a low budget, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the script has to be bad. However, here's it's pretty amateur at best. Sometimes the dialogue really grates as some words are used again and again. Plus the characters are pretty one dimensional. You'll know whether someone is going to make it or not simply because they're completely unlikable from the moment they appear on screen.
Although, props to the film-makers when it came special effects. There's some computer work done here and there (which is a bit ropey), but the majority is actually in the form of the lost art of 'stop motion' and it's actually quite inventive and makes the most out of the limited budget.
I think I laughed about once at some lines which were supposed to be humorous, but quite often the laughs fell foul. Plus the kids seemed to be quite casual about the situation they found themselves in, laughing and joking almost right up until the end. There's some nudity thrown in there, too. It's pretty unnecessary in terms of the plot, but I'm guessing the scene will certainly appeal to some people.
Overall, the film's okay. I may be dwelling on the negatives, but I could have turned it off at any point and I didn't. That's more than I can say for a fair few horror films I've had the misfortune to stumble on via streaming services. Can't think of anything to particularly recommend this one for, but it's not as terrible as it could have been. I guess the title still amuses me.
