- Wayne Stein: [trying to tutor Angela in history] Well... you listen to music?
- Angela: Yeah.
- Wayne Stein: You sing along, right?
- Angela: [hardly paying attention] Sure.
- Wayne Stein: Well, you remember the words, right?
- Angela: That's different.
- Wayne Stein: No! No, no, it's not different. You can learn new lyrics, like, for D-Day.
- [Wayne starts singing improvised lyrics to 'That'll be the Day']
- Wayne Stein: Battle of D-Day, the Second World War. Battle of D-Day, nineteen forty-four. Battle of D-Day, I'll say it once more. When Eisenhower led the troops to Normandy's shore.
- [Angela smiles, impressed]
- Mr. Tatum: [about Angela's death] Look on the bright side. At least you checked out the pretty dress. I had a heart attack at a Halloween party.
- Angela: You dope! I led her right into your lap and you dropped her! What are you waiting for? Do you want to be dead for the rest of your life? I'm the one who got killed! But you didn't die, Wayne. You just gave up.
- [Wayne continues playing his saxophone]
- Angela: Take that thing out of your mouth!
- [Angela pulls on one of the keys of Wayne's saxophone]
- Wayne Stein: Damn...
- Angela: That's right. You can't concentrate, can you? You know why? You're thinking of HER!
- [Wayne starts to look at his reflection in the glass window]
- Angela: And you SHOULD be! I can see what you're feeling. You had that same glow in your eyes when you used to look at me. Use it. It's time, Wayne. Let go of the past. You've GOT to be able to hear me!
- [Angela's voice grows passionate, as Wayne stares at his reflection with a look of pain]
- Angela: Of course you can. Grab her. And kiss her. And don't be afraid of what anyone thinks. They're not there, Wayne. There's no one on Earth except you and...
- Wayne Stein: Judith...
- Angela: [teaching Wayne to dance] So you'll come to the prom?
- Wayne Stein: [scoffs] I'll see if Ann-Margret is free.
- Angela: I'm not joking!
- Wayne Stein: Angela, come on! There's not a girl in school who'd go out with me on a bet. I mean, look at me.
- Angela: Look, Wayne. If you see a girl you want, grab her and kiss her, and don't be afraid of what anyone thinks. They're not there, Wayne. There's no one on Earth except you and that girl.
- Wayne Stein: Well...
- Angela: [shakes her head] No, Wayne. There's no one on Earth.
- [Wayne suddenly leans in and kisses Angela]
- Wayne Stein: I-I'm sorry... I just don't...
- Angela: Do that again.
- [he kisses her again]
- Cindy: What do you want from me? What do I have to do get rid of you?
- Angela: [kneels beside Cindy] Help me find out what my mission is.
- Cindy: And then what?
- Angela: I turn in my homework, kiss Limbo goodbye, catch the staircase to heaven, and party all night with James Dean!
- [Angela stretches out on Cindy's bed with a dreamy look]
- [Angela is trying to teach Cindy to walk 'cool']
- Angela: Come on, move, move! Dare anybody to think you're uncool!
- [Cindy and Angela hear a wolf-whistle]
- Angela: What did I tell you?
- [Cindy turns to see a parrot just outside a pet store]
- Lucille the Parrot: [wolf whistling again] Hey babe!
- Cindy: Terrific! A BIRD thinks I'm cool!
- Angela: Well, it's a start.
- [Angela's thrown a spitball at Wayne]
- Wayne Stein: [looking around angrily, and then at Cindy] Who was that? You?
- Cindy: N-no... I...
- Angela: Oh, my God!
- Wayne Stein: [to Cindy] Speak up!
- Angela: I don't believe it, that's him!
- Cindy: Who?
- Angela: The boy that I left at the prom!
- Wayne Stein: [to Cindy] You!
- Cindy: [to Angela] Flunkenstein?
- [all the students laugh]
- Wayne Stein: [furious] Out of the classroom.
- Cindy: But I...
- Wayne Stein: Out! You're suspended.
- Wayne Stein: Now, I might have been someone to push around when I was a student here, but I'm a teacher now. If your daughter expects to pass history, that will be respected. Good day, Mrs. Boyd!
- Angela: [about Cindy] All right. So I meddled a little.
- Mr. Tatum: You meddled a lot. You solved one problem and started another.
- Angela: For your information, Cindy is having the time of her life with the boy of her dreams, as we speak!
- Mr. Tatum: [snarls] You haven't learned ANYTHING, have you?
- Angela: What IS this, a quiz? Cindy's got what she wanted!
- Mr. Tatum: You led her down the same stupid path as you got stuck on in high school, and look what became of you!
- Angela: [getting scared] ... what? You mean, Cindy's in danger?
- Mr. Tatum: You both are.
- Judith: [about his music] You know, you're real good, Wayne. You could have been a professional if you wanted to.
- Wayne Stein: I did want to.
- Judith: Well, what stopped you, wayne?
- Wayne Stein: ...life.
