A political prisoner, Andrei, is sentenced to death. On the way to the place of execution, he is helped to escape. He takes refuge in an abandoned brick factory, whose "owner" is Mihai Plesa, also called "Pistruiatul", a 13-year-old boy who at first does not know what kind of man the escapee is. Because the policemen behave badly with him, Mihai does not offer them help and instead decides to help the escapee.

Mihai learns from his father that the escapee is not a villain. Then he learns from the escape that his name is Andrei Bogdan. In the end, Mihai hides the escapee in the attic of their house.

Andrei entrusts Mihai with a delicate mission: he must bring him a special violin. Mihai takes the violin from the liaison and escapes from a policeman who is chasing him. But on the way home a neighbor confiscates the violin because of a broken window. With the help of his friend, the dog Calu, Mihai manages to recover the violin and bring it to Andrei.

Mihai is sent by Andrei to a certain house near the depot to find out if the place where he needs to move is available. But the police find out the addresses of the conspiratorial houses, among which is the one where Mihai has to go. Botta, appointed to supervise that house, suspects Mihai and arrests him. Posing as the commissioner's nephew, Mihai manages to trick the policeman again. Back home, he informs Andrei that the solution to the problem can be found in the Antique Market.

Mihai is sent to Mr. Ciobanu in the Flea Market. Mr. Ciobanu gives him a suitcase that he must take to Andrei. Searches are made all over the city by the police, but Mihai manages to escape them in an inventive way.

The history teacher informs Mihai that he has to meet Andrei. Mihai meets Andrei, who entrusts him with a new mission - picking up a special package from the company "La Berindei". Air raids make normal pedestrian movement through the city impossible. However, Mihai has to get to the post office to hand over the package.

Mr. Plesa opens the package he received, it contains a mini-typography. Mr. Plesa starts printing communist manifestos in the basement of his house. Mihai wants to help his father by carrying the manifestos in his school bag.

In order to take revenge on Mihai for an incident in the Flea Market, a traveling salesman steals his schoolbag. To recover his schoolbag, Mihai calls a policeman that arrests the vendor for distributing communist manifestos. Mihai recovers his schoolbag and gets rid of the manifestos by distributing them in the city from the balcony of a building.

While he is in the police headquarters, Mihai learns that someone informs them about an upcoming arms delivery. Iulia tells Mihai that there must be a diversion in the city. Mihai creates the diversion and the weapons are delivered.

The liberation day is coming and Mihai helps the people from the brick factory to fight against the Germans.
