Another one of the good shows that didn't make it.
GOOD & EVIL was a hillarious spoof-show of soap-operas and was basically about a good sister, a scientist, and her evil sister, a femme fatale-wannabe, fighting each other.
The good sister has a scientist friend, who has a crush on her, who happens to be blind (and keeps knocking stuff over) and a daughter who doesn't want to talk.
And to make thing sillier the evil sister has an ex-husband (played by South African "gods must be crazy" actor Marius Weyers) chasing her whom she pushed off Mount Everest and has been frozen for two years in the Himalayas.
Meanwhile their mother is having a new lover over who is obviously after her money and somewhere their mother's evil twin comes in.
Fun if you can catch it somewhere...

Very funny show---great cast----unfortunately prematurely canceled when some unduly sensitive people were offended. If it ever shows itself, see rich performances by Teri Garr, Mark Blankfield and Seth Green! If this show had premiered today, it would have stood well against comedies such as ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. I believe Mark Blankfield's character's "visually challenged" antics would have met with contempt or "outrage"if viewed today. He simply, and comically, waves his blindness cane about with some hilarious consequences. In the same era, another extremely well cast comedy, "THE POWERS THAT BE", succumbed to studio neglect, placement of show with immense promise on a Saturday night schedule. If it is ever rerun, catch a suicidal, obsessive-compulsive congressman played by the great David Hyde Pierce.
This series only ran for about six episodes if I remember correctly, but it was too far ahead of its time to be popular in 1991. Irreverent, zany, madcap, and hilarious, I imagined this series would last a lot longer than it did.
Teri Garr did an excellent job as the star, and Lane Davies (having recently been one of the popular members of the Days of Our Lives cast before starring in G&E) did a great job as well. With a talented supporting cast, this series should've had a much bigger following.
Lane Davies played a doctor experimenting with different potions, sometimes having a Jekyll & Hyde effect on him, and Teri Garr played the perfect love interest.
If you ever have the opportunity to watch this show, it deserves a second look.

I actually attended a taping of this new show before it ever aired. The audience received it well and I too was surprised when it was canceled. I think it had to do with scheduling. Not many people saw it. On the west coast it aired after 10 pm on a weeknight. I remember thinking it was great because it was so much like "Soap." I was upset when "Soap" was canceled too. A show completely before it's time. I'll be so glad when the fad of reality TV comes to an end and we see more situation comedies with good wacky characters. I've grown tired of seeing who can get there first, lose the most weight, or survive the longest. Let's see another Lucy, Edith, Phoebe, or Jessica Tate! Wouldn't a "Soap" reunion be great!? I think TV networks are selling out! They're saving money on having less writers and probably paying the reality "stars" less money.
10preppy-3
If you liked "Soap" you'll like this. It's about a crazy family with evil sister Denise Sandler (Teri Garr) and good sister Charlotte. It just involved Denise trying to get everything her way and will do anything to get it. Naturally they have some very unusual family members and friends.
This aired for only a few months in 1991. In fact it was the first new show that was cancelled! I never figured out why. It was funny, racy (for 1991) and kept pushing the envelope every chance it got. Garr was just great in her role--she was clearly relishing every moment she was on screen. Also it had a blind character (played by Mark Blankfield) who accidentally destroys a laboratory completely while trying to help Charlotte. That came under attack by a group for blind people but it was repeated again a week or two later! I have to admit I was in hysterics both times I saw it. He also accidentally kisses another man on the lips--pretty risky for 1991.
It was WAY ahead of its time and was probably too much for 1991 audiences. I think it would be a hit today. Where's the DVD release? I give this a 10.
